DIRECTOR'S CUT: Therapist Reacts to Meet the Robinsons with guest Bryson from Haminations
Why do we put up a front when we seek to belong?
Licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright react to Meet the Robinsons with guest and fellow YouTuber, Bryson from Haminations. They talk about Lewis seeking adoption and struggling to be accepted. Jonathan explains the anxiety and desperation of seeking acceptance, and they all talk about the importance of being yourself to truly belong. And Bryson takes the therapy wheel and impresses us all!

PLEASE get Bryson back for a Bluey episode!! <333
I did a little math for Lewis’s interviews, since we know he was left there as a baby, he would have had on average not even 1 interview/month. But with his comment of older kids being more hard to adopt, I’d assume his interviews slowly became less frequent.
Hi, what's the gospell song at 22:04?
Big Red Cube here! Finally watching this episode. 2 things: 1) This whole episode I was like “Man, this kid could be my doppelgänger.” So, what an honor for him to shout me out! 😂 2) The story behind my tag name. My friends and I often joke about my strong self-confidence. One day we took a personality quiz. One of the questions asked for you to visualize a cube. While my friends pictured hand-held bland colored cubes…I pictured a 10 foot x 10 foot big giant red one. Turns out, the cube you visualized was supposed to represent your ego. And thus the name stuck.
It is such a delight to listen to Bryson. I am super happy we have young people that are so educated about emotions and growth mindset, this gives me hope ❤️
Did Jono+Alan bromance just get even better with Bryson? I did not think it was possible! :)
Did Bryson wear his shirt backwards to honor Lewis' adoptive father?!? I have seen this video 2x and just noticed it looks he keeps adjusting his t-shirt because of this.....?
What a healthy conversation you had there. So happy to see an animator being invited and also super happy to hear he was applying principles of stoicism to his life, that's quite impressive at his seemingly (younger) age. Very cool! I hadn't seen this movie but I might watch it now.
Alan's head nod when Jono said it was a better funnier version of what I would have said. I was dying
tragedy - comedy = -time
There are 2 jonos.
Love this movie and commentary! But as a side note, I would love to avoid politics like the plague, but that is almost impossible as a woman of color lol.
This was my oldest son’s favorite movie when he was 4. We must have watched it a million times. Thankfully my husband and I liked it too. (I keep telling the kids that we should have a series of movies nights where we watch their childhood favorite movies. This would be one of his. 🥹). We still quote this movie at times. “Bowler hat guy!” “Excellent! ‘Excellent.’ Are you just repeating what I’m saying? ‘Uh… No” And “why aren’t you seizing the boy?!?” “I have a big head, and little arms! I’m just not sure how well this plan was thought through….Master?” But in seriousness, after a series of family hardships and traumatic experiences, my motto has been “keep moving forward.” I’ve told my kids “we don’t say ‘move on’ instead say ‘move forward.” I took that lesson from this movie. 💞
This movie might be one of the reasons I've thought of adopting. Anything to stop bowler hats! JK
I'm pretty sure if Bryson was up for adoption, Jonno would be taking him home.
Or visa versa 🤣

I tried to fit in at the CT discord, but it wasn't me. Sorry.
the oompa loompa song automatically playing in a guy's car is a massive green flag 🫡
I watched this in theaters in 3D. The hat's world scared me so much I still can't watch it.
have y'all watched second hand lions? it is an amazing movie.
I LOVE that movie. It’s one that is so well done, I don’t care how many times I see it, I will always end up crying either from laughing or from the feels. 😂
Omg, please tell me I’m not the only one that thinks Bryson looks like if Jono and Alan had a teenage son. 😂😂
You are so not the only one 🤣🤣🤣
Welcome to future recurring guest host Bryson! Maybe you all could do letting go of grief and blame in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Alan's "I'm fourth" made me laugh way too much
Honest to God, thought Bryson was John's son when I first saw them together
Me too! 🤣 not just the looks, also the vibe 😁
This has made my week. I love this film so much, I cant believe you guys did a video on it <3
I literally tell friends in relationships who are having even minor issues in their mid 20s to go to relationship therapy “because no body teaches you how to be in a relationship and how to handle problems as a couple” you just get into relationships and are expected to figure it out as it goes
“Tragedy plus time equals comedy”-tig notaro in her 2013 special “tig notaro LIVE” from the bit “…Hello, I have cancer”. Mike birbiglia also does it in his special “Thank god for jokes”
C.S. Lewis said the quote about children's stories!! Love it!!
It’s like Christmas morning! This movie is one of the greats!! I even spelled my son’s name after this Lewis!
Gandolf is definitely channeling Alan in that photo 😅🥲
I love this movie, some of the lines are so funny. Especially the dinosaur “I have a big head and little arms.” The lessons in this movie are so important. I also loved seeing Bryson, I will definitely check out your animation. Bryson is absolutely right about the education of Social Emotional Learning. I am the music teacher at an elementary school and we have as one of our other specials classes, Social Emotional Learning (SEL). My colleague teaches students how to cope with emotions and disappointment. I have said I know many adults who could benefit from her class. I think it is one of the best choices the school made.
Hehe…..Alan calling Jono out for being “desperate” in college with dating 🤣😆 I actually really love this movie. While I agree that the animation hasn’t held up, lol, the story does. I myself was adopted, as well as two of my siblings, so this feeling of not fitting in or not belonging hits HARD. I’m the only theatre nerd, I love art and writing and Disney movies and glitter…..the rest of my family is well-nurses and sports nerds. 🤣 Also I LOVE the animations Bryson added to this episode. Haha. Can he animate all the rest of the episodes from now on? Lol
Is it just me, or does Bryson look like he's actually related to Jono?
One of my favorite sayings is "It's not your fault, but it is your problem." I love that people like Bryson exist. He is so much more emotionally intelligent than I was at his age.
I had never heard of Haminations before, which is crazy cause I love storytime Youtubers. So I went to the channel and decided I was going to start from the beginning and OMG, he sounds so little in the earlier ones! It's so adorable!
I hope that Labyrinth was an example of failure, but that it gets revamped from a therapeutic standpoint and can hopefully be (re)released? There were valid points made from your guy's perspective--the filmmaking was.... off-putting at best.
Confirmation bias is always there to prove you’re right…even when you’re wrong.
I see what Alan is saying about the animation. Personally, I kind of love the weird retro 90ish vibe the movie has. Yes, it could be so much better buy it'd a quirky film script already, and the script doesn't feel as sophisticated as Ratatouille. So I appreciated the differing film styles here.
This was one of my favorite movies growing up! Looking back, I see how much the message of "Keep moving forward!" Has shaped me into who I am now. This was such an amazing episode! It was lovely having Bryson!
I just stated watching and I am already misty. My mom was a foster kid and has awful family and I didn't know my father or his family until I was 17. This movie made me feel seen in the absolute acceptance of chosen family. 😭
Jono is that mate I see in the corner??👀👀
Dang Bryson throwin down some really good quotes! I love that the tools provided in this episode can be applied to connections with anyone.
Ooh! I didn't see in the theater but I loved Meet The Robinsons from the first moment I saw it on television. It's a lovely, underrated, Disney gem!
( Sometimes I comment before I watch the video) I agree with the note ' the animation for this movie is not perfect but the script hits you in the heart'
I plan to be a high school English teacher, and I have often daydreamed about designing a curriculum based on reading films like literature and including as many Cinema Therapy as possible.
He looks like you both threw in some DNA and grew him in a LAB 🥰🥰🥰 Also, I LOVED " Fitting in is the opposite of belonging " 🥰😍
Also how to succeed. Having Girt and a growth mindset are something that many kids would benefit learning in school.
Have a good day everyone!!
Bryson was so fun! You should have him back again some time
We already are! :)
Awesome episode! Thanks as always for the great content 💖
I’m glad that my kids have social emotional learning in school now
"Stages of grief speedrunner" Love that so much
“I’m not walking away, I’m accepting reality” -Lysa TerKurst “Good boundaries and goodbyes”
Lucky! The chairs always look so comfy!
I'll say, as a public policy student, politics can certainly make you feel jaded sometimes... all the time lol
100% of the time. On a side note, I’ve been looking for a new job…
“I have a theory” always leads to major confusion or extreme hilarity
Or singing, if you are a Buffy fan.
Is it just me or does this sound like Jim carry
Ooooh, I hate when people don't take accountability
Goob had a point, Lewis kept him from getting a good night’s rest, and his team was awful for beating him up. But saying everyone hated him when that clearly wasn’t the case, I wouldn’t call that an accountability issue, more like he was trapped in his own way of thinking. Which obviously isn’t a good thing either.
I watched this video all the way to drop off clean underwear for my potty training 3yo son at daycare 😂 I took them four pairs so hopefully they won’t need me again.
I LOVE Meet the Robinsons. As an orphan, especially an autistic orphan, this movie was like my own personal dream. I didn't get adopted by an amazing family that supported my crazy ideas, but at least this movie let me fantasize about it happening. 🤣
I can't even tell the difference between him and Carrie Underwood. They sound the same
I didn’t know Keep Moving Forward was a direct quote from Walt Disney until the end of this movie.
It's giving me "Robots" from 2005
The Wonka soundtrack slaps
That’s what I felt like when I was in high school that I had to be in a group to fit in til I realized later on I wasn’t being myself
I’ve only seen Gandalf on these videos and I love him.
GANDALF 4 LYFE 💖
THE GOODEST BOY!
My therapist recently asked me what being lovable really means, I couldn’t answer it, I only know I don’t feel lovable… so I googled it lol.
Omg that high road animation! 🤣🤣🤣
They all get along so well. Love it
I love that quote
Imagine if the bots on YT copyright strike the video for uncited quotes 🫢
I consistently feel like I need to prove/self-appriase myself to new people. I hate that about myself (in reference to the commentary just now).
I know what you mean. I'm the same, mainly around new teachers or mentors. It's like, I just wanna be impressive, but it's honestly so bad for my mental health :,)
Except you’re awesome, Alan.
My friend sent me a picture of a tangerine slice fitting into a garlic clove and it was captioned “not everywhere you fit in is where you belong”
I love that meme
Okay , why not say he’s allergic to peanuts instead of “I don’t know,” and “this isn’t necessary?”
It is a great dad joke lol
Lauren! Not to worry. They just started watching clips
I’ve never heard of this cartoon (is this a movie?)
Shoot, I’m late! -jumps in-
How many people here are actually “working”? 😋
Yes
I love this movie. Its comedy lands for me, and the message of accepting who you are and finding those that see you
It's one of my favorites tbh
Should I be watching this instead of working on my assignment due in 2 hours? Probs not. Am I going to continue watching? You bet your ass I am
Procrastination generates some very creative takes when it comes to work and while I don’t love my own procrastinaty habits… I still do it all the time lmao
Bryson’s got some good hair
I miss my hair
Wow! He could be Jono’s son 🫨
I made it in time!
I can’t stay long sadly I am at work doing prep work
Good Morning everyone!
Hi :)
Love me a little Carrie Underwood in the morning
Good morning everyone
Good morning!
Woo!! Let's gooooo
Made it to my first Drop. Let's goooo
The way I got this notification while watching Jono therapize Bluey on Mended Light 😂
This question has reminded me of the time when I did put up a front. Which reminds me of why I grown uncomfortable around other humans.😑
This is one of my all time favourite movies! Can't wait!
Yes!! Bake them cookies, Lucille!! 💃🏼
“I have a big head! And little arms!!!!”
It feels like you guys are reading my brain. I rewatched this movie recently and thought itd be great if y'all did an episode on it and now here it is!🤩
