Development Pipeline: Statistics Series
Stats are what drives a game and are one of the most difficult things for a Creative Designer to get right because stats = balance. Each creature in DoD Genesis will have stats, a lot of them actually. The image you see is a list of all the stats that are randomly generated at the birth of your dragon (low res is intentional to keep it a secret), but it's a lot of stats.
One of the cool features we're adding in Genesis is the breeding system. Breeding allows players to improve their stats through nesting other dragons. A male and female dragon both contribute one of each stat and the egg selects either the father or mothers stat to populate the egg. Dragon genetics are graded F through A+ with A+ and A grades only being achievable with the help of a nurse dragon's special incubation ability (nurse dragons can improve any 1 stat by 2%). Each grade adds a 1% bonus modifier to the stats.
So a health grade of F would mean your health pool is the lowest it can be for your species with a 0% modifier. D- would grant you a 1% modifier, and the highest spawnable grade of A- granting you a 10% modifier. With the help of a nurse dragon, players can achieve a maximum 12% A+ modifier per gene making the Nurse Dragon a very sought after incubator and caretaker of baby dragon eggs.

Very cool, but I can't help but worry that this system is going to encourage nonstop stat farming and minmaxing, and also throwing away the life of a dragon because it "isn't good enough". I hope you have some sort of plan for this to not be the case.
Oooo so that means the system *for* the Nurse dragonw ill be in before the nurse dragon? Smart! Theres Jao using his big brain thinkin ahead
I can’t wait to see this implemented into the game, and the possibilities of different builds for the same dragon. Would there be a way for a dragon to check what kind of stats they have or would it just be all up in the air?
Yes, but not until they reach adult.
That sounds so cool! I'm looking forward to seeing it in action, I really like the fact that statistically you can have so much variation, that will make gameplay so interesting! :P
Oohh Nice! So will all of these stats be visible when nesting, or just a select few (Strength, Resistance, Health ect.?)
