Do plants ...FEEL?

Hi Patrons, this is the second installment of the piece I made with Robert Krulwich, that aired on CBS on the 26th of July 2026.

Much of this was shot in the fall of 2025, and it has been ready since Jan/Feb of this year. Due to it's length, (somewhere between a long and short piece) finding a slot for it took several months, we've been due to go on on at least ten occasions, then subsequently reshuffled. But we held firm on the duration as we felt the piece needed it, and we got there in the end :)

Robert was very keen to explain a complex subject, to see how we might approach it in this format. It was a challenging but really exhilarating month or so, where I'd get part way through, then have to re-examine or re-figure something out.

The approach with the characters in the dark space works wonderfully for the comping (which allows each character to be puppeteered separately my me, then placed together in the edit). It does mean however that being sparse with the props and other in-animate elements is somewhat of a necessity.

The large flowerpots served as an excellent narrative tool that could have infinite props stacked behind them, produced when needed, then flung back into the void afterwards. This kept the scene fairly uncluttered, without sacrificing the continuity.

Slightly late post on this, but I'll make up for it with a preview of my next piece dropping later today.
