Modding Diary - Travelling with the stroller

Hope you all are enjoying the stroller update☺️

First of all i want to give you guys a little update on my future update schedule. As many of you know I usually release an update every 3 month. The last update was the first one I released after just a month. I always thought that smaller and more frequent update would stress me out due to more demanding mod support and juggling multiple versions. But after the last update was released I actually feel the complete opposite 😶because the update was smaller it was way easier for me to bug fix, i wasn't staring at my code trying to recall what I did 3 months ago at 2am, the memory was still fresh and I knew exactly what to fix lol, and there wasn't as many bugs comparing to a big update. I felt so motivated seeing you guys enjoying the new features over all I just feel so happy idk why I didnt do this sooner. So anyways I want to continue doing smaller, more frequent update moving forward

now these last two weeks were mostly spent trying to get sims to travel to different lots with their stroller

after many trials and error it became apparent sims just can't travel to other lots with the stroller the same way they do bicycles 😫I can get them to travel with empty bassinets but as soon as theres a baby in there it stops working. Something in the game is definitely preventing babies from leaving the lot

and if i try to summon babies they show up in a random bassinet on a random spot 😑which is not ideal either

After days of struggle and weighing out my best options I finally got this to work. I know putting the baby in the inventory is kinda funny but it is the best option I have, It might seem straight forward but trust me its so incredibly difficult getting it work💀 now when travelling with the stroller you will have the stroller in your inventory upon arrival

you can click on it to place it down

and voila your baby is there, I will explain why this seemingly simple interaction is so difficult at the bottom of the post for those who are interested

For the actual health exam I made this baby exam table

and next week we are gonna start working on the custom animation where the doctor will perform the exam, in the meantime please enjoy my stick figure drawing

So why was travelling with the baby so difficult, why was it hard putting the baby in the inventory? Even tho babies are objects, they are still sims, and you can't put sims in inventories the same way you do regular objects, the game would not accept that. on top of that once you are on a new lot without the baby the game no longer knows which stroller the baby was in, so I were to summon the baby normally they would show up in a random bassinet.

To get my interaction to work I actually wrote a custom script that tells the game to find out which stroller the baby is in when you travel, create an empty version of it in the inventory and store the babys information in it. when you place down the stroller on the new lot I wrote another script that instantly teleport the baby into the empty stroller with the stored information. So something that takes a couple of seconds in game literally took me 2 weeks to make irl 💀but its working now so i got no complaints.
