Mortis Invicta Dev Log — Making the Daily Loop Fun… and Still LEWD

Hey guys!

I spent most of the first week scribbling ideas around and trying to figure out what kind of daily loop would actually feel fun for Mortis Invicta. One thing I’ve already started putting into the game is the new Retinue Manifest.

It gives Greg a quick overview of Mydea, Octavia, and Vesperyn, including their status, Warp Contamination, Obedience, Relationship, and any observations he has collected about them.

There’s also a simple personnel file for each crew member:

This will eventually become one of the main places for keeping track of the crew as the new management and corruption systems grow.

The Plan

For the rest of this month, though, I don’t want to make the new loop too complicated yet. I’m focusing on just two things:

Assigning retinue members to different jobs

Random crises happening around the ship

During the day, Greg will be able to send Mydea, Octavia, and Vesperyn off to do different tasks around the ship. They’ll disappear for the rest of the day, then report back the next morning with whatever happened. Different characters will obviously be better at different things, and some jobs might also come with... less desirable side effects. I also want random problems to start happening while Greg explores the ship. Things breaking, strange Warp incidents, crew problems, and other little disasters to make each day feel less predictable.

Later on, I’ll expand this with things like scavenging for spare parts, fabricating new components , and directly repairing the ship—but I’m saving that for future updates.

Ship Damage

The ship will slowly get worse as the days pass, following the same four stages as the current countdown events. For now, most of this will be reflected through the atmosphere, events, and crew dialogue.

And speaking of the crew...

Corruption

The longer everyone stays trapped in the Warp, the more shameless their everyday dialogue will become. At first they’ll still sound mostly normal.

Then slowly...

...less normal.

And eventually they’ll start saying some very questionable things with a completely straight face. Each character will still have their own personality, of course. I don’t want everyone turning into the same horny NPC.

Nighttime

Night will stay focused on the crew. Greg only gets one Night Action, so you’ll have to choose who you want to spend the evening with.

This is where things like:

  • Deep Talks

  • Chores

  • Romance quests

  • NSFW romance scenes with your retinue

will happen.

Mydea already has the basic version of this with her Deep Talks, Chores, and Servo Dildo quest, so I’ll use that as the starting point for the others.

There’s also one more problem.

If a retinue member gets “too corrupted”, they’ll be locked up in the Lower Brig Cell until Greg can purify them.

And purification also happens at night. So you may end up having to choose between:

Do I spend tonight progressing my romance?

or

Do I go downstairs and fix whatever the hell happened to Vesperyn?

There will eventually be both Puritan and Radical ways to deal with that. Puritan methods will be safer for Greg’s alignment but slower and less reliable, while Radical psychic methods will be... much more effective. And much less respectable.

So the basic idea is:

Day: manage the crew and survive whatever goes wrong.

Night: romance them... or deal with the consequences.

For this month, though, I’m keeping things small and focusing mainly on crew assignments and random ship crises.

Artwork-wise, I’m also keeping the update pretty light: probably around 1–2 new NSFW scenes, plus some new artwork showing the ship becoming more damaged as things get worse.

Small step first, then I’ll keep expanding the loop over the next few updates.

Cheers,

Celeng

Are you planning on showing visual changes to the crew as the corruption progresses? Im aware of how much work it usually adds due to additional needed artwork

Actually yes, brother. Eventually, I’d love for it to affect more than just the crew—the backgrounds gradually becoming overgrown with tentacles, and even the dialogue UI getting more corrupted over time. But realistically, I’m starting small: the Dataslate will show their existing sprites with an increasingly heavy purple overlay as their corruption worsens. Then I can slowly expand it by tweaking the existing normal and chibi sprites, rather than needing a huge amount of new artwork all at once. Hopefully, the Emperor permits such heretical changes…
