As far as the story goes, giving it a 7 is a bit unfair. As for me personally, I thought the story was incredibly enthralling and I would give the story alone a 10/10 as well as all the other categories. But I thought you might have given the story at least an 8/10. lol and it is ironic that you mentioned that you wouldn't see it again when this is my 3rd or 4th time seeing it specifically to see your reaction to it. Great movie reaction by the way. You need to keep an eye on Kane Parsons for the future. That kid is an absolute phenom!

The Christmas tree room scare is so good!! And your face when she pulled out the cement handprint 😭😭😭 like, sure! Love this movie, such a fun, creepy little flick. The sets are so insane and off putting and genius, I genuinely can’t wrap my mind around how they did it. And it’s all a testament to Kane Parsons, the 20 (21 now) year old, first-time director and the man who pretty much created the entire Backrooms lore on YouTube years before this movie came out! The script is a little weak at points but I feel Backrooms is supposed to be more of a visual, vibe-centered story anyway. So for once I’m alright with lots of questions and few answers 😅 Little Easter eggs like the shoes that are half melted into the floor in the room with the throne are the shoes that Kat and Bobby were wearing when they were filming Clark’s ad, before they’d even set foot in the Backrooms! It was already remembering them…

This film is such a perfect scary movie for ADHDers and Autistics because it's all lit by fluorescent overheads. Nothing scarier.

I hate to be one of those people but please consider watching Disturbia (2007)

Hey Nat can we get a Avatar Aang movie reaction?

B
Baggie Mark · July 25, 2026

Hi Nat, have you seen that they are releasing a new Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender series (CORRECTION 0 Film), that I think you will like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7b20GRFZBFE There is a new series called Avatar: Seven Havens, but I am unsure what that will be like.

Not a series, a movie :)

42 year old who has worked a cubicle office job before. I was very much looking forward to this movie, genuine horror movies imo are very hard to come by these days, so after Obsession (which I adored) I saw all the hype for Backrooms and thought yay, 2 amazing horror flicks in such a short time. Then I watched Backrooms for myself. I don't get it. There wasn't a single point in the movie where I felt unnerved/uncomfortable/in suspense, mainly, I was just bored the entire time, waiting for something actually scary to happen, and it never did for me. I think people are right, younger generations are much more likely to be terrified by this movie, where as people like me see an infinite weird office space and just shrug "what's new?".

I don't know about boomers, but as a gen-x'er, I can say that the liminal spaces games/movies freak me the f out. I've been alone in empty spaces like that (office buildings with identical-ish rooms) before, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Objectively speaking, Obsession is the better movie. HOWEVER, Backrooms was successful in giving me a nightmare the night after I saw it in theaters. Throughout the night I kept waking up thinking that Captain Clark would appear around the corner of my apartment. Then when I actually went to sleep I had dreams about being in the backrooms, running in just one direction for who knows how long, then getting lost not knowing how to get back. And since the backrooms plays on mimicking reality in a poor way, much like dreams, made my dreams of being inside feel even more real.

Oh my god that is truly horrifying haha

Very creepy. Not full blown scary, but definitely uncanny and unsettling. I also quite like that they don't really explain what the backrooms is, just what it does. It remembers, but poorly.

The amazing thing is realizing just how insanely young this director (Kane Parsons) is, not to mention the astounding self-confidence he shows behind the camera (he turned 21 mere weeks ago). Kind of insane to think that the 2 leads (Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, both Oscar nominees) are literally a full generation older than him. I sincerely hope this film gets an Oscar nomination for Best Production Design. SIDE NOTE: Renate was nominated in the recent Oscars back in March (Best Actress for the Norwegian film SENTIMENTAL VALUE), and that film is also worth watching IMO.

This was such a disappointment for me unfortunately. I felt the first half was pretty weak and I just didn't find anything about it creepy or scary. I wish it had focused a bit more on the isolation an being trapped in such a vast empty space rather than just the "run away from the monster" it turned into

Among the 2 breakout horror movies this year, ie, Obsession and Backrooms, I think Backrooms is the better directed/ shot movie (with better sets, as they had the budget), but Obsession has the better standout performance and more rewatchable imho (and also a modern movie miracle, making 400 something million on a sub-1-mil budget).

Happy Feature Friday Nat. I've heard that this movie is pretty creepy and, like Obsession, it's struck a chord with the horror crowd. Looking forward to checking it out with you now 😬 Post: hmmm. Not quite sure what to make of this. The problem with these high concept movies is always how they are to resolve them. I can see a pattern in all these A24 horror movies, in that they always set up an intriguing premise, but come the mid-point, they have no idea how to wrap them up in a satisfactory manner. I appreciated the vibe of this movie's opening, it's unsettling locations and at least some attempt at an explanation, but overall I can't help but feel that the vast, open spaces with nothing in them was a metaphor for the movie itself.
