The Incubus System Chapter 1544. Don't Try Removing Her

The Incubus System Chapter 1544. Don't Try Removing Her

The next half hour disappeared beneath several more toasts, shameless teasing, and the slow process of gathering clothes that had somehow migrated to every corner of the VIP room.

Eventually, though, I decided it was time to send everyone home.

Normally, I wouldn't have worried much.

The demons in the Human World were mostly under control now. Random attacks weren't nearly as common as before.

But tonight had changed the equation.

Angels were here. Not one. Enough that my Shadow Ritual had found them scattered throughout the region.

So, yes.

I was personally escorting everyone.

Overprotective? Maybe.

Paranoid? Absolutely.

After everyone had recovered enough to resemble functional members of society, I activated my portal skill.

Darkness split the air.

Camila and Olivi were first.

Their house appeared beyond the swirling black opening, specifically Camila’s bedroom, because dropping half-exhausted women onto the sidewalk at this hour would somewhat undermine my attempt at responsible villainy.

Camila stopped right before stepping through the portal and glanced back at me. “Oh, right. Are you free tomorrow?”

I raised an eyebrow. “That depends entirely on what kind of trouble you’re about to invite me into.”

She rolled her eyes. “Lunch, Ethan. Olivia and I are going out, and we want you to come with us.”

“Just lunch?”

Camila gave me a suspiciously sweet smile. “Why? Were you hoping for dessert?”

Behind her, Olivia immediately groaned. “Mom.”

“What? I’m asking an innocent question.”

Nothing about that face was innocent.

I chuckled. “Fine. I’m in.”

Camila brightened. "Good."

"Text me the place."

Satisfied, she stepped through.

Olivia followed, but not before giving me a long look. "Normal lunch."

I smiled innocently.

She narrowed her eyes.

Apparently my innocent face had lost market value tonight.

Then she disappeared through the portal.

I closed it.

Two delivered.

Several remaining.

This was starting to feel less like being a demon prince and more like operating supernatural ride-sharing.

Five stars, please.

Elenna came next.

She'd recovered remarkably quickly. Slime physiology was unfair like that. Her body had returned to its usual glossy perfection while the humans were still moving like they'd survived a particularly aggressive gym session.

I opened another portal.

Her home appeared beyond it.

Before leaving, Elenna stopped at the edge of the portal and glanced back at me. “Oh, one more thing. I can keep an eye on Nathan for you.”

That immediately caught my attention. “You?”

“Not personally.” A sly little smile touched her lips. “I have subordinates, remember?”

Right.

Reporters.

Elenna’s network could be terrifying when she actually decided to use it.

“I can place a few around him,” she continued. “Nothing suspicious. They’ll just watch where he goes, who he meets, and whether anyone unusual starts following him. Especially anyone with wings and a superiority complex.”

I snorted. “That last category is becoming disturbingly specific.”

“Whose fault is that?”

“Definitely not me.”

Nathan had already been used once by Aurelion. The Light King had bestowed royal holy power on him specifically to throw him against me, and although I had removed that power, Nathan himself hadn't suddenly become irrelevant.

If anything, someone might try using him again.

“I’d appreciate it,” I said. “But observation only. Tell your people not to interfere.”

Elenna tilted her head. “Even if they find an angel watching him?”

“Especially then.”

Her brows rose.

“Just watch,” I continued. “If Nathan meets someone suspicious, if an angel approaches him, or if anything feels wrong, contact me first. No fighting.”

I was practically celestial.

Except for the dark magic, incubus blood, demon throne, and tonight's body count.

Minor details.

Elenna nodded. "I understand."

I kissed her forehead. "Good."

Her expression softened immediately.

Then she slipped through the portal, waving before darkness folded shut behind her.

That left Pearl, Diamond, and Emma.

I turned around.

Pearl was staring at her sister.

That was the stare of a woman whose brain had just reopened an old file and discovered several pages were missing.

"Diamond."

I immediately became interested.

Pearl narrowed her eyes. "I was wondering… How did Lysathiel become a professor at your college?"

Diamond blinked. "I…"

Pearl folded her arms. "You accepted a mysterious woman as a professor. A woman who, according to Ethan, is actually the Queen of the Light Dimension." Pearl's eyes sharpened further. "How?"

Diamond looked genuinely confused now. "I don't know."

Pearl stared at her. "You own the college. You oversee the senior administration.”

“I know.”

“You once rejected a professor because his research record was two publications below your minimum requirement."

"He lied on his resume."

"Sis..."

"I really don't know!" Diamond rubbed her temple. "Actually…" she murmured. "That's strange."

Pearl's annoyance disappeared beneath concern. "What?"

Diamond sat straighter. "I don't even remember hiring her." Diamond frowned harder. "I remember seeing her teaching Ethan’s class. Then I remember asking why she was there. I think I told my secretary to arrange a meeting."

She paused.

Her face changed.

"But every time I tried to call her into my office…" Diamond looked disturbed. "I forgot."

Pearl's expression hardened. "Forgot?"

"Yes. Or something else suddenly became important. I'd start dealing with another problem, and afterward…" Diamond touched her forehead. "It would just disappear from my thoughts."

Pearl turned toward me. "You knew?"

I shrugged. "More or less."

Her eyes widened. "And you never thought to mention this?"

I chuckled. "No."

"Ethan!"

"Don't try removing her anymore," I continued. "Lysathiel is the Queen of the Light Dimension. She's powerful enough to alter perception and, apparently, manipulate memory to some extent. Getting herself into a human college would be easy."

Diamond looked offended on a professional level. "She manipulated my administration?"

"Probably."

Pearl looked equally annoyed. "And that's why you never asked how she became a professor?"

"Pretty much."

Pearl stared at me. "But you never mentioned it either."

I laughed softly. "No."

"Why?"

"Because it wasn't worth mentioning."

That answer clearly offended both twins.

I slipped my hands into my pockets. “With the kind of power she has, she could probably do whatever she wanted. Her status is basically the same as Lilieth’s.”
