YOU WERE ABSOLUTELY ON THE MONEY ON YOUR KEYS TO VICTORY
Was watching Ewing vs Wellmaker and noticed how he was kneeing the head super well from the standing front headlock and I was like “why the hell don’t we see more of that shit?!” <- that’s my question
Jack, own a small kickboxing and boxing gym with amateur of varying degrees. What are three fundamentals we can hammer to death that perhaps other gyms aren't doing?
Jack. I’ve known of the existence of Coach Barry Robinson for a while. He strikes me as a very articulate person who has found a few things that work and as soon as he sees them he forces reality to adhere to his ideas. Like a smarter Dom Cruz. I cannot for the life of me stand to read his lengthy salty ass posts. Have you encountered any coaches who’s message is similarly grating even if they might be slightly correct?
What’s the most obscure ruleset/martial art you know of that you think could produce a high level mma fighter?
Anything on last weekends Polaris that caught your eye??
Will we ever get more boxing history episodes or mma history episodes?
Would absolutely love to hear some of your favorite mma fighters who aren't in the ufc? Ive been having a ton of fun watchibg fighters like Avazbek Kholmirzaev, Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu, and Salahdine Parnasse. These fighter certainly have flaws, but they use a lot of interesting techniques that I feel could give established superstars some real trouble.
Jack, are you a long boi or a short king? Depending on which, what are your favourite techniques?
If they wanna have a card outside in some old nonce's backyard, why didn't they just go to little saint james?
Good day, Jack! What do you find to be the most common barrier of entry into striking competence? I teach some striking at my local gym and find that no matter what approach I take, there are always a handful of people that movements just don't click with them. It's peculiar because I can watch other folks absorb things and get a little bit smoother every week, where as these usual suspects just fuckin flail about and ask if they're ready to spar. Perhaps they're missing an athletic base? Or grew up on computers and iPad? Thanks for your thoughts, regardless. The Doo Ho Choi of being a Patreon Boi. Bless.
What effect will the liberal use of deet have on the fights?
It was just revealed that during the broadcast they will go through the history of the US. What % do you think is going to be PR for the Trump regime?
What’s the move for a guy in JDM’s position? In successive fights he hasn’t had answers for low kicks, let alone the wrestling of Islam. When your style has gotten you the belt but it’s putting you at risk of getting figured out, is it better to adapt with the team you’ve got or seek radical change?
What is your favorite national boxing style (soviet, mexican, cuban) and which style would work the best in mma?
I don't think Gaethje has much of a chance against Topuria, but I am wondering if I'm the only one who is confused by why, for someone capable of very technical performances, he looked like a madman against Pimblett. Technical Gaethje would, I assume, have a better chance against Topuria than haymaker Gaethje, who throws so wild he slips and falls.
Hey Monsieur Jacques Slaques! Just passing by to ask what are the easiest ways to unbalance one's opponents. I've seen many training videos in which it is claimed that the important thing is engaging in your own terms when your adversary is in disadvantageous positions. So, how can I easily achieve that?
How to pivot in MMA? I've seen how Jose Aldo turns when he gets chest to chest, and Ilia pivoting & shoulder rolling off his jab. I was taught to step & pivot but feel this is very slow... but no step makes me feel in the firing line. Your answers are always appreciated.
How much of a chance do you give Kyle Daukaus against Bo Nickal? He's a southpaw and has the threat of a mean d'arce, which could give Bo trouble.
Do you think Jeffrey Epstein is going to be smiling up from hell to watch the white house card?
Hey Jack, are there any upsides to a breakdown in technique for striking, grappling, or mma as a whole? One thing that comes to mind is throwing a long lead hook where there isn’t a 90 degree bend in the elbow to have more range on the punch
Who cares less, a hungover road worker or the UFC ?
If you were tasked with coaching Tony Ferguson (the undefeated boxing champion) to come over to MMA for one fight, who's the best fighter you think he could beat and what is the gameplan?
What can the average journeyman learn from Rico Verhoeven's brilliant performance in what was supposed to be a mismatch?
Have you seen any of Mona Kimura's fights from K1? I don't recall you ever talking about her but she is sort of a meme fighter being called the real life Chun Li. She constantly spams teeps and sidekicks and will constantly stand on one foot yet her opponents seem completely powerless against it. Thoughts?
Repeat question that you liked from a few threads ago. You've been covering mma for a long time. How has your content and skills evolved from when you first started to where you are now? I’m not familiar with anything you wrote before 2019 so I can’t make a comparison. Two examples of growth I have seen- are my friend from uncrowned drake riggs who started out as a sherdog writer of basic news, has since written big deep dives on obcsure mma stories like Megumi Fuiji and Rousimar Palhares for uncrowned, and my other friend Ghost (9h6st21) who actually started out using microsoft paint and the photos app to do his analytical videos to now where he is combining animation and analysis. Do you feel like your skills and talents for watching fights and writing about them have seen remarkable growth over the years when looking back at your old pieces? Why do you think most content creators and writers choose not to grow and stay stagnant? I'm not talking about people like Garrett Kerman that are lazy and use AI, im talking about content creators that just do the same interviews or write pieces with no visible growth in their style.
On the subject of sports washing, what is your favorite example? I feel like Rumble in the Jungle is the obvious answer but don’t feel pressured to stick to combats sports necessarily.
Hello Jackus 1. Has China become Canada (all their fighters lose at home field)? 2. Thoughts on the no-switch lead leg head kick, both its present/historical and potential use? U mentioned Dricus’ briefly in the past. 3. Would you ever write an article called” Shakur Stevenson and the southpaw jab” or would you fall asleep at your desk?
Or maybe even a wider southpaw jab article including pernell and winky wright maybe?
Oi Oi Slacky boy, I have my first jiu jitsu tournament (white belt) at the end of the month. What would you recommend to focus on to prepare for it. My game is mostly mma orientated with a lot of Sean Brady esque half guard and Craig jones power ride stuff. Do I just try use that to bully my way through these jitz nerds
Cheers Jack! 've been a long time fan but only now decided to ask a question. How much of my life savings should I bet on Topuria knocking out Gaethje? And do you think Pereira will go aggressive against Gane, or he'll try to play it safe like Ankalaev 1?
Hi jack, do you think if pereira wins this weekend that gives him an argument to be the combat sports goat? Not the ufc or mma goat but the overall best fighter for his accolades across glory and the ufc
What holes/openings do you see in Ilia Topuria's game?
If the Money in The Bank was a feature of the UFC. What is the funniest way it could have been cashed in throughout UFC history?
Howdy Jack What type of British accent is yours? And could you do a lil overview of regional accents across the isles of well known fighters? Either mma or boxing! Impressions very much welcome ❤️ Also, very excited to hear you're working on a series about the 100yrs war! Gave "the rest is history" series on it a try but dropped off. Something about British chauvinism (although funny) and "great man history" haha. I wonder tho, is there a deeper socio economic angle to the origins of that war? It seems like a conflict inseparable from divine conceit. Apologies for sneakin 2 questions haha. Hope you'll entertain em! Cheers
What would you build an aging fighters striking offence around?
Hi Jack, you mentioned this guy 'Duan99' in one of your recent podcasts and Ive since become a massive fan of his crazy high octane pressure style. Can you please talk about some of the stuff that he does to make such an approach work in Muay Thai, when its usually alot less common?
Ever watch Turkish Oil Wrestling?
Only when jaying the peen
How much of a "gamble" is to throw simultaneous counters? for example Danny Garcia who used to throw counters at the same time opponents threw, making it much more devastating. It was definitely not speed or power in his case. How to study fighters with that kind of good timing?
not UFC 250, its UFC 2+5+0, Dana White genius once again /s
Jack In the past a number of dominant champions have been specialists in an area of mma. Do you think we are moving away from this, as looking at the champions of today they are all so well-rounded. Thanks
Whats the craic Jack? I've been watching alot of Marcelo Garcia and Danaher instructionals as of late and perhaps im projecting here but can't help but feel like there is a certain aggressive quality to Marcelos "attack the attacker" style compared to Danahers cold calculated systematizing of applying there game. I'm definitely more of a passive player if that makes sense, relying on opportunity in later rounds and was wondering have you ever heard of having to have a certain mindset or aptitude for making a style or techniques work in combat sports. Appreciate the content as always.
Glaze Nate Corbett?
Should we start doing war the "old way" again? I.e. should the army choose a champion to go out and fight the other sides champion, and if we do that, should the champion mandatoraly (not sure if that's a real word) be the leader of that country, like should zelensky fight putin, should Netanyahu have fought Khamenei
Hi jack You mentioned in the Ronda episode how the Armbar has lost its position as one of the most dominant submissions in MMA as it gets replaced by things like the Darce. Is this fall off due to improvements in the overall quality of grappling in the sport ? Or more of a change in approach? And is the mount positions lack of use also a factor? Bring back Fadors downward facing Armbars bless
Hi Jack, Do you have a theory as to why a lot of fighters seem to disregard where they and their opponent are and where they are moving to? (ie. putting their backs to the cage or letting their opponents off the cage when trying to pressure) Is is something that’s actually quite hard to implement in practice? Do you know of any drills that fighters can do to mitigate this? Thanks, Tom
Slack if you were to start your own MMA promotion, with its own rule set, what would you do differently than the unified rules and how would you pull it off without being too gimmicky? As always thanks for all your great work.
Jack. Is it true that for UFC Whitehouse, once a fighter taps the submission is held until Trump gives the thumb up or down like a Roman emperor? If its thumps down the sub is held until death.
What do you think is next for our boy Roberto Soldic, given rumours that he's no longer at ONE?
Hi slacky, I recently realized my dream of becoming a fighter jet pilot, which is great– no complaints. Prior to this, I was a pretty alright kickboxer with dreams of taking some amateur fights and kard chuek fights when I'm back in Thailand again. I put those off to avoid injury so I could actually get into aviation, and was excited to begin my training again; however, I was just briefed on the concussion protocol for my organization which basically comes out to "if you get one you'll never fly with us again." So, the dream of mild amateur success is dead. I'm wondering now what are some goals people have that don't intend to fight that keep them motivated and having fun in the gym. I can still spar, and I'm thinking about doing more grappling, but I worry I'm starting too old to ever have any competition success on that front. I worry that my years of Muay Thai training have gone to waste. The dieselnoi of slacky bois, bless
I flew helicopters and jets for the us navy, now flying for a us legacy airline. I still trained both striking and grappling the whole time. Best advice I have is to just be honest with your sparring partners, let them know you done wanna go too hard. And don’t let your ego convince you to go hard when you know you shouldn’t. And if something does happen, get seen by civilian docs.
rewatching haggarty vs yoza for the millionth time, was wondering what sort of tricks you might like to see from yoza to maybe make his outfighting or distance closes more effective against a tall straight puncher/kicker like haggarty. Roberto duryoza bless
Hey Jackie I've accidentally through circumstance became a coach at my gym. While I love coaching I feel like my own training is suffering heavily. Either I'm a John danaher level coach or I'm getting worse (the most likely thing). Do you have any advice for this?
Would you rather take a full Alexa Grasso frontkick to the stomach or french kiss Josh Hokit
Huge fan Mr slack. Most people say ilia’s biggest weakness is head kicks but he has a very disciplined guard when it comes to head kicks and other strikes. People obvs think this because of the Herbert fight. I think his one potential weakness is over committing to shots which gave the opening for Jais kick and also gave Charles an opening for an elbow. How accurate do you think this is?. Unrelated but a few boicasts ago you mentioned Joshua Van being a pressure fighter and his main motive with it is so he can simply take a step backwards when his opponent fires back. What is the difference between that and a normal pressure fighter. Isn’t that a huge part of being a pressure fighter to have the opportunity to take a step back if needs be? Cheers mate👌
Imo blocks against head kicks are still far from a complete defence compared to the lean backs in Muay Thai. Plenty of people still take significant damage/ get KOd through the guard especially with headkicks but then there is the question of kicking quality in mma
What skills don’t crossover well between being a good coach and being a good analyst? What skills do crossover well between the two?
What are your favorite elbow fighters throughout history?
Striking exits for open stance with the inside foot position? Also could you please narrate all future articles 🙏🏻
As someone who started in traditional martial arts, I never learned about open and closed stances until I started looking into more modern styles years later. In fact, it seems like a lot of traditional martial arts focus very little on the sidedness of your stance. Techniques seem almost always be learned from both sides. Why do you think this is? Its something that is considered basic in modern martial arts that seems to be entirely absent from traditional ones.
Any examples of good half guard players in mma, besides maia or yahya? Also any tips for back control without a body triangle. Can be difficult to stop people from turning in
You recently covered the many benefits of being southpaw. Unfortunately, I’m not a lefty, but it made me wonder, could you effectively operate the same principles from a closed stance? I.e., constantly circle right, hand fight with your left vs theirs, and spam the Yothin double attack + cross counters.
What are your thoughts on Pehlwani/Kushti wrestling and do you think we will ever get a top prospect from India ? Cheers 🍻
There are more people in any given American state training MMA than all of India. It is such a non factor in the Indian sports consciousness there would have to be a major cultural change to see any half decent Indian fighters. Canada and Australia with a far smaller indian population regularly have Indian fighters on the regional scene that are alright.
We all complain about the matchmaking a lot, so rewrite this UFC 250 for us. Pick a new venue and 7 fights from the 7 (proper) divisions. They don’t have to be title fights, but a few title fights might be nice, just to break the mould if nothing else.
First time asking a Question but what fighters should I watch in the UFC and outside of it that are up and coming. Also if you could rebook the UFC 250 What fights would you keep or get rid of and add? Thank you for the content and keep up the amazing work
How far down the influencer boxing totem pole do you rank Tommy Fury vs Eddie Hall?
Jack, Why do you think we don’t see people just straight up pushing their opponent with both hands more often? Over the years I have seen a few straight pushes and they are often effective.
I push people ALL the time, especially on a clinch break, I find if I off balance them with a push I can stop a punch or elbow on the break and get them closer to the fence as a nice bonus.
Not a question just wanted to mention that Kazuki Osaki fought Tenhsins brother and you should watch it. Also Kento finally beat Petch, bless
With Glory probably booking a title rematch between them, do you think Kento can beat Petch in a 5 rounder without previous tournament fights? I have a feeling it will go like the Miguel rematch for Petch
Cut (send to PFLattor). Title Shot. Forces Retire. Max Holloway, Arman Tsarukyan, Kamaru Usman. Choose.
Slacky, was Miguel Torress any good? Or just a product of a weight class and a time with not a lot of competition? How should we look back on his career?
What is the best examples of takedowns + effective ground and pound in modern mma? What is currently grappling meta you like (in mma and in grappling)?
Hes got a video on arman Tsarukyan about this
Cheers Jack! What’s your full legal name, address, annual salary and blood type?
After the last Apex card, is Chelsea Chandler officially the best Chandler in the UFC?
