[Update] Online alias change & more information on Dark Souls II

Hi everyone

Just so that people are aware, I have changed my online alias on ALL platforms to yuiamoroll.

This will be the case going forward. I am usually quite a private person in regards to what is going on in my personal space, however this represents a long-overdue reflection of a new (and much more positive) chapter of my life.

I'd also like to add some additional information regarding the Dark Souls II seamless co-op announcement video posted last week. The feedback has overwhelmingly been very positive and I'm happy to see people excited for the project. The amount of people excited for the mod is really surprising and we have surpassed 75,000 views since it was posted!

Game version

Seamless co-op will only work on Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin edition.

Dark Souls II (original) is not supported, and will not work as it is a 32-bit application (as opposed to SoTFS which is 64-bit)

Soul memory

Soul memory (SM) still exists - so if you get 1,000,000 SM you can still access the Shrine of Winter, however it plays no role in online mechanics.

Balancing mechanics

A handful of people have fairly negative attitudes toward the described "new balancing mechanics" I teased during the video.

Rest assured that all additional changes I have made to the game, other than the core of seamless co-op, are entirely optional.

In addition to re-implementing enemy scaling mechanics (since they only really impact area bosses in the vanilla game).

I have also added a world-tendancy-esque mechanic whereby dying repeatedly without resting at a bonfire makes enemies encountered stronger, with a chance of creating world disasters.

Game purists will be able to have their classic (seamless) co-op experience.

This effect is entirely optional (similar to the rot mechanic in Elden Ring seamless co-op).

Scaling of enemies is also entirely customisable

Impact on vanilla online play

Some other players have highlighted concerns that seamless co-op will "kill" the online play in the vanilla game.

I'd like to remind people that the servers for Dark Souls II are pretty hostile environments. I do not recommend anyone even connects to the Dark Souls II servers right now, as it is entirely possible for malicious players to load custom regulation files (which can effectively brick your saves and get you banned) as well as a whole host of other nasty exploits which require absolutely no input from the victim (just logging in to the server is enough).

Whilst seamless co-op does take away from the effective player-pool for the vanilla game. I think the effect people expect is exaggerated.

Other projects incomplete

Some players are disappointed that other projects (e.g. Dark Souls 1, 3, Elden Ring seamless co-op) feel unpolished, have bugs, or are incomplete.

All of my projects, as of writing this, are playable with some bugs and issues that can usually be resolved by either removing other offending mods, resting at a bonfire together, or restarting the session.

Some work better than others, but I usually do 5 or 10 entire playthroughs with my mods with my friends before I release them to the public, so basic functionality is verified by myself. These projects are huge reverse engineering efforts and can have issues especially when combined with other community made mods (e.g. game overhauls).

Ultimately, developing these mods is a hobby project of mine. I rotate the active project I work on because I like to have fun in my free time and if I'm starting to get bored of a game then I work on something else for a bit and come back to it at a later date.

No mod is abandoned unless I have explicitly said so (in the comments for NexusMods)

Mod compatibility

From testing, I know that purely graphical mods are functional. Such as changes to the lighting and textures.

That being said, so long as ALL players in the session are using the same mods, they should work.

  • Any mods which increase the map enemy count to over 255 will not work - This is not a seamless co-op restriction specifically but a general one - since the game networks entity index references as a byte.

As with all of my seamless co-op mods, mod compatibility is not guaranteed.

Release window

I'm purposefully very vague on release windows for all of my projects. This is just for the sake of my own sanity, as once I commit to a deadline or date I get very anxious if I struggle or fail to meet it.

The nature of developing this mod is that sometimes roadblocks come out of nowhere - such as an unexpected bug that takes days or a week to debug - mainly due to the amount of time it takes to reverse engineer these games.

When the mod is ready for alpha testing, I will make a post / video announcing the exact date in advance of it being playable. I wouldn't expect anything for at least the next 4 or 5 weeks as I still have some issues to work out and I am extremely busy with real life stuff.

If anyone has any other questions leave a comment and I'll try get back to you.

Apologies for the delay in posting - between the recent heatwave in Europe and my CPU AIO exploding, I haven't been on my PC much.

As always - thank you for your patience and a huge thank you to all of my supporters <3

Take care,

Yui

My brother and I both have over a million soul memory but are unable to open the shrine of winter. Bug?

I believe your actually helping the game, having people join the game with a friend who normally would never have touched it, we all believe in you

I've been very thankful for all your seamless co op mods that you have made so far as fromsoft games are very special to me and helped me through some really rough times in my life. Getting to experience them with all my friends and even my ex was extremely enjoyable and I still have fond memories of almost every single playthrough i've ever had on seamless co op. This mod alone on elden ring has probably added about 1k hours to my elden ring playtime and got me to appreciate dark souls 1 a lot more than I used to on top of allowing me to share some of my fav bosses of all time in ds3 with my friends, Dark souls 2 has always been a special game to me and probably my favorite dark souls game despite its flaws so I can not wait to replay it with my brother and my friends, and for that I wanna thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can only imagine how difficult this project must have been when looking through your posts and how long this has taken. Not only did you commit to this despite all the challenges the ds2 engine has posed but you also have a life outside your computer which most likely has given you challenges too which you have overcome. You have my utmost respect and gratitude, even though some would say that these are just mods for some games, to me it's something more special that has impacted my life on a reasonable scale. You should be proud of yourself and congrats on nearing the end of the DS2 mod, and one more time, thank you very much 🙏

Just happy to be a part of this as a witness. These mods are the coolest setup to modernize this game, I’ve been playing this since release! You’re a pioneer!

(Maybe this is a dumb question) but… Does anyone remember or know if Yui said this allows cross-platform co-op?

Y
Yui · July 8, 2026

It does not. Seamless co-op is a PC only mod

S
Servo · July 8, 2026

My wife and I have been playing Dark Souls games for years, however, we always longed for a seamless COOP mode like this, without the annoying network bugs, like the original Dark Souls days, oh man, was that awful. Thank you so much for bringing so much happiness to our gaming adventures. We beat DS1, DS3 and now Elden Ring with your mods, and I gotta say, I've never been so overjoyed. Seriously. Thank you so much. This is quite literally what all we'll probably be doing now.

C
CWTocci · July 6, 2026

People complaining that a reverse engineered mod of a single player game that works nearly flawlessly is WHACKO. My buddy and I will rest 5 times, restart the game, and just get back into it. Fast as hell too. You should be proud af. Some real developed multiplayer games don't work that well.

Do you accept mod commissions?

Generally, no, but it depends on the project.

I think those "some players" need to calm down. You are not beholden to us, please take your time and only work on YOUR mod when you feel like it. Please stay safe with all of the ridiculous heat everyone in Europe is experiencing.

if im thinking right about this change, congrats on making so much progress with that stuff, its pretty scary in my experience. I'm glad you're more comfortable now and your new alias suits you a lot more. thank you so much for your efforts, i managed to get my friend into these games this way because pvp was always something that put them off as a casual player, so dont ever doubt that more people appreciate your mods than the toxic side of the pvp fanbase make it seem. happy end of pride month, but dont let the pride end!

About the state of other projects I just want to say that I'm just waiting on DS3 Seamless Co-op to get some updates. Last time I tried to play it with others (no other mods) the pop-up text boxes would lock my controls. Primary example being when freeing Greirat. Anyway I'm still very impressed that you were able to make Seamless Co-op in the first place and I wish I was as smart and dedicated as you are. I'd donate if my pockets weren't perpetually full of dust and dead dreams. Keep up the good work though! :)

Such an exciting time to be introducing friends and family to a genre that hasn't been the most accessible to those who prefer co-op'ing more than solo-play. My wife's gone from never touching soulslikes to excitedly anticipating ones with either co-op or co-op mod support thanks to your mods. Cheers to you, Yuiamoroll. :)

b
breebo · June 29, 2026

Maybe not the ideal place to mention it but while you're looking here, the DS1 Remastered seamless co-op default config (at least on Nexus) has the scaling set incorrectly, so instead of the recommended scaling it's actually much much higher, so many bosses are taking an absurdly long time to kill unless the player notices the error and sets it to what is supposed to be the default themselves. I think it'd be a good idea to quickly fix this whenever you have the chance as it took a bit before my friends and I realized this was the issue, since this issue didn't exist on previous versions and we got accustomed to only needing to set a password and not look too hard at everything else whenever we'd get the latest version.

There’s something to be said about how as a mod maker you needed to address “pulling players” from the base games online It really puts into perspective how influential your work is in that it has that kind of cultural pull. Great work as always and I can’t wait to play it!

Hey so I've noticed in other seamless co-op games that although enemy HP is doubled, we can still stagger enemies easily just by spamming them together. Have you considered anything about that, or we just leaving it be? ❤️
