Getting back to business!

Hey Patreon Gang!

It's a new year and like most new years we like to start off reflecting on the years past and how we want to improve this next time around the sun.

For me I want to focus more of my time on making comics. I released one new comic last year CRIMSON FALL: Lambs of God which is FREE for ALL PAID SUBS! I also put together my next artbook, Creations Vol 3 at the end of 2023. Not a bad production year for personal projects but I didn't draw as much comic stuff as I wanted. I wanted to finish CRIMSON FALL: The Shore Tower but failed to do that.

In 2024 my goal is to try and find more time for it. Even if it's only an hour a day, I am determined to find the time to chip away at my comic projects.

Above is my first cover for The Shore Tower. I might explore other options in the next month or two but I wanted to at least have one option finished. If I go with a different cover I can still use this one in the back of the book and for marketing purposes, so nothing is lost.

This morning I'm working on more interior art and will share more of that tomorrow with the Paid subs! So if you aren't signed up for a paid tier, now would be a great time!

Thanks for continuing to support me here on Patreon and I wish you all a successful and happy 2024!

-Derek

Thanks man! I'm excited to finally finish this one. It's been a long time in the making... too long!

Is your writing time wrapped into those blocks or are you just scripting on your phone on the go? Or do you have a dedicated sketchbook per book doing it all by hand? Looking forward to your updates in 24!

Hi Charlie, I do tend to write a lot on my phone/iPad. Most of this issue is already written and laid out. I have a digital sketch book (SUPER NOTE a5X) that I sketch in and do my rough layouts for the book. I tend to write a lot of the dialogue in Clip Studio. I will write an outline on my phone or ipad... then I'll sketch out the entire book in rough in the digital sketchbook. Drop all the pages into Clip Studio and get a broad stroke feel for the entire book. Then I'll throw in the dialogue over the roughs and be able to read the entire book through at that stage. I can then make edits and changes after that. Once that's more or less locked in I will then draw the pages and color them, tweaking dialogue as I go. A lot of revisions happen during that stage and I can get a little obsessive over the fine tuning. - Apologies for the long winded answer!
