Seven Sins System Chapter 890. Payment IV
Seven Sins System Chapter 890. Payment IV
Barry pressed his back against the door.
Darren looked between us.
I looked at all three of them.
They looked at me.
There was a moment of silence.
Then Darren grinned. “Yo, Doc.”
His gaze moved over my horns.
Then my tentacles.
Then the black traces of demonic energy still floating around me. “Is that your Halloween costume?”
I blinked.
Apparently mortals had collectively decided this was the day to insult my species with plastic horns.
“Sick,” Darren continued.
Ion’s eyes lit up. “You look like a real demon, Doc.”
Barry made a noise.
Not a word.
More like his soul trying to leave through his throat.
“G-Guys…”
Ion turned. “What happened to you, Barry?”
Barry pointed at me with one shaking finger.
“Don’t tell me you’re afraid of his costume,” Ion said.
Barry’s lips trembled. “That’s not his costume.”
Darren laughed. “Oh, c’mon.”
Barry looked at him desperately. “That’s a real thing.”
Silence.
Darren slowly looked back at me. Then laughed again. “No way.”
I smiled.
He relaxed instantly. Bad instinct.
“See?” Darren said, walking toward me. “It’s realistic, but it’s not real.”
Barry whispered, “Darren…”
Darren ignored him. “Look.”
He extended his hand toward one of my tentacles.
I watched.
His fingers got closer. Closer. And closer.
Then an eye opened on the tentacle.
Darren froze.
A mouth split beneath it.
Rows of teeth appeared.
The mouth grinned.
Not me.
The tentacle.
Darren’s hand stopped approximately three centimeters away.
His face went beautifully blank.
Ion’s fox ears slowly flattened.
Barry closed his eyes. “I told you.”
The tentacle mouth clicked its teeth once.
Darren jerked his hand back. “WHAT THE—”
The three of them opened their mouths.
I moved first. “Telekinesis.”
The lock turned.
The windows clicked.
The curtains snapped closed.
All at once.
Ion inhaled.
Darren inhaled harder.
Barry inhaled because panic was apparently contagious even when you already knew the secret.
I smiled. “If you scream, I will kill you.”
Three mouths shut.
Instantly.
See?
Communication.
Simple.
Effective.
No need for committees.
I walked calmly toward my desk and sat down.
My tentacles spread behind me, lazily occupying half the room like oversized shadows. One rested against the cabinet. Another curled over the back of my chair. The one Darren had nearly touched kept smiling at him.
He refused to look at it.
Wise.
I crossed one leg over the other. “Okay.”
Nobody spoke.
Ion’s tail puffed up.
Darren looked like his worldview had just been thrown down the stairs.
Barry looked like he was reconsidering every life decision that had brought him into this room.
I leaned back. “Yeah.” I gestured vaguely at myself. “I’m a devil.”
Ion’s ears twitched.
Darren swallowed.
Barry muttered, “I knew this was a bad idea.”
I ignored him.
“But,” I continued, “I’m not here to end the world.”
Darren slowly raised one hand.
I stared at him.
He lowered it.
“Or destroy civilization,” I added. “Or eat everyone in this academy.”
Ion glanced at my tentacle mouths.
I followed his gaze. “They don’t eat random people.” One mouth opened wider. “So relax.”
Nobody relaxed.
Fair.
I rested my elbow on the desk. “I simply have a mission here.”
Darren finally found his voice. “What… kind of mission?” he squeaked.
“Classified.”
Ion blinked. “Devils have classified missions?”
“We have governments.”
“You have governments?”
“We have taxes too.”
Darren looked genuinely more horrified by that than the tentacles.
Barry whispered, “Hell has taxes?”
“Of course.” Then I added, “Mamon would personally drag the economy back from death if taxation stopped.”
None of them knew who Mamon was.
Probably better.
For a couple of seconds, nobody spoke.
Morning sunlight leaked through the edges of the curtains. The ordinary sounds of mortal life continued, blissfully unaware that three idiots were standing in front of a demon lord trying not to piss themselves.
I leaned back in my chair.
They looked at me. My horns. My tentacles.
Their faces were practically overflowing with questions.
I could see it.
Darren’s pointed ears kept twitching. Ion’s fluffy tail had swollen to nearly twice its normal size. Barry kept rubbing his palms against his trousers, probably trying to decide whether praying would help or make the situation worse.
I sighed. “Speak.”
Nobody spoke.
Darren swallowed.
Ion looked at Barry.
Barry looked at the door.
I narrowed my eyes, giving them a death glare. “Speak.”
That did it.
All three immediately retreated.
Not walked.
Retreated.
They practically scrambled toward the door and huddled together like three baby animals discovering a predator had entered their enclosure.
Darren grabbed Ion’s shoulder.
Ion grabbed Barry.
Barry grabbed the door handle.
The door remained locked.
For a moment, they stood there hugging one another, six terrified eyes fixed on me.
I stared back.
One of my tentacles tilted its head.
Well. It didn’t have a head.
But the eye and mouth moved in a way that suggested it was deeply entertained.
Darren’s voice finally emerged. “P-please don’t kill us.”
Ion nodded violently. “I don’t have much flesh!” He grabbed his own arm and squeezed it, as though conducting a last-minute nutritional assessment. “Mostly bones!” he continued desperately. “Look! I’m skinny! There’s barely anything here!” His tail puffed up even more. “I probably taste bad!”
He pointed at Barry. “Barry tastes better!”
“HEY!”
Barry immediately shoved him.
Ion shoved back.
Darren grabbed both of them before they started a proper fight.
“Ion, what the hell?!”
“I’m trying to survive!”
“BY OFFERING ME?!”
“You have more meat!”
“I AM NOT MEAT!”
I slowly rubbed my forehead.
Eh, mortals.
These were the creatures who had somehow learned to manufacture an ancient hybrid capable of poisoning both angels and devils.
And yet these three couldn’t maintain a survival strategy for thirty seconds without trying to sacrifice Barry.
I huffed. “I already gave you permission to speak.”
They froze again.
“If I wanted to kill you, I would have done it from the start.”
Darren blinked. His ears rose slightly. “Uh…” He looked at Barry. “He’s right.”
Barry nodded slowly.
Ion frowned. “Wait. That’s actually true.”
