The Incubus System Chapter 1560. Just Ordinary Lunch I
Larry tilted his head. “You seem pretty relaxed about it.”
I smiled. “Because I am.”
He looked unconvinced.
I glanced toward the cafeteria windows. “Actually, I feel free. I'm going to do whatever I want from now on.”
He stared at me for a moment. Then slowly grinned. “Dude, that sounds like something a villain says before destroying a city.”
I chuckled. “Relax. I'm not planning to destroy anything today.”
“Today?”
“Don't push your luck.”
Larry laughed and returned to his lunch. His gaze dropped toward my empty side of the table. “Wait. Where's your lunch?”
I lifted my tea. “Right here.”
“Are you on a diet?”
I gave him an unimpressed look. “Do I look like I need one?”
Larry snorted. “So why aren't you eating?”
“I'm having lunch with Olivia later. And Camila.”
His expression changed immediately. “Ohhh.” He wiggled his eyebrows. “Lunch date?”
“Correct.”
“And you're leaving your poor, lonely best friend here?”
I looked at his plate. “You have chicken.”
“Chicken doesn't love me, Ethan.”
“Have you tried asking nicely?” I joked.
He pointed his fork at me. “You're a terrible friend.”
I laughed.
Just then, a familiar voice interrupted us.
“Ethan!”
I turned. Olivia was approaching our table, looking lovely as ever. Her eyes brightened when she spotted me, and a warm smile spread across her face.
“There you are.”
I smiled back. “Hey, Olivia.”
She stopped beside my chair and glanced at Larry. “Hi, Larry.”
“Hey!”
Then she looked at me again. “Ready?” Olivia smiled and gestured toward the cafeteria entrance. “Let's go for lunch.”
“Sure.”
I picked up my bag and stood, earning an exaggerated sigh from Larry. I followed Olivia out of the cafeteria. However, instead of heading toward the main entrance, we turned toward the staircase, to the rooftop. Once we reached the rooftop, Olivia took out her phone.
“Here.” She opened a map and showed me a location. “This is the restaurant.”
I leaned closer, examining the screen. “Hm…”
The place was located in a fairly expensive district, surrounded by office buildings, boutique shops, and several luxury establishments.
I zoomed in and frowned. “ I've never been here before.” I studied the surrounding streets. “Looks like we'll have to take a little detour,” I said. “There's an alley nearby. I know that area.” I pointed at a narrow street a short distance from the restaurant. “We can arrive there and walk.”
She smiled. “That's fine.”
I raised my hand.
[You have opened a portal.]
A dark circular gateway appeared before us, its edges rippling softly as space folded inward.
“After you, milady.” I gave her an exaggerated bow.
Olivia laughed. “Such a gentleman.”
“Only when properly compensated.”
“Oh?” Her smile turned mischievous. “And what kind of compensation are you expecting?”
I grinned. “Depends. What's on the menu?”
She rolled her eyes, although the faint pink coloring her cheeks suggested she understood exactly what I meant. “Behave, Ethan.”
“I'm being extremely well-behaved.”
She laughed and stepped through the portal. I followed. A moment later, we emerged inside a quiet alley between two commercial buildings. The familiar sounds of the city greeted us immediately. Cars passed along the nearby road, distant conversations drifted between buildings, and the scent of freshly brewed coffee came from a café around the corner.
I closed the portal behind us.
Olivia checked her phone. “Perfect. It's only a short walk.”
We headed toward the main street. As we walked, I glanced at the restaurant's location again. “Seriously, I've never heard of this place.”
Olivia smiled mysteriously. “That's because it's a little different and special.”
I looked at her. “Special how?”
She hesitated. “Well… you can't just walk in and ask for a table.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Reservation only?”
“You need a special request.”
I studied her expression. Olivia was clearly enjoying keeping me in suspense and considering the faintly mischievous smile tugging at her lips, I had a feeling this wasn't going to be an ordinary lunch.
Then she suddenly stopped. “Oh! Almost forgot.” She opened her handbag and took something out. “Here.”
I looked at the object she placed in my hand. A face mask. “…What?”
“Wear this.”
I stared at her. “Why?”
“Just wear it.”
We looked at each other.
She smiled sweetly.
I narrowed my eyes. I knew that smile. It was the kind women wore when they'd already decided something and were merely allowing a man to pretend he had a choice.
“Are we going somewhere illegal?” I asked. “Somewhere embarrassing?”
“Maybe.” She took out another mask and put it on herself.
I watched her. So she wasn't simply trying to hide my face. She wanted to hide hers too.
“This place isn't exactly suitable for students like us,” she explained.
I paused. Then slowly nodded. Well, there were two possibilities. Either this was ‘that kind of restaurant…’ or it was the sort of ridiculously expensive establishment where wealthy customers spent more money on lunch than ordinary students earned in a month. In the second scenario, Olivia and I would probably look like part-time workers who'd accidentally wandered into a gathering of millionaires.
In the first scenario… Let's just say I might need to reconsider what the word lunch meant.
I looked at Olivia again. She was watching me expectantly. I put on the mask without further complaint.
Her eyes brightened. “Come on.” She caught my hand and gently pulled me forward.
I followed, still wondering what kind of establishment required college students to hide their faces before entering.
A few minutes later, we reached our destination.
I stopped. The restaurant looked… Normal. Actually, surprisingly normal. It occupied the ground floor of an elegant commercial building, with large glass windows framed by dark wooden panels. Several decorative plants stood near the entrance, and a polished brass sign displayed the restaurant's name in tasteful lettering. Just an upscale restaurant that probably served expensive food in portions small enough to make hungry people cry. Through the windows, I could see neatly arranged tables, warm pendant lights, and several customers enjoying their meals. A waiter moved between tables carrying a tray. Soft music drifted through the entrance whenever the doors opened.
I glanced at Olivia. “This is it?”
She nodded. “Yep.”
I looked at the building again. “Looks pretty ordinary.”
“That's the idea.”
