ROUTE 66 MOVIE
As you may or may not know - Hubben and I have decided to tackle the Great American Roadtrip… It has been a journey to say the least.
We actually just got back from our second leg of the trip: Oklahoma City to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Wouldn’t you know it; if having the proper Route 66 Navigation gps made the second portion a bit easier than the first!
This made me wonder about movies that are centered around or involve Route 66 - because apparently spending days of my life driving the bitch isn’t enough.
I know this isn’t much to choose from but I’ve already seen Little Miss Sunshine and National Lampoon’s Vacation… let me know what you’re hoping to see on the channel soon! :)

Cannonball Run is a great roadtrip movie.
The Grapes of Wrath is topical, again. Or is it just it never ceases to be. But, I can see which way popular opinion is leaning.
An excellent road trip romantic drama/comedy is "Two for the Road" (1967) starring Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney, and directed by Stanley Donen (Singin' in the Rain, Charade). Of course, it's not on Route 66 or even close, the couple driving across France, from Calais to St. Tropez.
I’m surprised no one has said “RV” with Robin Williams and Josh Hutcherson !! (they legit have the song Route 66 in the movie lol )
Oh please watch Baghdad Cafe even though it is going to come in last in the poll.
Did anyone else think we were gonna watch an actual movie of the Route 66 journey? I'd be down for that.
Cars!! yay!! Although I do agree with other comments that Sideways and We're the Millers are great road trip movies.. but I would also like to suggest The Cannonball Run. It's HILARIOUS! And you'll recognize quite a few people in it!! It's actually a trilogy (Cannonball Run II and Speed Zone) but even if you only watch the first one, you'll have a blast. I just thought of another one, RV with one of your favorites!
I’ve only seen the bottom two, but I wouldn’t recommend Rain Man at this time. You need something rousing like Follow that Bird!
I’m choosing Rain Man. Ironically, my parents just watched it last week! (Oops, and also picking Cars! I didn’t even notice it on the list at first! lol)
If Rain Man wins…..you’re gonna cry and possibly needing a hug. Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman put their foot in their performances.
Not a serious contender for the option you posted, but you should check out the movies Road Trip and Sex Drive for funsies.
Well, this was easy! Anything but Cars (which I know will win because 90s kids)
2000s kids.
Baghdad Cafe is one of the great Indy movies of the 80s. Clearly it’s not going to win this poll, but it’s a treasure.
You could always watch the movie Route 66 from 1985. It was actually really good. There was also a popular TV series in the 60s
Stop by my house and I’ll give you dvds and you can check out my cats lol 🤣 https://youtu.be/UQ555t6GKpo?is=zs5k2EoSuYwt7AdW
Cute cats.
Midnight Run is a must!
If you're looking for road trip movies, We're the Millers is pretty funny. Plus you'll get to see the origin of the "No ragrets" meme.
yah know what I'm sayin?
I'm surprised you haven't seen Cars. I thought Disney cartoons were the few movies you saw growing up. If you watch Cars, you should also watch the 1991 Michael J Fox movie Doc Hollywood, either just before or just after. Cars is an uncredited remake of Doc Hollywood, only replacing all the people with sentient cars.
Grapes of Wrath is such a classic movie!
I voted for Cars, but didn't she say she already saw Cars whilst on the Route 66 videos? Or did she say she only knows the characters from the Cars trilogy?
Lost in America (1985) would be a great addition to this poll.
Of course, there is also the Route 66 TV series from the 60s.
Easy Rider is trippy and Rain Man is great as well.
There is also the Ken Burns documentary called Horatio's Drive. A $50 bet that Horatio Nelson Jackson can drive from California to New York in less than three months. This happened in 1903, months before the Wright Brothers first powered flight.
Baghdad Cafe is a really beautiful film, and The Grapes of Wrath is a classic masterpiece.
Do a Route 66 Double Feature, Cars AND Rain Man, it goes with the 66 repetition bit and they're already neck and neck, close if not tied.
Gotta vote for Rain Man. I love Tom Cruise movies, they never disappoint.
Cars is the quintessential Route 66 movie IMO!
Baghdad Cafe is such a weird fucking movie. I felt like it was a dare. And I would love to see your reaction to it.
Cars, the kids animated movie?....okay. There aren't a lot of Route 66 films, so I recommend great road trip movies: Boys on the Side (1995), Mad Love (1995), Sideways (2004), Paul (2011), We're the Millers (2013), Green Book (2018), and Roadhouse 66 (1984).
Boys on the Side and Sideways are both really good. :)
Another great road trip movie is Harry And Tonto, and it has a cat as a co-star!
Cars is a great route 66 movie and fun too
