Chapter 10 - Concept Art Preview
Hey all!
Three things in this post:
1. As you can see, next month we'll be seeing some big, bad orcs 😉 And their less handsome cousins too!
And I promise that's not the last time we see them as the bundle highlight! They are going to be the main enemy NPCs for at least a few chapters to come (customizer too, maybe? 🤔).
2. Unfortunately, due to the abundance of exams I need to pass right now at university, Chapter 10 miniatures and terrain will be published no sooner than mid-month. I will be showing some progress pics of course. The plan is to have:
Big orcs (species name suggestion please 😁)
Named fighter leader
Named scout leader
Pikemen
Sword & Board
Scout
Orcs
Named orc leader
Orc A
Orc B
Terrain
Statues of kings
Seeing throne ruins
Possibly a dead hero, shot by the big orcs? 😥

I'd also like to join others in this comment section in suggesting that a crossbow variant (or options if the customizer materializes) be added to the collection. An additional suggestion would be to include dual sword armed warriors, perhaps with light leather armour on? A more feral look would be perfect for those!
Crossbows will come in later. For now we have scouts :) So scout with modular option, including 2 swords. Can do :)

Those seem to be "rich" orcs! I'll call them the elite of the orcs! They rule over the "poor" ones, the very same that use scraps for armor...
Granted, those are designated as armoured and therefore higher up the food chain. My main point was the hybrid and random nature of the armour which appeals to me rather than concept art above which suggests to me that the Orcs are more advanced than the Elfs and Dwarfs when it comes to plate armour.

Sorry to sound like a damp squib, but I'm disappointed with the straight plate armored vibe, as it's very similar to another well known movie based Orc aesthetic. Ah, see, the concept you sent in is gorgeous, but follows the less logical art direction in my opinion. They have armor that needs time and skill to produce. My aim here was to make something "industrial", with easy to make bends. On the other hand, the historical rough base of XV-XVI century is something I'm trying to keep in there a little.
The name "Great Goblin" came up a couple times in the Hobbit. Black Orcs, Bugbears, Hobgoblin, Golg, all options.

So, do you think these concepts go well with the standard D&D half orc depiction? I got some voices on the KS that the goblins are not at all appropriate for 5e :D
I like the idea of Half-Orc in the release. I have a few buddies who play half orcs and I only have mainly Orc STLs and not enough half Orcs and that’s cuz I have1000s of STLs lol I’m not even sure I own half orcs tbh!
Would be cook if the scout was a tracker, in a tracking pose as an alternative maybe

I am honestly hyped for "Big Orcs", thats gonna fill a gap im my collection that Ireally wanted to stock up. For names I actually like simple stuff like "Black Orcs" (though you might want to save that for the Orcs in the third part of the journey) or "Half Orc" since those are the creation of the evil White Wizard... Sarmanda? :D (did he come up in texts before?) I hope we can get the Sword and Boards in Scout armor with some Archer Scouts to make up a nice Warband with thier named Leader.
I'm all up for natural names, though you are right about keeping "black orcs" for the future! I was actually thinking something along the "Half Orc" line, but I'm not quite sure it would go well with the overwhelming D&D stuff. I'd need to consult some specialists :D Ah, seems we need 2 scouts then... Not sure I can make it in this release, but for the future for sure!
1) Well, I hope to see more of them (mounted, crossbowmen, more armored, etc) so we can have more options for our games :). 2) Take your time for your exams, don't worry about it and no need to be sorry for the delay. University is important, do your best. About models, what weapons will the scout get? I think bows for sure in addition to sword and shield. Their name ... what about Or'akan? You can add some h too like Hor'akan, Or'Akhan. 3) I don't know much about contest and prizes ... usually I see painting contest made with release models and prizes go to free month subscription up to paint set/resin/printer. It's up to you ^^'. Never made one because my first printer should be delivered tomorrow so now I can partecipate to them :) (after all the print tests that await me).

I know you guys asked for those models for a long time, so it's only fair I deliver a wide range! 2) I try make my designs with logic first. I have done my fair share of running around in woods and mountains with reenactment equipment, and I know scouting with a shield is, uh, not optimal :D So they'll get bows and shortswords. 3) I hosted a contest in 2020, but I think it was a little too ambitious. Paint sets, resin, free subs or models sound just right!
How about an orc or two riding on a big old tusker pork?
Might consider that!
