Poor Koda 🤒
the only VR i wanna play is a full dive VR. Like you can lie down and enter the world, but you will be in first person view doing all the action. So have you watched Sword Art Online ? xD
I'm sure someone has said this, but read the book this is based on. There is soooooo much more and the 80's nostalgia is better explained.
If you read the book, the nostalgia is off the charts. I think that's why the book was such a huge bestseller, because it was chockfull of 80's nostalgia callbacks and references. I believe someone did a count and it had well over 300 mentions of movies, shows, games, songs, and other entertainment properties.
That wasn’t Arctic Monkeys that was in fact a Joy Division shirt haha but both great bands though
You should check out the book it's awesome! Movie is fun and quick but the book is spread over time, it's much more cohesive and they explain how the world work in depth.
i think a big thing you missed which raises the stakes a lot is the in game gold can be used for real world money, the Aunt's boyfriend talks about winning money for a new house, spending their savings for said house on gear, credits and gold are pretty interchangeable, so zeroing out is a much bigger deal with your money has been invested into the Oasis Its also how the loyalty centers worked, they built things in the game for IOI to sell to lower their debt Great reaction as usual, loved watching you react to the shining part especially haha
It's a fun movie but compared to the book it's much more silly/cheesy and the action is turned waaay up. I'm currently reading the second book so your timing was impeccable 😄
Ooh, another stream of consciousness reaction. Wow, etc.
The book actually has a lot more Spielberg movie references that I think Spielberg removed/toned down in the movie, probably because he felt awkward about patting himself on the back. It's a shame because clearly he was one of the kings of that era. Also, I'm curious if Nat recognized the actress that played Art3mis as Alicent from House of the Dragon?
RP1 came out at the peak of 80s nostalgia in 2018. That's why I enjoy watching it, just a nice hit of nostalgia
You should really listen to the audio book narrated by will wheaton. You will see why its actually way higher stakes than you think.
I've always like this movie. Always fun to just sit back and enjoy. You should check out "Love and Monsters". It kinda has the same feel to me. Not to serious, and fun to just sit back and watch.
This is one my favourite comfort movies. I am glad you had fun watching it :)
"...he loves poultry....so I've been giving him some fish..." (paraphrasing) 🤣🤣
Spielberg Straight told me an audience at south by south west not to go in expecting an amazing film but rather a really fun popcorn experience
Great reaction! BTTF has been forgotten lol.
VRChat is 20% like The Oasis. The difference being that the currency isn't more popular than every other currency on the planet and the entire planet isn't playing it, also not a frictionless experience.
Spielberg and Kubrick had a friendship towards the end of Kubrick’s life and they were working on the movie AI together. It’s Spielberg trying his hardest to make a movie like Kubrick. It’s quite an interesting watch. The most recent Shining film is Doctor Sleep which I’d LOVE for you to react to. It’s from Mike Flanagan who does all those big ensemble Netflix shows like Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, House of Usher and so on. He’s a tremendous story teller and Doctor Sleep, especially the director’s cut is one of my favorite films of the past decade. It’s special.
Doctor Sleep’s Rose the Hat is played by Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica in Dune (2021)).
Been waiting for you to watch this its my favorite gamer movie think you'll love it
This is such a fun movie, all flaws aside. It's overflowing with that quintessential Spielberg magic.
I'm so happy you watched my fav movies, this movie took me back to my young days. They are currently making Ready Player Two and S. Spielberg signed on to produce it. The spell that turned on/off the Orb of O. was from the Movie Excalibur another 80s movie about King Arthur and Merlin.
Hi I subscribed just a week ago, has Natalie ever talked about watching Breaking Bad?
I really enjoyed both the original novel and this movie when I saw it. This is a very fun junk food movie, and I think it's as good an adaptation of the material as can be asked for. I really recommend checking out the book. I worked at a movie theatre when this first came out and the standee for this film was one of the coolest I've ever seen. Two major changes between the book and movie that I was sad to see, but I understand why they did it. First, the novel takes place over the course of several months to over a year. It added a sense of scale to the Hunt, having the characters need to sit and think for extended periods of time to figure out the next clue (the keys and the gates they opened were separate challenges in the novel). The extended time between figuring out the clues also made sense when you consider that Halliday likely didn't show the details of the Hunt to anyone, and so didn't have anyone who could sanity-check how hard the puzzles were. In the movie, it all takes place over basically a long weekend, which really shrinks the scale. But I get it. Secondly, the novel has several references to Spielberg's films, due to his impact on pop culture and especially in the time period the story is nostalgic about. When Spielberg was making the film adaptation, he actually elected to remove a lot of the references to his own work, as he was worried it would be too much like tooting his own horn if he had kept it all in.
Nat got, like, three references 😄
"It's all like, really old music." Nat, as someone born in 1980, you cut me deep on that one. Also, this movie is... fine. I enjoy it, it's entertaining, and I've watched it like a dozen times. But regardless of the OVERALL quality, I can safely say, seeing this in the theater: that opening race is easily one of the most spectacular things I've ever seen on the big screen. It was INCREDIBLE to behold.
Well as someone born in the 80's even you gotta admit that a piece of media being roughly 40 years old is well.. old :D
Got my snacks and drinks lets go.
I love this movie, but my favorite part about it is that Steven Spielberg has been in the film industry for so long and made so many iconic movies that a bunch of the ones referenced are his own. 😂
wow sweet! 🙂 can't wait to watch...
This movie is great, plethora of video game and movie references and easter eggs. Nat the more video games you play and delve into, you'll come back to this and recognize even more. As a seasoned gamer and movie watcher, I myself still catch different things I didn't notice before. Just a very fun movie.
Excited for this one - Not the greatest film but just pure enjoyment :D
To anyone who watches this movie and enjoys it even a little, I highly encourage you to read the book it's based on. There is so much more to the story that there just isn't time to include in a film, and it's a really fun read. Also, the audiobook version read by Wil Wheaton is very good if you prefer that to a physical book.
Totally agree. The book gives a much more complete story.
Hi Nat, I'm looking forward to this one, I enjoy VR so this is my dream lol.. Shame you suffer from nausea as I think you would love the immersion from VR. Thanks for the great content Nae..
Yeah it's such a shame. A Nattie VR playthrough would be so cool. There's so many great games and experiences in VR now
Yay Nat! Happy Thursday. Been looking forward to this all day 😊 Poor Koda. Damn that velcro! Had such a blast watching this movie with you. It's just good old-fashioned treasure hunting fun with a hi-tech twist. I was away on a work trip in Birmingham, and around the corner from my hotel they filmed the post office truck and police car chase from the finale. It was all second unit stuff, but I watched them filming the action, and got to see some of the street sets with all the garbage lying around and the stars & stripes hanging on the buildings. It was so cool to be there on that day. A lot of the location work was filmed in Birmingham. This is one of the rare Spielberg movies that John Williams didn't score. He was working on his other film The Post at the time, so Alan Silvestri wrote the music for this. He also did Back to the Future. And the Zemeckis Cube, which rewound time, was named after Robert Zemeckis who directed Back to the Future. Thanks for an awesome fun reaction today Nat. Great to see you are on the road to recovery 💛
