FRANCHISE FRIDAY September
Howdy all - HOW are we this far into the year??
FIRST OFFFFFF
I really feel like I fucked up the Matrix franchise. I really should have went back rewatched the first movie, or at least my reaction, before continuing. I swear I enjoy the matrix - even if it's just for the action, stunts, and the bare minimum understanding of human versus machines. I wanted to say I'm sorry for anyone I let down in those reactions.
OKAY I'm going to include a few of the OG monster movies in this because I know MANY of you have been asking for them. I feel like I should watch them, too. If I'm honest, I never include them in Hallobeans polls for the simple fact that: I save night vision for Halllobeans and I just feel like night vision might be wasted on these particular older movies. NOT KNOCKING THEM - I just.. ya know.. I think you get it. I do still feel like I should watch them eventually though so I'll be adding them for Wednesday options in October as well. Just franchise Friday gets four knocked out, ya know?
AND make fun of me if you must BUT I'm planning on September Mondays to be a little "easier" watches. We had a lot of thinkers in August - which I'm not mad about but - when a reactor "gets the wrong" it can be discouraging (at least for me). NOT EVEN EASIER MOVIES - just like.. more straight forward or something. Probably like an alien movie choice, maybe spicy movie poll???
ONEEEE last thing. CLICK HERE AND CHECK THIS OUT - Hot Mess Express member, and resident movie expert, Tyler made this LetterBox for movies that other reactors have watched that I have yet to see on the channel. These films look to span all genres and years! I'd love for you all to check this out and maybe let me know what you'd like to see :). Thank you Tyler for making this - you are the best and I hope both sides of your pillow is always cold.
also also also - supernatural finale is uploading and will be available shortly :)
okay I'mma stfu and you can vote now! Multiple choice!

I still insist on the Rocky franchise
If the Godzilla franchise wins (now, or in the future), with regards to the original movie, with or without Raymond Burr? Personally, I vote to roll young Ironside out of the picture.
"James Bond" for September Franchise Friday "Scary Movie (Parts 1, 2, 3)" for October Franchise Friday
When will we see the previous poll winner for Sam Neil in Bicentennial man?
We’re gonna need a Hayden Panettiere poll 🥺😞 she’s in Scream 4 too by the way
I am a massive horror fan and would love to see the Monster Movie reactions... but... honestly? *Complete* honesty? I *need* that A View to a Kill reaction. I need it. And my Birthday is soon. So. I voted for James Bond.
I know it’s not a franchise but we need more Musical Monday polls!
An addition to Tyler's list that I would like to recommend: Maverick (1994): Jodie Foster, Mel Gibson
SKIP any other Cruel Intentions “sequels”. The 2nd one was supposed to be a TV series on Fox but it got cancelled before it even aired. They used some of the first 3 episodes they shot, reworked the story, did reshoots and turned it into a prequel tv movie. It’s all different actors. The 3rd movie has nothing to do with the first movie or its characters. It’s just a cheaper imitation of the first movie. The first is iconic and nothing else compares. Just had to get that out so it’s not wasting space on future polls. 😁
From Tyler's list: I liked Arrival and As Good as it Gets is a good movie. Candyman was good (don't know if it ages well). Crouchin Tiger, Hidden Dragon was a good movie and probably still is! Mean Girls and Napoleon Dynamite are funny. Scary movie, yes! It's missing Frailty (2001), though.
The Pink Panther franchise is utterly hilarious! The monster movies should be combined and have Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941) starring Spencer Tracy and Ingrid Bergman included for Hallobeans.
here's my spicy movies suggestions Basic Instinct, Fatal Atraction, Striptease, Nine 1/2 Weeks, In the Realm of the Senses, Last Tango in Paris, Wild Orchid and Crash (1996)
I would also prefer you finish up James Bond. Good stuff is on the way - eventually. If you want to sneak in some Universal OG Horror just remember that the movies are not too long. Frank/Bride of Frank are really just one story and are 70 min and 75 min - so you can squeeze both into one episode. Dracula is 74 min, Wolf Dude 70, Invisidude 70 - you get the idea. Do two at a time
After you finish all the Connery era Bond movies (if you haven't already) you can watch the Flint movies, Our Man Flint (1966) and In Like Flint (1967). They are a spoof of the Bond movies, and they probably inspired the Austin Powers movies as much as the actual Bond movies.
As someone who lost a 7500 scholarship because of James Bond 15 years ago I can't ever vote for Him. Screw Ian Flemming
Two suggestions for the TV franchise to watch. Reacher and Ted Lasso. Completely different but both wonderful.
Oooh.. the OG monster movies!! YES!! Also, I barely got through the C's on Tyler's list before I was like.. yes, yes yes! lol.. Hard recommends though: Armageddon Backdraft Blast from the Past Bridesmaids City Slickers (both please!) Devil's Advocate Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (been advocating for this one for awhile) King Kong ('05 there are a couple of these I believe. Maybe 3?) Mission Impossible!!!!!!!!!! The Wedding Singer And one that isn't on there.. Run (1991)
I will also vote for James Bond, if it has been over a year since the last Bond Reaction then its its the perfect time for it to be voted in again
I was like... NAH it couldn't have been... it sure has!
I went with the classic monsters (the one with franky's bride) because they are just so wonderful plus Ashleigh really needs to see the bride of frankenstein as it's the best of the bunch. I also went with the OG apes. Rod Serling (of the og twilight zone show) co-wrote the first apes movie even tho he didn't get a credit for it. I have been watching a lot of classic films recently (30s-60s) and there are some really good gems out there. Here is a list of a few that I highly recommend to all and I hope Ashleigh will react to one day soon: Night of the Hunter (1955) - Robert Mitchum, Shelly Winters Witness for the Prosecution (1957) - Marlene Dietrich, Tyrone Power Barefoot in the Park (1967) - Robert Redford, Jane Fonda I love this one so much Charade (1963) - Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn The Little Foxes (1941) - Bette Davis, Herbert Marshall Vivacious Lady (1938) - Jimmy Stewart, Ginger Rogers Rebecca (1940) - Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine, Alfred Hitchcock directed
"AND make fun of me if you must"... ...I'm surprised that was ever in doubt. 😂
Godzilla!
The movies… beaches, click and just go with it are great too!
Radio and the perfect storm are also incredible movies
Hell yeah, Pink Panther! And Tyler’s right on the money about Dumb and Dumber. But I’ll once again throw my hat in the ring for the Rush Hour franchise. I think only Ashleigh and Octokrool haven’t reacted to it yet. (Edit: Octokrool has now reacted to Rush Hour 😂) As for the first six Star Trek films, I really think Ashleigh should watch Star Trek: TOS first for full context, as well as the Director’s cuts for TMP, Wrath of Khan, and Undiscovered Country, as TMP got a newer version with updated effects in HD, and Wrath of Khan’s DC finally got a Blu-ray release that doesn’t have drained color grading.
Just wanted to also remind Ashleigh that if she ever has a day where she forgets to have a poll or there's an extra Friday or something, she can round out the John Wick series and watch Ballerina 🩰
Spicy movie? Before there were fifty shades.. 9 and 1/2 Weeks Full Moon Junction Red Shoe Diaries - the movie Dangerous Beauty The Lover Unfaithful Dangerous Liaisons All kinds of spice..😘
Is Supernatural already over? It's Winchester Wednesday and my weekly dose isn't available😂
For James Bond, don’t do Never Say Never Again! It is not an official James Bond movie, and it is absolutely horrible!!!
Oh duuuudeee I've been spamming your YouTube channel with comments trying to get you to watch The Mask of Zorro with Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins for YEARSSSS
I recommend watching Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein as a double feature. As each is only about 1 1/4 hours they make a nice 2 1/2 hour double feature. This would let you watch five Universal monster classics in the month: Frankenstein/Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy, The Invisible Man.
Can't leave out Flight Of The Navigator or The Great Race. Gotta throw in Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves because its a lot of fun watching Alan Rickman's acting
The Great Race, definitely!
The lesser-known but awesome gem on your list is "Blast from the Past". Pure fun. Guaranteed.
It's okay. The Matrix movies sucked, Ashleigh.
Only the first one was great
If you do Godzilla I'm just going to start going on about you doing a load of Japanese cinema.
Yes please plus HK action movies and korean thrillers
For a spicy movie poll, look at the options for Rotten Tomatoes: 125 sexiest movies of all time.
The thing about Godzilla is that it will probably never win on Franchise Friday if you start with the OG series. There are currently 38 Godzilla movies. Although there is certainly a devoted chunk of Godzilla fans who would love to see you react to all of them, my guess is that the most effective thing to do would be to watch the original and then see what the viewers think you should do next. The original Planet of the Apes may also be a bit of an uphill battle. Many channels do the original 1968 Planet of the Apes and then the trilogy of reboot movies, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and War For the Planet of the Apes. Personally, an unlikely recommendation that I would make is to watch three of the original PotA movies: the first one, Escape From the Planet of the Apes (#3) and Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (#4), which tell a pretty complete story about specific characters. There are only a couple of very minor things that would be briefly confusing if you did not see Beneath the Planet of the Apes (#2), and of course cutting off before the last original Planet of the Apes movie, Battle For the Planet of the Apes (#5) won't cause any problems since the next movie after that is the reboot from decades later, starting its own, different version of events. The three movies from each series chosen even complement each other: the original PotA and Rise show you were it all began in two ways. Escape and Dawn show you attempts at co-existence, with emphasis on two different societies. Last but not least, Conquest and War show you what happens when the conflict reaches a breaking point. The Cruel Intentions sequels were all direct-to-video and are not very well-liked, as far as I know. I don't think anyone will vote for them (maybe the second one has some sort of following but I've only heard it spoken about a couple of times, in sort of an ironic way). There are a handful of franchises like that, where any follow-ups were made cheaply and likely without anyone from the original movies involved. Lastly, there is definitely a cut-off point for the Pink Panther movies. The series is as follows: • Pink Panther, The (1963) • Shot in the Dark, A (1964) • Inspector Clouseau (1968)^ • Return of the Pink Panther, The (1975) • Pink Panther Strikes Again, The (1976) • Revenge of the Pink Panther, The (1978) • Trail of the Pink Panther (1982)* • Curse of the Pink Panther (1983)* • Son of the Pink Panther (1993)* • Pink Panther, The (2006)^ • Pink Panther 2 (2009)^ The series follows Inspector Jacques Clouseau, a character created by writer/director Blake Edwards and star Peter Sellers (who you saw as three different characters in Dr. Strangelove, including the title character). Edwards and Sellers were both involved with the fist six movies, with the exception of Inspector Clouseau, which was directed by someone else and features a different actor playing Clouseau. The three films that follow were largely unpopular attempts by Edwards to continue the series without Sellers after his passing. The ones marked with asterisks you can probably outright skip, and the ones marked with arrows are ones where it'd probably be worth asking if these are something your viewers want to see (honestly, I think they're all ones that you specifically may want to see at least once given who is in them, but which are probably inessential for fans of the series).
Where's Marvel? You're not that far from being caught up.
I will vote OG Planet of the Apes every time until it happens! 😭
From Tyler’s Letterboxd list, I would love for you to see: A Knight’s Tale Scott Pilgrim vs The World The Mask of Zorro Pacific Rim Constantine Tron Dune I’m a big fan of any of these movies and would recommend any of them, but to give you an idea/vibe on them, I would say my list of picks are fun/action/popcorn flicks at the top and transitions down toward the bottom to more straight up/serious/action flicks, with Dune down at the bottom as a bit of a “thinker”
For both Pink Panther and OG Planet of the Apes, it's worth watching the first one. But you don't need to treat them as franchises. The sequels are basically repeating the same movie over and over. The same is mostly true of old-school Godzilla. The more modern ones start to be different. But if you're trying to watch 38 movies in order, I doubt you'll get to the newer ones. Instead of watching the later, bad Terminator movies, you should consider watching the Sarah Connor Chronicles TV show. It's much better.
You cannot go wrong with some original Universal Studios monster movie. I also recommend Abbott & Costello meet (various monster) movies. Those are awesome.
Godzilla to get to the original Mothra the absolutely BEST of the kaiju
I'm hoping against hope that, sometime, somewhere, someone will react to the 1931 Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde with Frederic March.
So many good options.
Pink Panther! Excuse me... does your douge bite???
Unrelated! Far off genre...Love to see Ashleigh watch Gene Wilder in "Start The Revolution Without Me" It's her brand of silliness.
Django Unchained, Inside Man, Rise & Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, You've Got Mail, Zombieland, Tropic Thunder, Scary Movie. For Hallobeans, I think you should do CandyMan.
A ‘Women’s Revenge’ movie month could be fun. Double Jeopardy w/Ashley Judd & Tommy Lee Jones (1999), Sleeping With The Enemy with Julia Roberts (1991), Gone Girl with Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck (2014), and Promising Young Woman with Carey Milligan (2020)
I like the Universal Monsters but my vote goes to James Bond. I want you to check Daniel Craig movies. Also i saw tylers list. It has amazing movies but there's one that i would really enjoy your reaction The Raid plus it's sequel The Raid 2.
For easy watching I would suggest the following: Harvey Wayne’s World Tommy Boy You’ve Got Mail Bringing Up Baby The Great Race When Billie Beat Bobby Rome Adventure Space Jam The Women (1939 version) Top Hat Silent Movie Moon Over Miami Merrily We Live The Adventures of Robin Hood Drop Dead Gorgeous Casino Royale (1967 version) What’s New, Pussycat Barbarella Queen of the Galaxy The Party Hello Dolly A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum Pirates of Penzance The Cheap Detective Once Upon a Mattress (2005 version) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Noises Off Champagne for Caesar Without a Clue Cannonball Run Mannequin (1987) Earth Girls Are Easy
I've been dreaming of the day she experiences The Last Dragon (and no she dont need to watch Bruce Lee movies to enjoy it)
Other movies you need to watch- mean girls, devil wears Prada, bridesmaids, the butterfly effect, crash
Ashleigh! For Wednesdays, you should watch ARCANE! You could do 3 episodes per upload (as they're meant to be watched in three-part chunks anyway), which would be exactly 6 uploads for both seasons, and end just in time for Hallobeans season!
Really hoping that the Pink Panther films win one of these polls. Ashleigh's laugh makes me smile!
I'm still holding out for Charlie Brown/Peanuts!
Also, I would absolutely love Ashleigh to do a spicy movie poll. Basic Instinct would definitely make that list. ❤️🔥
Love the idea of a spicy poll! I would add Fatal Attraction and Unfaithful with Diane Lane to that list.
Godzilla all the way. Watch 1954, Godzilla Minus One and then the Legendary movies (Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. King Kong, Godzilla vs. Kong: Mew Empire). The Legendary movies are stupid good fun with great effects.
I am STILL going to die on the James Bond hill. They are about to get so good. Ashleigh is so close to Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. ❤️🔥❤️🔥
Do you know how many Bond movies are left?
If the Pink Panther wins, be sure to include "A Shot In The Dark" the second film and the only one without the words Pink Panther in the title, but I reckon it's the best of all of them.
Oh man, the two "OG monster" choices are both great and it's really hard to pick between them. These are classics for a reason.
So there is a movie Not Another Teen Movie, great parody, but like the MCU, requires you watch a few other movies first. Cruel Intentions is on that journey.
She’s all that, varsity blues, 10 things I hate about you, breakfast club, cruel intentions, American pie, bring it on, never been kissed, save the last dance.
Come on, original Planet of the Apes. I don’t get why there’s so many Bond votes already. She’s already done a lot of those.
Probably because people love the Brosnan and Craig eras of Bond and want her to get there ASAP.
I'm voting Godzilla just to eventually get to Godzilla Minus One, one of the best movies of the last 10 years
Amazing movie but i also enjoy the old goofy ones, the Honda ones are hillarious.
Oooh... the OG Godzilla and other Kaiju movies are really a lot of fun. I remember watching them as a kid and enjoying the heck out of them... I still pull out my DVDs of them for a guilty pleasure from time to time...
