To be honest.
As I wrote and gained experience, I've become increasingly unsatisfied by certain parts of PoH, and since we're nearing the end of current arc or rather beginning of another. Here's a question for you:

I liked the first part quite a bit, it definitely got me hooked in. I'd say only go with a rewrite if it's necessary
Eh I'm torn. My favorite part of a gender or species change story is always the first, but like other commenters have said, I've seen so many rewrites die before they ever reach the amount of work put into the source material. I say just do what you want, I've enjoyed every story you've ever posted so I'll read whatever you decide to put out.
It depends on exactly what you wanna change about the current iteration, and whether it's worth rewriting or just using your gained experience to work on the current and future arcs. I'd lean toward rewriting will hurt more than help, but that's just my opinion. I'll stay around regardless.
Oof, now this is a real tough choice. On the one hand I’m liking the story so far and I love all the characters in it. On the other hand there is quite a bit of Lore and character background that the story sometimes skips over and takes a while to explain, if ever. In particular the Michael incident that put Lily in a 500 year coma and Lily’s exact connection with Liam have yet to be explained, and Lily has been surprisingly reluctant to look into them.
Rewrites are, far too often, the death of a story. I have seen far too many stories die because of them.
You have a point in that the time it can take to rewrite up to the point the original story was at can cause the readers to lose interest. Well at least the author has other interesting stories that we can read while waiting for the new version of this one to catch up. I say just let the author follow their inspiration and do whatever they feel is right.
