Bonus Episode 242: Defining RPGs is Impossible — And We Have Proof

Is Elden Ring an RPG? What about Red Dead Redemption 2? Assassin's Creed? Stellaris? We went down the rabbit hole trying to define one of gaming's most slippery genre labels — and the answer is basically a Supreme Court quote about pornography. On this Patreon bonus, Jake and Raz dig into what actually makes a game an RPG, share their personal favorites (Dragon Age Origins, DOS 2, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Elden Ring), and break down the 2026 RPG slate — including Fable, The Blood of Dawnwalker (Witcher 3 director's new vampire RPG), the FromSoftware pirate game leak ("Cerulean Onslaught"), and more. Also: Raz defends the inventory-as-RPG-indicator theory. Jake cannot stop talking about Mass Effect. Both hosts cannot agree on Cyberpunk 2077. The definition question: mechanical vs. vibes-based. Who wins? You'll know it when you see it.
