FIRST TIME WATCHING: RoboCop (1987)

Happy Feature Friday Folks!

This one was so much fun! I had no idea this was a Paul Verhoeven film when I got into it. What a pleasant surprise haha.

For those who are curious, I watched this on Prime Video. As always, thank you so much for your support here on Patreon. Until the next one, stay golden! ✨

can anyone confirm which cut of this movie was reacted to?

J
Jamie · April 24, 2026

It's sort of jarring watching the final showdown and a person talking about Robocop not being able to run. Feel like you weren't at all in the movie. Hey ho, that's how reaction videos go.

This is huge! Prima Gold watched what put Alex Murphy on the map!! HUZZAH! LONG OVERDUE!

Explosion56 · April 18, 2026

I haven't even watched this yet and I'm already laughing thinking about your reactions to this action classic!

mitchhamilton64 · April 12, 2026

nat has apparently never heard of body armor. it is armor for the body and what murphy was wearing when he was shot. obviously it has its limits which no doubt was reached during the hail of bullets did enough to keep him alive long enough to at least reach the hospital.

H
Haw Haw · April 30, 2026

with body armour if there's massive blood explosions and soda can sized bullet holes then the armour didn't help

This movie's such a jam Natalie! I'm excited that you're watching this! :) lmao, I just hope that the amount and level of violence isn't too much for you.. lol - MANY feel that it is. xD I grew up watching movies like this though - so I'm in the other boat that thinks this movie is over the top violence but entertaining. xD That's my take on the movie at least. I've honestly really been looking forward to this reaction! :) I hope that you enjoy this one. Ha! I'm glad you understand the humor in this. It's VERY dark but also pretty darn cool at the same time. lmao!! Your face was WILD when ED209 came onto the screen initially! hahahaha This next bit here is SCARY!! hahahaha, YUP, it growled!! LMAO Your face after was hilarious!! hahahaha, loved this! No idea who Tim Dillan is supposed to be. I'll have to look him up after this is over. Yeah.. this next bit is pretty fucking wild! Looking forward to seeing how you take it. It's great that you enjoy the camp in this! xD That's nothing - hope you're ready! :P lmao be patient Natalie. xD BAHAHAHAHAHAHA.. I love your reaction to this! xD <3 hahahaha, so damn great! More than just his arm.. xD This was made in 1987.. damn incredible stuff if you ask me! You'll find out later on! :) YUP! That'll happen soon. :D xD There, you got it! I wonder when you'll comment on the "I'd buy that for a dollar!" dude. hahaha lmao! I love how you're in support of him. xD lol, really put a smile on my face. hahahaha, that Nuke'Em game is incredible! I love the revenge scenes in this! They feel so damn good seeing all of it happen. lmao, bear in mind - I first watched this at a very young age! hahahaha "You're not dead, dead.. no - just MOSTLY dead." lol, it's a bummer that the line "Bitches leave!" slipped by you. hahaha, that line always makes me chuckle a bit! Yup! "Bye, bye Bob!" Glad that you're enjoying this movie Natalie! This one isn't for everybody - but I'm happy that you're enjoying the ride. :) It totally was a challenge to move around in, Natalie! I'm glad that you're recognizing that. Because of that he obviously isn't super mobile. 8.2 mpg xD I'd like to rate this right below Starship Troopers. Yup! Glad that you remembered the newscasts from Starship Troopers. :) 8.5 on sound made sense! I'm glad that you took the how much money this cost with your rating! The budget was VERY well spent on this movie. Great choice on the 10/10! :) 7/10 on acting I'm not fully on board with but I understand your take. 7.5/10 on story works, I'm not bummed about that rating at all. Your other scores make the movie seem more like an 8 to 8.5 though, but I won't argue with ya. :) Overall I'm very happy that you reacted to this one Natalie! Another one of the movies from my childhood! hahahaha, I'll always feel Terminator > Robocop. :D We've got to have her watch Terminator vs. Robocop! That would be a ton of fun! :)

Good Lord.

Justin Hormann · April 11, 2026

Oh boy! Can't wait 'til I have time to watch this! Yeah, I saw this "way too young," too. The part I remember giving me nightmares as a kid was when the "toxic waste man" gets creamed by the car. Kinda strange thinking about it now, considering all that's ALSO in this film. Now we got Robocop! That means there'll be a reaction to "Our Robocop Remake - Scene 27," right? You'd have to google the Vimeo link for it, it's not on Youtube (for obvious reasons, lol).

J
Justin Hormann · April 11, 2026

PS: I'm PRETTY SURE Paul Verhooven appears in the film, very very briefly and not well-lit, lol. In the club right after [dude] hurts his foot by kicking Robocop in the crotch, you see a dark shot of a guy pumping his arms up and down very quickly. I think that's him. At least, that's what I heard in a commentary track on the Criterion disc for this film (I haven't listened to a commentary track from crew in ages. I used to LOVE them).

Nolan Hickman · April 11, 2026

As always loved seeing this reaction with you I do hope you watch RoboCop 2 it was also good and it would be fun to watch it with you!

D
Daniel Vezina · April 11, 2026

I remember having ED-209 and robocop on his motorcycle as a kid back then.

R
Roook · April 11, 2026

I saw this way too young when I was a kid lol. Fun fact: The doctors in the scene after Murphy is shot are actual doctors saying the lines

D
Daniel McGuinness · April 11, 2026

God I forgot how tight those last 10 minutes are! Literally over and out 😅 I do love this movie. Paul Verhoven is the satire king tbh, and it’s kind of upsetting how well this movie has aged. From the short, cheery news segments of the worst things happening on Earth, to corporate decision making ruining communities, and the fact that ED209 sucks ass, they know it and they’re still trying to sell it anyway Also fun if you notice, you can hear the OCP exec at the beginning saying they were “moving prime candidates” for the Robocop programme, and Murphy has just been transferred to this department… they basically move ideal candidates to high-risk areas and wait for them to get shot 🥴 I can’t remember how much it weighed, but when in full Robocop costume, Peter Weller lost 3lb in water weight per day and the first fitting took 11 hours A great movie on all counts 🥹 squibs for DAYS

J
Jazz · April 11, 2026

Peter. Weller really sold the robot movements by turning the body first then the head, so good!

j
jamie jones · April 11, 2026

Robocop 2 is also great. The rest after dont exist

B
Ben Wheeler · April 10, 2026

I’d like to introduce you to a little movie called Darkman

B
Brian Straight · April 10, 2026

The director made this over the top in so many aspects of American culture (violence, language, guns, television comedies) as an insult to us. We turned out making the movie something of a classic and turned our culture up to 11.

C
Chet Brusk · April 11, 2026

It's uncanny how Verhoeven can hold up a funhouse mirror to American culture and Americans can revel in the image they see.

T
Thomas Richter · April 10, 2026

A Robocop react video!? I'd buy that for a dollar!

B
Brian Straight · April 10, 2026

Not long, after watching this movie for the first time as a kid on VHS my parents bought a new car, a 1989 Ford Taurus. (Same production generation as the police cars here.) It was a cool experience.

S
Steve Mercier · April 10, 2026

One of the greatest Western-meets-Cyberpunk-with-a-side-order-of-Capitalist-satire movies ever made...or, maybe the only one? What-the-fuck-ever, this movie rocks!

T
Troy · April 10, 2026

I thought I knew what this movie was, because it's been in the pop cultural zeitgeist most of my life, but HOLY COW, I was wrong. I guess it makes sense that I wouldn't have caught many snippets of the movie, I can't even imagine how much blurring and bleeping you'll have to do for the YouTube edit. 🤣

B
Bobby B · April 10, 2026

Final Verhoeven Sci-fi film then is Hollow Man, its worth a watch for Kevin Bacons performance if nothing else.

B
Bobby B · April 10, 2026

yeah so ive seen most of the Paul Verhoeven sci-fi films Robocop, Starship Troopers and Hollow Man when i was a kid while my uncle was babysitting when mum and my aunt went out for bingo. they where slightly edited for TV but honestly i still probably shouldnt have been watching them lol. actully saw Rocky the same way now im remebering that was how i saw most of my favorite films.

K
Keith Jacobsen · April 10, 2026

Robocop 2 is pretty fun too Nat, but you can stop after that. The rest are trash.

B
Bobby B · April 10, 2026

Robocop 2 and Highlander 2 are the best examples of that uncut pure colombian white stuff working its magic on screenwriters before Pablo went down. kind of like Stephen King writing IT they just remeber buying a big bag of the stuff and woke up 2 weeks later with finished screenplays

B
Brian · April 10, 2026

Got the Unrated extended version of Robocop I see. It's why it was excessively gory and graphic with that death scene for Murphy and the board room scene with ED-209.

m
mitchhamilton64 · April 10, 2026

is that unrated extended? i feel like thats the only version ive ever seen, aside from tv edited ones.

B
Ben Wheeler · April 10, 2026

I just noticed another reactor, Popcorn in Bed, is Beta testing a Chrome extension that automatically keeps the reaction video synced to the movie or show. I think this is a game changer because I watch with ads except for Amazon Prime

D
Danishprince · April 10, 2026

Perfect movie to start the weekend!

D
Darryl Low · April 10, 2026

Happy Feature Friday Nat. Been looking forward to watching this movie with you all week 😊 This was a fun reaction Nat, and I really enjoyed watching you being grossed out haha. The ED-209 robot was done with Go-Motion. When they use stop-motion, every frame is in perfect focus, but with Go-Motion they move the model at the same time as photographing the frame so that it adds motion blur. This was how the dinosaurs would have been done in Jurassic Park before they experimented with doing it in CG. Thanks as always for your awesome work this week Nat 💛

L
Luis Enrique · April 10, 2026

So glad you watched the OG version

d
djKENTO · May 21, 2026

do you mean OG as in not the remake or did she watch the theatrical cut?

T
Troymk1 · April 10, 2026

This was actually filmed in Dallas. The city hall playing the part of the futuristic police HQ Robocop’s wife in the film was my neighbor here for some years. I’ll have to watch this with you Natalie
