Firebreak Dev Update #15
Firebreak Release Soon!
We've been hard at work in postproduction on Firebreak, and it's with a mixture of apprehension and relief I can say that release is rapidly approaching.
Our second beta is in the testers' hands, with sound, music, and unlockable integration ongoing.
This is also the phase where we go over every line of dialogue looking to make sure it lands the way we envisioned.
This has been a herculean effort for us. Not one line of code from Chasing Sunsets lives on in Firebreak. We started entirely from scratch, and we've had some real roadblocks to overcome as a result of that. Finding a compression compromise Kentyrr could live with, and finding the inefficiencies in the UI that was lagging out MacOS and potato Windows builds among them.
But we've also done away with every cut corner and kludgey feature in Chasing Sunsets.
The import module is complete and tested. It will import completed saves from the Steam, Patreon, and Remastered version of Chasing Sunsets. Most of these variables affect Tara, Lisa and Bianca, so it's not like there's a tremendous amount of crossover in spite of cameos from both the MC and Jaye from our previous title.
We have a LOT of ground to cover in Chapter 1, including at least introducing every one of the love interests, and we hope we've come up with a fairly clever story beat to accomplish that.
If all goes well, there will be one more "feature complete" beta release in the next week or so, followed by a release candidate. If the RC passes QC, we'll offer Firebreak on Patreon, Subscribestar, and Itch shortly thereafter.
Firebreak will not go to Steam until a significant body of the game is complete, similar to Chasing Sunsets. We feel trust is difficult to come by as many products are left unfinished and burn the purchasers, and as such we try to make sure 50% of the final product is on the table before we offer it for "sale."
So what's left?
Right now I'm finalizing sounds, music, and running renders for the post credits scene, which is a tradition we're carrying over from Chasing Sunsets.
Hopefully in the next few weeks you'll receive a notification that the Release Candidate is in beta hands, and usually full patron release follows within a day or three.
Thank you for sticking with us as we started a new, far more ambitious project from scratch.
Stoya
