I read the book just to watch this with you. This episode was my favourite part to read and it was a nice watch as well. I love Rodrigues! Disney must have a different edit from Hulu, btw, because I always end up slightly ahead of you again and again.
I think he made him dive in the ocean a bunch to force him to bathe.
Would really love to see you react to the original version at some point. Toshiro Mifune is so incredible in it. He's one of the greatest actors ever.
Most unrealistic thing about this show is how jacked Blackthorn is for someone who鈥檇 been starving and malnourished for quite some time looool
I鈥檓 convinced Toranaga kept making Anjin-san dive into the water was to make him take a bath.
I love how this show has very nuanced characters. Yabushige is pretty evil with him torturing people to death. But he's also very smart and charismatic. Buntaro was an abusive asshole, but also a very honorable and strong fighter with a pretty cool scene here. And Toranaga is wise and just, but also incredibly paranoid and ambitious. And he has a mischievous side that he showed by tiring John before racing him. It's not just black and white, an evil guy can be charismatic and a bad husband can be a brave fighter.
Also I would highly recommend the podcast that FX puts out on each episode. They interview actors, producers, and other people involved with the show, and they all give great additional insight.
Hi Nat, I'm still loving this show, even if I am struggling to keep up with the subtitles 馃槦馃ぃ
Happy Tuesday Nat. Another epic episode today. Really enjoying the dynamic between Blackthorne and Toranaga. And as always, your observations are keeping everything in check for me. Thanks for a great video today. Excited for the next episode 馃槉
One cool thing Blackthorne is that he's not just fluent in English and Portuguese, but also Spanish, Dutch (which he uses to speak to his Dutch crew), Latin and Greek. So it makes sense that he's so quick to pick up Japanese just by being around it.
I am enjoying the heck out of this show, glad you decided to watch it and force me to watch along ;)
