DIRECTOR'S CUT: Movie Couples Therapy: ENCHANTED
What is the difference between love and attraction? Can you fall in love with someone you don’t initially get along with?
Licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright compare the many couples from Enchanted, particularly Giselle and Edward and Giselle and Robert. They talk about what love is and why the classic love at first sight and true love’s kiss tropes don’t work. They discuss what it’s like to play a cartoon character in live action, and why Amy Adams nails it. They’re excited for Enchanted 2 and what Giselle and Robert’s relationship looks like years later.

Revisiting and now I really miss Sophie in videos
James Marsden is one of my absolute favorite actors (and he's entirely too dreamy to be a real person) and the fact that he's never won any of the major awards is a crime against film.
Hold up. Is Buddy the elf in the Disney universe then? Imagine Donald duck and buddy goin on adventures together. "Don't be mad, Donald! We're in the Candy Cane Forrest!" Meanwhile, Donald keeps going crazy because his hand keep getting stuck to the Candy Canes.
My theatre class cast this entire movie with ourselves one day during lunch 🤣 I was cast as Giselle because I was the only one who had red hair……. Amy Adams is so wonderful in this movie. 💜
I think NF's song "Thing Called Love" perfectly encapsulates what love is and I am freshly obsessed with that song.
Jonathan & Alan, did you see Disenchanted yet? I don't want to spoil it for anyone so my only comment about it is 😍😍😍
Haven't yet. Possible over the weekend, but likely over Christmas. We're watching Lord of the Rings at the Seawright house, and we have lots of movies to prep for our next shoot! -Alan
I loved this and laughed so much during the outro (I feel like that’s a word … the opposite of intro … right?!?). My biggest takeaway though was just massive excitement for the forthcoming episode on the Muppet Christmas Carol!! I have watched that 100s of times and am stoked to hear your take on it!! 🎄🎉💚🤓
Such a great movie.
This was fun!
Thank you!
I love this movie! I remember my 5th grade teacher who caused problems for me mentally and who I didn't care for hating this movie, and just as an adult how much I love it and how great it is!
this was great! always felt personally attacked by this movie lol but now, i'm good with it. so, Alan, the way comments work is when two ppl love each other, and..... j/k😂
Okay, but the Timothy Spall turned #AccidentalGollum at the end was amazing 😝
Yes!! Excited for this! Thanks guys!
Love this video. My take on Jody Benson's character's reaction at the beginning was that she didn't actually believe Robert was "being rational." To me, I think she was the one who saw his relationship for what it was.
I love Jody’s cameo in this movie! Also Judy Klum(Pochantas) and Paige O’Hara(Belle) have cameos and it makes me so happy. Haha
Oh I love this episode & I really love this movie! Always love to have reminders, of what love is. I mean you know that this is not how love works/happens, but with all the movie love stories, you can sometimes get stuck & become a bit of a hopeless romantic ^^ And I think if you really grow a relationship, get to know your partner & build love, you can have true love's kiss. Just wouldn't be the first one I guess 🙈😄
I couldn't tell; were you to impersonating Austin Powers or Severus Snapes at the "Watch movies" part?
I thought I knew but ... now I'm not sure. Maybe it's an impression of Nathaniel, Queen Narissa's henchman?
I have yet to watch this movie because of the immense second hand embarrassment it gives me from just the first few minutes of the film but I may have to brave the storm now 😭😂
I'm not sure what you mean (are you embarrassed for the characters? That was my interpretation but wasn't certain) but it's delightful. 💗 Lean in and embrace the awkward, it was definitely meant to be in there lol
Yay! I'm so happy about this!
