Malware and the sims4
this is an important annoucement, please read the entire post first before panicking ‼️‼️
Hi guys!
I want to give out an announcement to let you know that the sims4 modding community is being targeted by an individual who has been uploading malware disguised as mods in order to steal personal information and passwords.
as for now it only affects windows players, and it has been confirmed that the following mods have been compromised. If you downloaded any of these mods in the past two weeks, there’s a chance your information has been compromised. It is recommended that you change all your passwords immediately, especially ones for your discord, crypto wallet and bank accounts.
Curseforge has released a cleaner that will check your computer for this specific malware and remove it if it is detected: https://github.com/overwolf/sims4-social-events-cleaner/releases/tag/1.1

To recap, here are the mods we know for sure were affected by the recent malware outbreak:
"**Cult Mod v2**" uploaded to ModTheSims by PimpMySims (impostor account)
"**Social Events - Unlimited Time**" uploaded to CurseForge by MySims4 (single-use account)
"**Weather and Forecast Cheat Menu**" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account)
"**Seasons Cheats Menu**" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account)
"**Motherlode Menu**" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account)
"**Mood Cheat Menu**" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account)
"**Mouth Preset N16**" uploaded to The Sims Resource by PlayersWonderland (hacked, real account)
I recommend that you download this malware protection mod by TwistedMexi which will block out malicious mods from downloading the malware onto your computer in case you download any mods that has been compromised. https://www.patreon.com/posts/98126153

your mod seems to be broken every time i load it into my game recently it crashes when its not in my game it works ive checked every other mod and it works fine, just ur birth mod

Try Malwarebytes for all and any suspicions.
I also had this Trojan, although I didn't have any of the mods mentioned. I don't know where I got it from, but I had to format my entire hard disk and reinstall Windows. The Trojan could not be deleted by any means beforehand. :(

I am so glad; I removed all my CC & Mods that I downloaded from Curseforge before I updated them.

At first i was downloading CC and thinking of updating most of the mods i wish to have in my game, but right now i'm almost throwing everything on the trash bin... On second though i'll just see the ones i need to delete and check the creators i've been downloading CC from. Thanks for the warning!⭐

I have hair and makeup from MSQSIMS from 2023 would it better to delete it even though I ran a full virus can on my computer and it says everything is fine?
Package files are fine. Only script files are the issue.
Thank you I have a Mac so I think I'm ok I deleted those files and have ran a scan on my computer just in case
As someone that prefers to err on the side of caution i have a query: Are these for sure only updates/additions after Jan 1, 2024, i haven't updated anything, nor played for that matter, since the beginning of Dec. when for rent was added. (I'd like to also add that i did not have any of the listed mods.) I'm just wondering about the potential time-span of the infiltrating updaters to the affected mods.
I don't have these mods so I hope I'm safe, thank you for sharing this info with us. So glad your mods aren't on this list because I love the childbirth mod.

I can't express how thankful I am for all the creators spreading awareness and trying to fix the issue. I took a break from the sims, but not before I got some presets from one of the affected creators and the only reason I have even learnt about all of this were patreon e-mails from creators...
Is pimp my sims a real account or fake because they are still on Patreon?
From what i've been reading there's legit PimpMySims but they've been inactive for a while. This new one is an imposter. :(
Thank you so much unfortunately I haven't updated the game because there are still too many unresolved bugs with the pack For rent so I can't use the Tmex mod. Do you think I can use the antivirus software on Curseforge instead?
The curseforge one is not an anti virus, and it doesn’t work the same way as tmex’s mod guard

Thanks for the information. I do have malware protection on my computer already so I hope I’m ok. But I don’t have any of those mods.
you are very welcome! you should still download tmex's modguard as I have seen at least two people( who have investigated the malware) say malware protection/anti-virus cannot detect this particular malware when it is downloaded onto your computer. its better to be safe then sorry.
