[Misc] We need to talk
I hope that by this point, most of you who support me know that I care about my mods being reliable, and keeping your saves, well, safe from problematic bugs as much as possible. Because of that, I submit my work to testing, alone and with others when possible.
I am sure most of you understand this and don't need to be told, but since several sources revealed that the TESTING files for the work-in-progress RPO collection update have been shoved on pirate sites, it seems best to state the obvious anyways:
Testing files are TESTING files. They are NOT release-ready. They have bugs and incomplete features. People who join testing KNOW and ACCEPT that. They don’t put their usual save at risk, or use such files without knowledge of the risks. And most importantly: they are in DIRECT CONTACT with me about the files, and REPORT how they’re working out in game what’s broken, etc etc, so I can get things to the release-ready stage.
By using testing files while not being part of the testing group, you are putting your game at risk for no good at all since you’re not participating in reporting. Especially since you would have to download these files from sources that aren’t official and that can’t be guaranteed to be safe from tampering.
And while we're on it, let's address something else:
the pirate sites that claim to "hit only permapaywallers" are participating.
I have NEVER permapaywalled a mod, and have always spoken against permapaywalling, considering it is against EA's terms and thus basically copyright law. Heck, I am even against free-walling of public content (locking public posts behind newsletter subscriptions, forcing to join as free member, etc).
So them sharing my stuff is them revealing that they don't actually care about creators or "making things fair".
To those sites: if you're what you say you are, or if you care about your players not playing with buggy testing versions, stand by your principles, YEET those test files from your site. You are not welcome to my early access stuff either (I don't usually comment or mention when this type of piracy happens, but it does). I've been dedicating myself to modding for 5 years, you can't pretend "oh we don't know Lumpinou is not a permapaywaller", you've had 5 years of release behavior to prove it.
I'm trying to get testers for a mod so it can be released as bug-free as possible to the public. Please do your part and don't share beta files with people who have no clue what they're getting into and aren't in contact with me about it and won't report issues.

It is unfortunate that you had to make a post about this issue, but it is a sad fact that piracy in its many forms is extremely common in the internet age. I've proudly been a supporter of yours here on patreon since I found your mods many months ago, and plan to continue that as long as I can afford to. This has allowed me to help test many of your newer mods and I'm glad to have helped squash bugs in the early days of Law & Disorder, the Phone mod, and the latest RPO updates.

toxic mentally unwell simmers be doing what they do. kind of funny. people should be paid for their work, time is valuable but of course there's these people with the mindset that everything belongs to them with no effort, spoiled childish mindset. my comment may not agree with you but its how i feel, tired of seeing peoples hard work disregarded.
I'm sorry to hear about this. I was a Patron for a long time, but I had to end almost all of my memberships last year for financial reasons. However, to show my continued support - especially hearing what's been happening - I've rejoined and will continue to be a Patron as often as I can! It seems like the EA upcoming release of The Marketplace has stirred up some over-generalized, ignorant anti-modder sentiment and mis-information in some corners. I've addressed that whenever I've seen it. Obviously, though, the vast majority of mod users appreciate creators! As always let us know how we can support YOU- one of our community's most valued modders. I'm sorry you have been unfairly lumped in with people you have nothing in common with, and in fact are the opposite of. I hope this all gets corrected!

I would say they get what they deserve if they download a testing file from a pirate site and it breaks their game, but most times they probably come crying to you and that's got to be obnoxious for you! I'm sorry that's happening!

It's just scary because the day someone decides to shove a virus in something... Or the day a test version has a serious problem (more like, 'again', as this has happened in the past - testing serves to find issues after all)... These people who download from these places won't know or be prepared or be in the loop of communication to receive vital info

I'm not shocked given the state of the world we live in, but I am saddened for you and your testers-being violated and falsely accused in this way is devastating. You are an amazing modder. I wouldn’t be able to play my game without your mods. I can’t imagine how frustrating this situation is. I just want to say that us real supporters (whether free or payed) have your back. You are so well known in the community that everyone knows to go to your patron. To me it’s kinda shady to put out a mod that’s in beta that’s not complete that will eventually be made public when it’s done. Like how impatient and disrespectful can they be? I’m sorry this happened truly because it’s stuff like this that’s messes it up for everybody else!

Everyone who supports you, even tho you don't do permawall,knows this. We choose to support you because we see you work hard, make great mods ,update quickly,and you respond to comments here on Patreon. People who use mods from these sites know they are at risk . They do have the option to search your name and read your info.. 3-4 weeks to wait, when a mod is released isn't that long, and if it hasn't been released here yet, why do they think the unsupported one is finished... Stupid people act stupid, and blame others for their mistake... You are not the one to blame 🥰❤️
