WATCH ALONG: Supernatural S1 E1

Ok, you win. I made it to Nightmare before deciding to just get Patreon. This is my favorite show of all time. I love 3 eps a week, but just doesn't give me enough for each ep. I need more! 😅 Looking forward to joining you here.

Supernatural came out a little after Buffy did on the same network and were marketed similarly, so the shows are often talked about in conjunction. A lot of stuff that SPN does well were things that BtVS did first (and often better, but not always). There's more meat on the bones with BtVS, imo, and watching Buffy wrestle with issues of morality and choice and heroism at a formative age made me challenge a lot of the problematic rhetoric I'd been raised with and truly made me a better person. SPN's depiction of heroism and morality tends to be pretty stereotypically macho in contrast, and more often reinforces rather than subverting or challenging those kinds of narratives. That being said, the first five seasons of Supernatural are excellent TV and are deeply satisfying.

Man, I had always assumed you had seen this show. I mean, it seems like the show that is right up your ally. If you watch in bursts of 3, you will fly through this show and you will love it. Seasons 7 and 8 are rough, but also contain many Fan Favorite episodes. Can already tell... she is a Dean Girl.

Supernatural bought me here. This show is peak.

Just watched this with my copy and had to keep pausing mine to sync up, seems we have slightly longer version here in the UK. Nothing major just longer moments no extra dialogue though.

I'm so excited! As a huge fan of Buffy, I've always wanted to watch the show, but I never devoted the time it needed. With so many seasons and episodes, it felt a bit intimidating. I did watch Season 1 almost 20 years ago, but I can't remember what happened. With your watch-alongs, I finally have the chance to experience it properly and enjoy it with a buddy!

I am so F'ing ready for this! Supernatural is my second favorite show, only beaten out by Buffy. I can confidently say that for the first 5 seasons it only gets better the deeper you go. You are in for a special treat!
