Development Pipeline: Dravern Hybrid Stance WIP
While the majority of our team is hard at work on the 1.0.1 update, our concept artists are working ahead to prepare for future content.
Here is concept artwork of the Dravern Hybrid and its possible standing stance. We have decided it will fold one pair of wings like a dragon and walk with the other like a wyvern. Which pose is your favorite?

C
A looks nicer, but C makes more sense. It looks like C could balance the weight in the front.

B i like the best
A, definetly A

I really like A or C but I would like to see an option. We’re both wings are on the ground.
I like B just because of the way the front wing is folded up. If you could apply that to C I would like C’s design a bit more.
Im a Kickstarter and I think A, or C but B and D looks unnatural
I think A looks really good
I think you guys should get the Kickstarters opinions on this too before picking a final pose, since it's their dragon they helped make. I'd personally go with D though.
C look the more realistic balance wise. Otherwise he looks too top heavy and walking with wings tucked under just look awquard and cumbersome. Great work you guys, I know its still far pff but the Hybrid is the dragnon im looking forward to the most x3
I am leaning towards C
I would say A, it looks like it would make the most sense
I like D a lot
A and B look like they'd be overweighted on the front, while D looks like the lower wing set would get in the way while walking. C would make most sense imo
I really feel the design of B or C is a more natural look for the hybrid while the others like D look very wrong and uncomfortable.
B and D could work very good, I have been studying zoology for years, complete with anatomical books on animals, if a creature that walks like a bat had 4 wings and not 2 it would work well in both B and D, but especially in B, because the second wings do not bother the first
I feel like D is my favorite of the selection, however I almost feel like both sets of wings should have a similar stance, mirroring the stance of a six legged insect, perhaps
I like C since it looks like it just has four limbs and 2 wings. It also looks the most natural since it needs to support it's upper body rather than the middle. I was thinking maybe for it's running or walking animation it could use both wings while on the ground some how
C
A, C, and D look strange enough for me. I would recommend looking at Cloudjumper (or Stormcutters) From HTTYD(how to train your dragon) for a better objective?? if not fourwinged wyverns
For me A and B are weird for the body Gravity it look like it can fall head first, then C is weird to look and seem not confortable also it can cause problems to move first wings to walk. So for me D seem the most logical and beautifull, and it can make cool animation to sit, like sit and put down on flor second wings to relax it.
Option C makes the most logical sense for land stability and flight purposes. Having the front wings be the ground support makes sure that the dragon dosent look front-heavy when walking around. Resting the secondary set of wings along its back / the top of its shoulders is both a relaxed natural stance, as well as leaves the secondary wings easily ready to spread and help with liftoff while the primary wings are still being used for a running takeoff. IF you are open to other suggestions though, The Timekeeper makes a wonderful point that a 6-point stance would fit this dragon perfectly. I feel having a more.. Spider walkstyle an interaction with its dual set of wings would look the most natural (look up jumping spiders, and how they use their frontmost set of legs).
Option D feels more natural and comfortable, like when people rest their hands by their sides or in hoodie pockets to relax the shoulders too, since that's for it's standing, it doesn't make sense it would stand really uncomfortably with raised wings, it would be relaxed and tucked
I think B looks most natural to me
I really like the combination idea. Using the pink wings for standing an walking in the B design and then having the blue wings come over while running like in design D. I think that would fit the Dravern really well and take advantage of both sets of wings
Option B, but having it rest its blue wings more on its back like the pink wings on C. The folded resting wings are then angled back and out of the way. I'd imagine it would get tired from holding its other wings up all the time. If no combo can be done, I'd go with C.
I think (B) for the standing and (D) for the sitting would look the best
I want to say a or b. It feels more natural that the higher wings would be folded to keep them out of the way of the ones used for walking, instead of them having to go over the folded wings. Either way, interested to see how you guys tackle animating this.
I understand the intention to drive home the hybrid-ness of the hybrid, but do we really have to limit our options to a four-point stance? Is there some good reason the hybrid's uniqueness can't be emphasized with a six-point stance? Yes, that pushes the problem of functionality to locomotion, but aesthetics-wise, locomotion options are so much less of a problem to resolve than creating a stance that looks natural and comfortable. Hybrid or not, there's no reason a four-winged wyvern WOULDN'T move on the ground the way a two-winged wyvern would; this goes especially since the size of the hybrid would mean more mass, which would require more support. A six-point stance makes sense and eliminates the issues in every single concept pose offered here. If there really needs to be a balance of dragon and wyvern traits, let's find some other quality in which we can reduce the wyvern influence in favor of the dragon. Not everything can be exactly equal all the time, so we don't have to try to force it. Given the options presented, however, I'll go with A, as that seems to be the least problematic of four problematic design choices.
Hey whats about you can have all just switching betwen them all and dont waste all off these good ideas , i would love it if you could do that and i know thats probatly alot i ask for .
i like the B make it look ready for battle
I like B
I like C most. Somehow, at least at the angle in the picture, seeing the two arms next to each other like in A and B feels off to me, doesn't look as nice. C is nice because the pink wings neatly fold away behind the blue wings
How about combining Options, between B. and C. having the pink wing in option C be in the position of option B.
C looks the best to me!
I think C is best. The weight is best supported and with D, the second wing might get in the way while walking
Yes
I think A or C would work best. The other two seem very cumbersome. These at least give the dragon room to walk. I prefer C a little bit more since it gives priority to the front arms, which are important if you need to slap someone without having a wing in the way 😂
C or D, but as they are it looks like the tucked pair of wings would get in the way or be uncomfortable. Maybe have them tucked more tightly like a bird? not sure
interesting awell it could work like that too.
while B, and A look ok. Option C look honestly the best and its more natural for walking and supporting it weight.
A or C the others look uncomfortable and just not natural
I think A or C look the most comfortable. B and D look like the wings are in unnatural position and would hurt the hybrid while it walks - B would make them hold the second pait of wings up high all the time, and D would have to keep the second pair of wings folded tight to not get in a way of the first pair of wings while moving.
A Or B
D. is uncomfortable position, how would it fly with two sets of wings, would be like a butterfly flapping both simultaneously, or would be more like a dragon fly flapping mottion?
Maybe they could do it like httyd stormcutter( since it’s basically the same thing looks wise)
I think A or D 😄 This guy looks great! I bet he will be a lot of fun to work with! 😄
My vote is A or D, Now that we got a good look at the model I don’t see a way to do C without clipping the other set of wings.
C since it looks unnatural to me for the wings to be under the first pair like that
That exactly what I thought
A all the way
I'm thinking C or D
C : would be cool if the tips of the pink wings touxhed the ground Something similair to ss
Honestly "A" is my favorite.
d
A and B look nice
I think I like C the most. Looks most balanced
I agree 👍
