Interesting that the Commandant refers to himself as a bystander. He’s almost more since he’s actually helped TWO people on their own paths to greatness; Dr Yeager and Eren. Admittedly both were accidents, and one was initially sabotage, but he got them there regardless. Maybe that’s what he meant, anytime he comes close the universe steals his “glory” and gives it to someone else. That he’s not supposed to be important so he’s not important… Which is a pretty selfish angle. Interesting characters all around
He felt like none of his actions changed anything. Despite his efforts he could only watch events unfold, no matter what he did he felt like he had no impact on the outcome. Almost like fate just didn't factor him into the story and worked around him instead. That's my interpretation of his feelings at least. I don't think that's necessarily true, he just didn't have enough conviction to manifest his desires. He could have stopped Eren for example, he just didn't commit. He probably could have gotten Carla too, but we never see him really try. He waits and hopes for her to notice him instead. But as I'm typing this I'm like.. Could he really have done either of those things? Maybe he was right and things were already set in stone?
I'm ok with less Buffy for a while. I took a hiatus from Patreon for a year, so I have Andor and Severance reactions to catch up on.
i know buffy people are getting less content but im glad AOT is untouched and still getting two episodes this week. not to make a dub vs sub debate but im so glad you stayed with sub. in season 1 when eren didnt have full control of his titan to lift the boulder armin asked him why he wanted to venture beyond the walls even if it meant certain death and erens response was "because i was born into this world" the same reason carla said in this episode. in the dub however, they changed erens reasoning to "because the world is my birthright" and carla's reasoning the same here, disconnecting the two unlike the sub. to be fair with keith, its hard to work as hard as you possibly can, to have good intentions and in the end there are people who are just naturally better at the things you do. and its not like he completely quit, he made sure to train the future of their military which is a very important job. i guess since youve seen the episode and the next, the reason why i think this OP is great is because its melacholic. its like a feeling of wanting to go back to childhood but unable to and i think child eren trying to get the attention of a disinterested eren is such a nice touch in the theme of the song.
