Behind the Scenes - Building a more flexible skin system
Hello Patrons, Jarrot here, today is a peak at a new test skin using the new skinning system (and designed by Xilev) in Unreal Engine 5.
So the new skin system will allow us more flexibility and freedom in designing skins for the dragons. The 2D artist conceptualizes a skin pattern, our tech artist then translates that 2D image into 3D substance masks, and then it is imported into the engine. The engine then allows us to take the pattern and adjust the colors however we want. This will allow us to make new patterns for each dragon as well as give us more color variations. Skin Crafting 2.0 is going to be much more robust than the current version and we plan to allow skin crafters to have some design input over their eggs through the nest crafting UI.
The skins in UE5 look AWESOME and we know you are going to like it.
Until next time, I be Jarrot.

Is this a new SS model? Haven’t played the game for a while it looks more slender to me
This is fantastic, I am so anxiously awaiting the upcoming updates this summer is a good one indeed. Love the previews
Yes, they do look awesome, and yes, I do like them. I also like the sound of the new skin/nest crafting, even though I currently have no urge to play with it; I'm sure others will have a blast, though, and I look forward to seeing what they do.
omg stop this is too good, you guys are getting me wound up.
These skin variations are going to visually make this game beautiful. Along with the change over to unreal engine 5.
