The Skin Crafting Possibilities by the Numbers

Hello everyone, today is just a sample image of the options that we hope to provide players with the new skin crafting.

This is the Lava Rock skin. With skin swatches, players will be able to recolor the skin using the skin swatches passed down from their parents.

The popular skin crafting in Dragons Legacy was simply this, I took the iconic skin and recolored various regions using our old shader. This was very tedious and time consuming. After the skin was finalized, I then had to assign each skin it's own recipe. The maximum number of skins in Legacy would have been 255. And making 254 skins for each dragon would have been a nightmare for me.

In 1.3, players will be able to do this themselves using pre-determined skin swatches inherited from their parents. The total number of skins players will be able to create will be 255 (base skin) x number of skin swatches, which will theoretically be 256. So the max different skin variations that DoD 1.3 will support is 65,280 + the total number of skin pearl overlays. That's a lot of skins.

The new system is coming in 2025 after the Brood Watcher update. I was hopeful we could get it all in in the 1.0 patch in 2024, but game dev takes a LOT of time, even more so when mistakes are made such as new UE5 tech. :\
