I am confused... does anyone of you understand this?

Hi,

by now I am quite used to getting fewer views than before. Yet, recently, I am more and more confused how some videos are more successful than others.
Case in point are these 3 videos, I suspected the Firefly doing pretty well, around 80-100K and the Pz IV vs T-34 doing at least 100K both did around 60K, meanwhile I would have assumed the bunker video to get 100K at best, yet it got 167K.

Does anyone of you have an idea?

Cheers,
Bernhard

PS: Above a "red question marks" means the video performed worse than I thought and "green question marks" means performed better than expected.

I am very behind on your lists. I enjoy the videos a lot when I watch them but I need to focus. This applies to other videos of " dense information" so I don't watch when tired or such. I do like the tank content. In fact it is one of my favourite and I seldom watch other "tank channels" except for the chieftain which is also long time I don't watch

Lots of great points above. The numbers bear out my own experience: I watched the bunker video but haven't yet watched the other two. Oversaturation in tank content is likely a big reason for some viewers, but I don't know if that explains the larger question. I.e. among your patrons, tank video oversaturation is probably a big factor, but among YT viewers at large, it may be a much smaller factor. I think that those issues may be interconnected in that your graphics are a unique element of the channel, and the bunker video title screen very clearly establishes itself as part of your unique style. I hope that helps somewhat, though I have no data to back up my thoughts. The topics that most interest me right now are drones and artillery, mostly because my interest in history flows from a desire to predict the near future. I suspect that making videos for my demographic is not an economically rewarding venture, so please don't take that as advice.

From my Point of view the Bunker video is the one that differs from the 3 Video. I mean who on the History community talks about the Bunker point of view. Tank videos are a bit oversaturated. I think even if we narrow down to Chieftain, you and Bovington you have a pretty good Entry point on the topic. Even for the subtype as the firefly. The comparison I think is a bit special, since it is more then a stat block comparison, but I think a potential viewer has to look for that. One Point I would like to add, I try to reduce my usage of US based services, so I watch less regular YT. It may be a different reason in a general drop, since Buy from Europa is a thing nowadays. I would compare the numbers between channel viewers and not subscribed audience. If the Channel viewers watched all 3 content equally, I would assume that the Bunker Content has a percieved relevance to today. Also if possible a contry distribution analysis would be interesting.

Speaking personally, in the last few years I have been working full-time so I have stopped watching and commenting on many videos owing to time constraints. And eventually I just forget about the new videos from many of the channels I am subbed to. I just have so much to watch and listen to these days. At work I listen to podcasts or to downloaded videos, but there is only so much I can listen/watch in a day. Lastly I can't help but also be fatigued at most Ukraine videos too. If I am any representative of anything, I just think the typical viewer is just fatigued and saturated. I am sorry if this does not answer your question as to why the views are dropping and what can be done, but I don't think much can be done to satisfy the algorithm while staying on this side of respectable.

Thank you, yeah, I am quite fatigued as well.

Same here. The tank stuff is all over in high volume, even if some is not as good as yours. However, the bunker content is much more rare.

I've been subscribed to the channel, but I haven't watched any of your videos for a while (sorry!). Interestingly enough, I remember the soviet bunker video being offered as a suggestion about a week ago, but not any of the others. So it's definitely directly connected to the YT recommendation algorithm, more than actual watchability of the content.

Thank you, no worries!

Along the thoughts of other responders here, the two tank videos are going over vehicles already known and covered a fair bit, but the bunker video is likely not a subject that's been covered to this same degree.

My thoughts exactly. I suspect there are a large number of T-34, M-4 vs .... It's an over done subject.

There is so much tanks content in general, and not a lot of bunker content. I am currently barely watching any YT, and of those 3 I would watch the bunker video. I have severe war fatigue. Not in my opinions are changing, I just want less war related news, use fewer sources, less operational, and pretty much just strategic perspectives. I might watch those tænk videos in 2-3 years time on backlog, but for now I am more interested in WW3, than WW2... Unless something is of niche relevance. I have not watched any of you videos in 1-3 years I think, as I have been saturated with content in general, but I keep supporting, as you do NOT make "idiot challenge meme content", but instead quality, which will still be relevant in 1-3-5-10 years. Or maybe you just make that one specific video I take the time to watch... That bunker one looks real juicy right now tbh 🤣 I am even currently behind on Perun, which is an hour a month and my priority these days 😂 Mainly just get a Denys Davidov in here and there for some Ukraine enthusiasm and news. I believe the market will switch back to your content over time. I most certainly will. But right now, if it has to be about war, then I can barely keep up with the current one. Keep doing what you do, and stay awesome (should not be difficult for you) :)

Yeah, that makes sense. I also have the war fatigue problem, probably a bit differently. Thank you!

Maybe the bunker video is considered more related to Ukraine, consciously or unconsciously, and thus as more currently relevant?

Interesting point.

does it have to do with the change from youtube with the size of the thumbnail? Rex from Rexs Hangar has the same problem

I think that is a contributing factor in increasing the gap between "good" and "bad" videos, since less videos are recommended overall the "winner takes it all" gets even more enforced. Yet, it does not necessarily influence what I consider a "good" or "bad" video.

My guess is that people might think the "Pz IV vs T-34" video would be an overt foregone conclusion, based on people's assumptions. Thereby diminishing public interest.

Good point.
