Crochet update!

I did a few more granny squares last night to along with a square of double crochets to practice a little bit more ✨
I also did a color change with one of my granny squares. It's definitely pretty messy but it's a start 😅
Any advice for color changing a little easier would be much appreciated!

My mum crochets a lot, so I asked her for advice. This is what she sent: General advice: if changing colour in the middle of a row, do it at the end of the stitch, rather than the beginning - i.e. for the last stitch before you want the colour change, bring in the new colour for the final loop. That's neater. If you're doing amigurumi (basically going round and round in circles) there are two different ways to do it. In one method, you finish each row with a slip stitch into the end of the row. If doing this, you'll get a much neater colour change if you crochet into the back loops only on the new colour row. The other (generally easier) method uses continuous rows (i.e just going round and round in a spiral). Colour changes here are trickier because you tend to get a 'step' or 'jog' at the join. There are a few different ways to avoid this: look up 'jogless colour change' or 'jogless stripes' to find them. Hope it helps :) (looking very cool so far! :D)

Oh yeah color changing is really hard to wrap your head around when starting out. I will say that for myself watching YouTube tutorials and shorts helped a LOT with figuring out what to do when I started crocheting. Bella Coco has a good tutorial on an easy way to do color changes! It's called "Quick And Simple Color Changes Mid Row | Pro Crochet Tips". It gives very nice straight color changes

I also wanted to add that your tension is looking really nice! Your stitches look quite even, especially on the double crochet square you did 💖
