Lore-Writer's Blog: Myths & Mimikors

*Scores of dragons gathered to a hidden cave, deep under the Forgotten Forests. A cave so dark that light itself was not seen. These witnesses would gather to tell their tales, tales of myths and legends, sightings of new creatures and races that others say, do not exist.

A Biolumin lighted the way to the gathering, far below the surface where they were safe from the doubters above. As they arrived to the cavern below, these dragons told their tales to one another waiting for The One to arrive. He was wise beyond any of them, and his voice was that of a powerful dragon, one that sounded like an aged Flame Stalker, some say it was one of the Ancients, the White Dragon even, but none had ever seen him, he arrived as he left, hidden in the shadows, speaking through a crack in the rocks.

He roared to signal his arrival. The gathering listened in anticipation. Then he spoke.

"For centuries, eye-witnesses have spoken of a mysterious race of flightless dragon, unlike any other dragon ever seen that dwell in the Forgotten Forests. These dragons are said to be covered, not in scales, but in fur. Are they dragons or something else? Sightings of the Mimikors are as common as giant bipedal monsters made of stone that breath fire - so very rare, yet those who have seen them, swear they exist, and those that see them never see them again. These mythical dragons, known as Mimikors, a name coined by the eye-witnesses who say they can imitate the sound of any other dragon. Critics say the story-tellers have eaten too many mushrooms, some say they have dragon sickness, but one thing is certain, all those who see them give the same account of what they saw. But what is it that they say, you ask?

These Mimikors are said to be covered in fur. Imagine a dragon covered in fur? Impossible. Dragons have scales or skin and sometimes feathers, but never fur.

These Mimikors are said to be dragon-riders. Imagine a dragon riding another dragon or even a wyvern. Do they keep dragons as pets?

One eye-witness spoke of seeing a Mimikor and an Elemental speaking to one another which is preposterous! Elementals do not exist, and if the stories were true, that would mean they are talking to rocks. Talking Rocks? Laughable.

The most delusional account of one of these Mimikors, was the sighting of a Mimikor using a stick to inscribe symbols on a piece of bark, and then give the bark to another Mimikor who spoke as if the bark were speaking to him! Talking bark? Hah!

These stories are just that, stories and myth, they cannot be believed. Furred dragons do not exist. Dragons do not ride other dragons as pets. Dragons with wings can fly and do not need to ride on the backs of other dragons. Elementals do not exist. And bark that has been touched by a stick does not speak.

While I believe, like you, that bipedal Wyverns that eat fish exist, and long drakes that live in the waters exist, and giant worms that live in the sand and snow exist, and monsters below the sea, exist. I am sorry to say that this "mythical Mimikor" that our gatherings have been consumed with of late, does not exist in the Forgotten Forests, nor in any other lands in Jrakhon, the world of dragons. I have spoken."

And with that, The One left, as elusively as he entered. No one saw him, and no one ever has. But they believed him and continued with their stories and tales of other creatures such as Drakes with piercing tails of venom and other such fantastical creatures. But in a quiet cavern, not far from the gathering, The One sat down next to a small fire and took out his stick then began to jot down symbols on a piece of bark.

Mimikor is really cool! It would be great if there were AI dragons to play with if there weren't any other players. I'll send this suggestion via Steam.

It does, it will look like bark when we're done with it, the little stick too!
