Modding Diary - Getting Arrested
Hi guys! hope you are well! Its been a while since I made a post, but I am officially back to work and will be returning making weekly wip posts ☺️
This week I started working on the interaction that allow sims to abandon their own baby again. Some of you remember I was working on this a while ago but in the end I ran into some issues and couldnt get it released. Now Im back to working on it again using a different method.
To recap you will be able to abandon your own baby by clicking on them and selecting "abandon xyz"
You will have to put the baby in your inventory and leave them somewhere using the "place in world" interaction
However if there are other sims nearby they will see you and they might call the police on you🚓🚓 and you will be arrested💀
You can force your sims to get arrested as usual by using the shift click menu
the police will call you to say they are on the way
and an officer will show up on the lot
Ideally they will come and arrest you immediately but you can also click on them to manually start the interaction
Here is a custom animation for the arrest, they will approach your sim and explain they are putting you under arrest, and your sim will be devastated by the news
your sim will fade out into a rabbit hole by the end of the interaction and be sent to prison, they will be in prison for (3-5 days?)
I feel like sims SO or family members should be able to react or confront the sim who abandoned the child, but at the same time i feel like its such a catastrophic thing to do and I wonder how I would even conclude something like that

Hmm as someone who worked in children’s services I think I know what route I would take, for a realistic approach, baby could end up in state custody since it was abandoned, and then maybe they ask someone in the family if they want the baby and if not baby should go into foster care. But I think parents should have the option to seek custody when they get out of prison, in real life that might look like a multi step system to reunification, such as monitored visits at a place then monitored visits in public then unmonitored visits to overnights. And the parent would be required to work services like taking parenting classes, getting into therapy etc, and maybe the end result could be based on how close the kid and the parent become relationship wise? Along with other factors like living situation, money, work, etc. so in this case say Faziz gets out of jail and decides he does want his kid, he’d have to petition for custody and a judge would review his case and he would be assigned a social worker who enrolls him in say parenting classes and maybe once a week the social worker comes over with the kid and they get 8-12 hours to “bond” lets say the petition for custody is a event similar to the mid life crisis even, where it last for a few days and after so many days you go see a judge again and he reviews your progress, if your successful you get custody but if you fail you have to petition for another try but like pleading with death it’s 50/50 on whether the judge agrees to another chance etc.
I can't recall, can the baby be abandoned at a business or say hospital where there wouldn't be repercussions? I ask this fully knowing that I have no idea how all of this works and it could be an absurd notion.

I love how thoroughly judgmental the police officer is. (And rightly so!) I am so looking forward to this mod.
I love this! If you could include some sort of resentment from the child to the parent later in life that would be awesome too.

I'm so excited! Will there be an interaction where you can discuss abandoning a child with your sims partner, like discussing what to do with an abandoned baby
I have been contemplating on a idea like that, im just trying to figure out what would be the appropriate response if a sim abandoned their baby despite their partner being against it
