I always thought "you have to beat the champ" was a cynical take on promotions rigging decisions to keep the belt on their champions
Song Yadong's drive to J Flo would be 9 hours long. I imagine that's how long it takes to drive from the bottom to top of Great Britain

I've heard this comment about shi ming a couple times. In korea and china 'traditional medicine' is almost as hard to get into as regular doctor school, and could be harder depending on the region for China. Traditional Chinese medicine incorporates ultrasounds, x rays, a bunch of modern medicine, and doesnt actually teach stuff like chi anymore. So its quite disrespectful to accuse shi ming of going to a quack school when she would have studied modern medicine for 6 years and was probably the best in her class wherever she went. Although I do get that there's no way western people would know this since there's no comparable branch of medicine at all. FYI i would never go to a traditional medicine doctor by choice, but shes not a chiropractor, and its not nonsense. They learn chem and bio and micro and anatomy and stuff
I’m 30 years old it feels like I’ve been hearing Jack talk about a potential 100 years war series since I was a teenager

Holy shit. The first few minutes of this is like if David Mitchell had a fighting podcast. Which is totally fine because I love David Mitchell.

I know this isn't the question thread, and I'm pretty sure it's not even a question. There are a number of fighters at the highest level who reinvented themselves by upgrading striking. Oliveira Holloway Poirier Even gaethje upgraded eyes Is this the easiest path to reinvent yourself? Is this a hole in the training ethos in MMA? Be okay at everything but then not great at the thing that can end the fight in a moment?
I mean three of the four guys you mentioned were strikers to begin with, it makes sense that improving your A-game would be the most direct way to become a better fighter. And I'd argue that Chucky improved nearly as much in the clinch and wrestling as he did striking.
