FOURTH OF JULY POLL

Alrighty - these choices came form a combination of your suggestions and IMBd results! If you don't see your favorite move (like Independence Day, Apollo 13, Forrest Gump, etc. make sure it isn't already on the channel!

I know what many people say that wanted during the live but we still need to vote!

Multiple Choice so vote for all your favorites!

SPOILERS FOR REACTIONS FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE BELOW THIS LINE:

The Jumanji franchise has been so much dang fun! I've seen your cries and YES we wrap up June with Zathura - which was also so much fun. Except, I do kinda roast the Danny kid because he just got on my nerves for some reason. Personally, I enjoyed all of them - I'm interested to find out your takes on the sequels with The Rock and such.

Bound - Amazing. I mean: love, mystery, murder? Sounds like an Ashleigh movie and it was. I know y'all have seen that react already so I'mma just leave that there.

Hedwig was wild fun and surprisingly deeper than I originally expected. My favorite song was probably "The Origin of Love" or "The Angry Inch". The outro is a bit long and, since watching it, I've reflected on it more. I feel like it's one of those movies you think is either ridiculous or you actually sit with it and think about it. I thought about it so much that I actually bring it up again in....

Perks of being a Wallflower. This was the winner of the pride movie poll but after reading your comments, I switched everything around. I am really glad I didn't completely ignore this movie because WOW. If you've been needing big cry - THIS IS IT. If you're needing a little virtual hug - the outro is for you.

The last Monday is June will be for... Anthony Stewart Head. If you haven't seen the news; our beloved Giles died yesterday during to complications with pneumonia. I know I made millions of jokes about being attracted to him, but I just kept thinking about how Buffy and those characters played parts in so many of your adolescence. To some this may feel like losing a TV uncle or dad. I'm so glad I've watched the entirety of Buffy - and in memory of him - I'll be watching REPO: The Genetic Opera. You all have been asking for it for so long I just didn't feel like it needed a poll.

Jassell B · June 22, 2026

Just realized, a lot of these films can be watched for Veterans Day or Memorial Day as well. Films like "Courage Under Fire, All The Presidents Men, Olympus Has Fallen" are more suitable for either one and have nothing to do with the 4th. The only ones that really have historical reference to American history/independence are "Yankee Doodle, 1776, The Patriot"....I think that's it.

J
Jessica Marks · June 11, 2026

Unrelated, summer vacation movies may be fun to do at some point this summer. “Summer School” with Mark Hammond pre his NCIS days, and “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” with Christina Applegate post “Married with Children” are options.

F
Fa7herObliv10n · June 11, 2026

All the Presidents Men- I lived through this and thought we were past this bullsh*t but obviously not….there isn’t a more timely watch at this 250th anniversary .

T
TravizzivarT · June 10, 2026

I know hardly anyone will vote for it but please everyone vote for 1776.

J
Johnny Joyner · June 10, 2026

I am sorry to see the Patriot is so far ahead. The historical inaccuracies are so bad and most don't even further the plot. I know there is a suspension of disbelief that comes with movies but this movies goes above and beyond in ignoring or sugar coating the war in the southern colonies. But I am sure Ashleigh will abide by the will of her fans and if need be I will watch the reaction if for no other reason than I think Ashleigh can make even a movie like this watchable.

D
Doug Adair · June 10, 2026

Is this a continuation of the hatred of the races? Are you also a member of the KKK.

c
cmw0410 · June 10, 2026

1776 is never going to win I know, but seeing as it’s 250 it’s really the most appropriate one for this particular Independence Day.

j
john · June 9, 2026

Oh good lord, not pearl harbor. That movie was an insult.

s
ssb031 · June 8, 2026

Tough list to pick from! But I gotta lobby for The Hurt Locker. It's down there in votes, so it probably won't make it this time, but it really is a great movie. Edited to add: yeah I spent most of Zathura roasting Danny too. Haha

B
Bill Trumpler · June 8, 2026

I'm surprised "Born of the 4th of July" isn't on here (starring Tom Cruise and directed by Oliver Stone, nominated for and Academy Award) . Is it already on the channel?

V
Vincent Perrone · June 8, 2026

Oh man. You didn't include In the Line of Fire this time.

E
Ebony Cameron · June 8, 2026

As an Aussie it makes me giggle that a Fourth of July poll is being won by a movie starring two Aussie actors 🤣 (well Mel is actually American but grew up in his older childhood here and it is also where he began his career)

G
Gary Brown · June 8, 2026

Ashleigh, this poll and Repo are a hard pass for me. I skipped Musical March, and most of these don't scream 4th of July. I think u should do the poll over because i have some better suggestions, imo. The Patriot belongs on this poll, but so does Born on The 4th of July. Also, I Know Wat U Did Last Summer. Without the 4th, the movie's plot couldn't move forward. The incident happens on the 4th and a year goes by and takes place on the 4th, so it's a holiday movie. Here are some more suggestions; Top Gun Mavrick,Red Dawn, White House Down, Sum of all Fears, Amerigeddon( very Patriotic), and the Robin Williams film Man of the Year. So i hope U will see this.

M
Michael Tocci · June 8, 2026

hope u enjoy the Patriot buuuuuuuuut don't watch for historical accuracy :)

M
Michael Parker · June 11, 2026

yeah, truly tragic.

S
Sam M · June 8, 2026

The Patriot is amazing

K
Kamilah Clarisse Debnam · June 7, 2026

Saw All the Presidents Men for the first time this year! Such a good and Important movie. I would love for you to feature this on your channel some day 😊

D
Duane · June 7, 2026

You've watched Zathura? A knock off Jumanji with suggestive incest.

M
Meredith Shivers · June 7, 2026

What?!!!

D
Duane · June 7, 2026

For July 4th, definitely Yankee doodle dandy. It's patriotic and a musical.

S
Steve Friedman · June 7, 2026

The Patriot is basically the same movie as Braveheart, only set during the American Revolution. It's not bad, but Braveheart is much better, and Ashleigh should probably watch Braveheart first. (I don't think she has. At least, it's not on YouTube.)

C
Cliff Brown · June 8, 2026

Agreed

K
Karl Balstad · June 7, 2026

I'm surprised Yankee Doodle Dandy isn't in the lead! The great James Cagney as George M. Cohan singing OVER THERE, GIVE MY REGARDS TO BROADWAY and of course the title song! It's already bad enough that Sergeant York starring Gary Cooper isn't on the list!

V
Voldemort’s butthole · June 7, 2026

I became a fan of Ashleigh because of her Big Fish reaction 😂 so I can’t wait to see Wallflower

J
John Liebling · June 8, 2026

Wow! What a great name you're using on this thread.

A
Atlas Image · June 7, 2026

Anybody here watch the History Buffs channel on youtube? I love it, He goes over historic accuracy in movies and goes over what a good or bad historical fiction is and how creative liberties taken are ok in moderation. I enjoyed his take on The Patriot. Naturally it seems that any movie Mel Gibson touches (Regardless of his horrible character), gets a couple of things right but paint themselves as the whole truth with title cards at the beginning and end telling you "What happened" and completely mess up the most important things while white washing history. Best thing is to avoid using his movies as any sort of basis for doing your school papers or to educate yourself about these events or time periods.

M
Michael Parker · June 11, 2026

...the other reason why I dislike 'The Patriot' (besides my issues with Mel as a human), is I have a degree in History. *shakes head slowly with closed eyes*

J
Jerome Davis · June 7, 2026

1776 is the only option... it is a Musical, with some comedic moments, and it is about the founding of the country... any other year would be fine to watch any of the others, but this is the 250th Anniversary...

L
Leigh Taylor · June 7, 2026

The Right Stuff is EPIC! That and 1776 are must-sees, but newer movies always win the polls. Sigh.

M
Meredith Shivers · June 7, 2026

Tell me about it!!!!!

F
Flounder · June 7, 2026

If you enjoyed the Jumanji films try “The Zero Effect” directed by Jake Kasdan (Who did the Jumanji movies). Stars Bill Pullman, Ben Stiller, and Ryan o’Neil. First rate stuff.

T
Tyler Foster · June 7, 2026

Yes!

o
old _Navy_twidget · June 6, 2026

I always watch Gettysburg over the 4th's weekend.

E
EJN · June 6, 2026

I know Mel Gibson is kinda trash but The Patriot is a great film when it comes to war movies…I mean a young Heath Ledger?? Come on!

M
Michael Parker · June 11, 2026

Mel is a dumpster fire and the history in the film is horrible.

L
Lynette Cummins · June 6, 2026

Too late for this year but I hope Ashleigh sees Band of Brothers someday.

P
PieHard13 · June 6, 2026

I went for Olympus Has Fallen. It's like Die Hard at The White House. Course, if it happened today, nobody would care and would happily watch the entire place get blown up. Anthony Head-wise - you should ABSOLUTELY watch Ted Lasso, you would honestly ADORE it and you could get it all watched before season 4 starts.

J
Jeffrey · June 7, 2026

I prefer White House Down (2013). It has a few moments of humor and hints of romance and is a much more entertaining thriller with more spectacular explosions.

R
Rosalind · June 6, 2026

I lived through the events portrayed in All the President's Men. I don't want to watch a movie on it. Same reason my dad never watched Apocalypse Now. He was there and it was too accurate.

J
Jeffrey · June 7, 2026

I lived through the events portrayed in All the President's Men as a radio news director and worked on Capitol Hill when the movie came out. As soon as the film ended, I drove to every recognizable spot in movie. This is another film that is such a work of film art, movie acting and pure historical and journalism significance, I believe it needs to be seen by every American. and every movie lover everywhere.

L
Lynette Cummins · June 6, 2026

I'm only voting for The Natural. Robert Redford is so great in it. ⚾♥️

C
Cliff Brown · June 6, 2026

PATRIOT!!! OH MY GOODNESS! PATRIOT! PATRIOT! PATRIOT!

J
Jassell B · June 6, 2026

We HAVE to get to All the President's Men.....it's a crime if we don't!!! AND Courage Under Fire!!!!! Amazing list!

J
Jeffrey · June 7, 2026

I agree with both. An equally powerful investigatory military legal drama is Rules of Engagement (2000) with Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson

E
Echo Moon · June 6, 2026

Oh please watch Yankee Doodle Dandy, if for no other reason than the amazing staircase dance which the studios did not want him to do but he did it anyway in one take. :)

T
Todd Lower · June 6, 2026

I was hoping for the American President

J
Jeffrey · June 7, 2026

Ashleigh has already seen it. Three Monthas Ago.

C
CUI13 · June 6, 2026

I'm pulling so hard for 1776, but The Patriot would also work

e
evil_incarnate · June 7, 2026

How could anyone not love a movie that has the White Shadow and KITT signing in it.

J
John Liebling · June 6, 2026

The Right Stuff is sooooo much better compared to Pearl Harbor.

J
James Sharp · June 7, 2026

Anything is so much better than Pearl Harbor.

M
Michael Taylor · June 6, 2026

Anthony Head was amazing in Ted Lasso.., I really hope you get the chance to watch this masterpiece of TV. It covers a wide variety of topics while being dramatic and funny.

C
Cal · June 6, 2026

Repo is a heck of a movie to remember Anthony Stuart Head by. I remember digging it a lot. Hope you do too.

L

Was hoping to see Born on the Fourth of July here but still lots of good films

P

1776 will not win, but it should. Hiistorical, fun and great songs.

D
Daryl P. · June 6, 2026

I haven't watched Yankee Doodle Dandy for so long, and it is such a good movie. I'd love it if this wins - I doubt it, but never say never.

S

1776 needs more love!

M
Michael K Montgomery · June 6, 2026

I know Yankee Doodle Dandy will not win, but Ashleigh, its a great movie!

c

We watched 1776 in middle school and it was so dull. I am curious if it would be more entertaining now

S

I remember it airing on television every year. For me, anyway, it's a classic!

A
Ahjnot: The Sesame Street Commentator · June 6, 2026

The Natural belongs more with baseball movies. I still remember when my mother was recording that movie, and I wasn't aware when I ran into the house and changed the channel to Gilligan's Island. Funny enough when she tried again the next time it was on...turned out she didn't have enough tape left. Lol

L
Lynette Cummins · June 6, 2026

That is hilarious. Gilligan's Island was a must see, your poor mom....🤣

K
Kelly · June 6, 2026

Please I need more ppl to vote for 1776. Great musical that stars Mr Feeney from Boy Meets World as John Adams

J
John Liebling · June 6, 2026

Perhaps Ashleigh would be willing to make it an Ashleigh's pick. 1776 is certainly my favorite from this list.

A
AnthoniusWillis · June 6, 2026

oh wow. i can't wait for Perks of Being A Wallflower. i know it's not a pride movie but it still hits every time. i read the book in high school & fell in love with it as well as the movie when i watched it... one of my faves of all time. also, Repo The Genetic Opera 😳. i personally love it but it is definitely a very niche movie that not everyone enjoys. can't wait to see what you think. this is great, i'm having a great time.

S
Skip · June 6, 2026

holy crap does Yankee Doodle Dandy actually have a chance?? That would be everything

T
Tyler Foster · June 6, 2026

Please circle back to All the President's Men if it doesn't win as I feel like it's not necessarily the kind of movie people will think of as "Fourth of July" and may do mediocre in this context, even though it could do much better in other contexts. It is a true story and a journalism movie, perhaps the most famous journalism movie ever made. I think it would be more successful on a true story, investigation, drama, Oscar winner, anniversary (50th), or actor (Robert Redford or Dustin Hoffman) poll.

T
Tyler Foster · June 7, 2026

Pleased, actually, to see it's in a solid second place. Maybe you can watch it as well next month just to see it. Or you could make it a theme month around true stories and pick a couple more to fill out the Mondays in July.

V
Vincent · June 6, 2026

Yankee Doodle Dandy ✅

K
Kelly · June 7, 2026

Another good musical for the 4th

r
rock4u1973 · June 6, 2026
