My brother got top surgery three years ago and he says the most important thing is to have a reclining armchair to sleep in for a few weeks because you can't lay down fully during recovery. Also be prepared for the bandages to be wrapped EXTREMELY TIGHTLY after surgery, this is important to make sure your new chest is properly flat, but also if it's so tight you can't breathe make sure to tell the doctor so they can loosen it a little. Also do not live alone for recovery because you can't lift your arms for a few weeks. Those were the things he'd wished he'd known ahead of time. But now he's so happy, he says it was so, so so worth it, and he's very excited for you (and so am I)!

Yay! Top surgery was the BEST decision I made (One year since May!). The BEST advice I got was being a pillow for you to hold on to. Car rides SUCK. Get one of those squishy stuffed animals and just hug it for transportation. It’s a life saver!!
