My decision about the new policy situation

UPDATE :

As some of you may know, The Sims team has clarified and the early access is totally ok during a reasonable amount of time whithout specifying how long it should be. I will stick to the 3 weeks early access program like it've use to do.

I want to thank you again for you whole support during those last days, it helped me a lot. I am honestly happy this whole situation is over now, this was a lot for everyone and kinda ruin the community dynamic at the moment, so I hope things will get back to normal for everyone very soon ❤️

Hello everyone,

After more information (not official yet, but via screenshots of EA’s chat), apparently EA doesn’t allow early access anymore, not only permanent paywall. I’m more than sad to read this. My set always had been on early access respecting the rule of the 2-3 weeks before public release, and I was more than happy with this because people who can afford to support my work can access the set a little earlier, but people who can’t or who don’t want to support still can get it, and that is, in my eyes, a good solution for everyone. Now, due to permanent paywall creators, or business strategy or whatever, we’re not allowed to do this anymore.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this, and I decided this time to not follow the rules and keep early access for my content at the moment. If it is about protecting people from doxxing issues etc, I am more than happy that EA is finally making something about it, but I don’t get why everyone has to be punished for this. Especially when mod and cc helped a lot of people keep playing this game.

During my studies and now my job, as a 3D modeler who also made illustration and photography from time to time, I’ve seen and learned that creative jobs aren’t really respected and most people don't think it deserves to be paid, or not enough. When EA decides to cut the early access option, they don't respect our work, the time and the energy we put in it. Mods / cc will still be free at the end, so I don’t know where the problem is with this. Even as a passion and being part of the community, the amount of effort and sacrifices made each month to create large sets where we try our best to give you good content wouldn’t be the same without support.

I respect this community, I respect this game but I also respect my job and myself and I don’t think keeping early access is unfair. I know some of you will understand, I know some of you won’t. I’m totally fine with it, especially knowing that now I may be against the rules (until official announcement). I’m not mad at people who don't want early access anymore or anything, I’m just mad at people who abuses those conditions to lead to this situation. If some of you don’t want to support me anymore because of this, I also understand and there’s no problem about this at all.

I will never say this too much but I’m so thankful for all of your support, messages, comments, repost etc, I really love creating content for you guys.

Thank you for being there ❤️

Hi, thank you for your post and opening up. I love your content and I always waited until it's free but now I decided to support you here. Good work should be worth paying for because you invest a lot of time and mainly your own creative energy. Thank you for keeping up your amazing work in spite of restrictions. I'm sad for good and talented creators like you who have to suffer because of some people trying to make money from permanent paywalls. Oh and also thank you for updating your beds. I love the Calderone pack! Love from Germany, D.

Hi Pierisim! It looks like the EA TOU has been updated to SPECIFICALLY clarify that Early Access is, in fact, 100% okay! https://help.ea.com/en/help/the-sims/the-sims-4/mods-and-the-sims-4-game-updates/

I have been a Patreon of yours off and on for a while. But I do find it an incredible PITA to *have* to pay on Patreon to even be allowed to post on comments. Perhaps you could mention another method to reach you in your into area here? Anyhow, I'd be very, very surprised if or even how EA could enforce this new policy... especially IF content creators are creating their own 3d models and converting them to TS4. Legally (though I'm no lawyer), that model belongs to YOU. There are no rules about converting models to TS4. Therefore, if you charge money on Patreon for early access, that is your right. After all, those models are yours, not EAs. However, if someone were to use EAs models in part or in whole(cloning, for example) and then require payment, there things get a little closer to "not allowed" according to EA's rules. Just my opinion. Regardless of what you choose, I will remain a huge fan and supporter of your work!

Hello, first I didn't realise you cannot reach me here withiout being a Patreo, but that may be due to the website itself, For the second part things had be clarifyed fortunatly, but when you create packages apparently in the terms and conditions, what you make belongs to ea since you create a package

For those who do not understand why EA is doing this. The simple answer is IP laws. EA is probably the only company that has been lenient with creators monetizing their intellectual property (yes this means EA owns all cc) and since the whole doxing thing happened I guess they thought it was the best decision to enforce their IP laws. I personally hate that this is happening to early access creators that followed their 2-3 week rule, but I do see both sides. I don’t think it’s the best to go against their updated policy because it is risking a lot😭

YES! I think it is a good decision to keep up your paywall and have it publicly released in a couple of weeks. But like QueenWarrior4 said, having different paywalls to get their CC/ Mod is unfair. Felixandre has this method, and it is just not right. Either I pay more to get all his CC, or I pay less and only get the current month, which is unfair to the players. I love and appreciate all the hard work that you creators put into your content; it makes the game for me, like most players. I know how much work goes into it as a graphic design student. Every creator deserves paid for their hard work and content that is better than EA's.

I support whatever decision you make in this. Your content IS premium, always outstripping what EA can or will provide. This a level of talent that is owed compensation. Furthermore, I hate this sweeping "action" that EA is taking especially because it's no mystery who is violating EA's terms. Anyone who uses CC knows exactly which creators are to blame. EA needs to recognize the service that creators like yourself, are providing and then turn their sights to the guilty parties individually.

I've Decided to start supporting you after you made your decision To continue your early access I won't be getting really access because I can't afford that right now I don't need it you deserve to be supported for the fucking work you do all of you deserve it And it's bullshit that people I have put up permanent pay walls And now people like you are getting Screwed I think it's up to the community now to support the Creators We love who don't deserve this........ I'm a broke ass bitch but I will support as many as I can one or $2 a month isn't gonna break the bank

Please be careful I don’t want you to get in trouble. New clarification was posted on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/thesims/comments/wecj9v/eas_new_policy_on_custom_content_and_mods/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

It’s so inappropriate for EA, a corporation that hides every piece of content they can behind a paywall to do this to cc creators. Many don’t agree with permanent paywalls, but I think everyone agrees that without early access, there would be no custom content. Thank you for all that you do, we are so excited for you to keep doing it <3

gfvsims · August 2, 2022

Going forward, I'm planning to put a little bit of money aside and choose 2 or 3 of my favourite creators to donate to each month. It won't be much but I do still want to show my appreciation. You'll definitely be on my list. <3

I will still support you even though I don't get early access. Most of us contribute because we like the content anyway. Early access is nice, but it's not a game-changer for me.

It's content creators like you who actually followed the rules and made it accessible at a later point, why I'll continue to support you, even of you did remove early access. You are so talented and I love every one or your sets and I don't mind supporting certian creators who changed my game for the better

I can’t answer individually at the moment as other things are happening today in my real life (timing isn’t always good 😅) but I just wanted to let you know that I read all your comments and and the heart warming to know that I have your support in this situation. ❤️ I means a lot to me more than even and I’m so thankful for that. Thank you also for the new subscribers, but also for current ones, and former ones, and people who can’t financially support, it’s all the same for me and I love you all, your messages help me a lot ❤️

I don’t really understand why creators shouldn’t be able to have early access on their content. You guys put so much time and effort into it! The sims wouldn’t be the same without cc and mods. I will stay a supporter of yours no matter what!

Rebecca Shafranov · August 2, 2022

Absolutely the right the decision!! The fact that everything becomes available at some point for free is more than enough, I don’t understand why you can’t even keep one extra incentive for people to pay for your hard work. It makes no sense. I’m hoping there won’t be any consequences for “breaking” the rules and that you can continue as you want! Thank you for all the amazing content!

Just became a patron ❤️ I’ve used your CC for a long time and due to the recent decision have been wanting to support my favorite creators that have always followed the rules. We appreciated that so much. So well said and 100% respect your decision.

I will continue to support you and other modders. You all make the game more fun and, in a lot of cases, make it playable. EA should be paying you guys for the work you do, fixing their glitches and making beautiful custom items to replace their occaionally ugly content.

I’m so sorry that a few have ruined it for the many in regards to the perma-paywalling and in a way im glad they have finally done something about it but at the expense of legitimate creators like yourself who release their content after the early access period is such a same and a kick in the teeth for you guys who followed the previous rules!

M
Mia Homann · August 2, 2022

I totally agree with what you’ve said. It’s unfortunate that wonderful artists like you don’t get the respect from EA that you deserve. As you said, it’s unfortunate that a few bad apples have caused EA to have a knee jerk reaction. Hang in there 😘

em · August 2, 2022

you’re completely valid! i think it’s fucking ridiculous that early access creators are getting screwed over by ea when they’re doing nothing wrong. everyone gets the content, it’s just an incentive to support the amazing people that create wonderful cc! i’ve been a fan of yours for a while and while i can’t afford to support any other creators finically right now, if i’m able to soon i absolutely will!! i love your content so much and i am so happy you are still posting! if ea really wanted to help the permapaywalls, they’d go after the people doing them. i think we all know who those people are. regardless though we will always be here to support you ❤️
