[We Were Just Kids] Progress Report - 6/24/2022 (+Minor Update)
So, it's certainly been a minute since I've done an actual full progress report. Unfortunately, this one's probably going to be shorter than the average one. As you'd expect, there's not much to say beyond some fresh renders at this point.
It's been a crushing month for me at work, so rendering has slowed down a bit. Getting a bit of extra time off because of it, which I suppose is a nice bonus. Anyways, onto the important bits.
- I'm currently at 108 renders or so for 0.3a. 15 of which have gone through postwork already.
- For scenes left to do, I'm currently working on the barber scene (technically prior to that where Jason picks up female protag in Golf Cart.). Should have that finished relatively soon. After that, I still have to do the school scene (Jada/Male protag rerender will be done in 0.3b as it'll be animated.), along with the scene where Alessa calls Luca about female protag, the coffee shop scene where Luca/Lukas talk, and a couple one-off renders. That'll do it for 0.3a, 0.3b will likely take considerably longer to get out as more work will be done.
- I have yet to start integrating imagebuttons for the artists/musicians used in the VN, shouldn't take super long to do irregardless, though I'll likely do it gradually through updates until I'm caught up.
- I also haven't gotten to the issues some pointed out in the last release (specifically with the names defined.), should be a quick fix, though.
That's about all I've got for now, at least on We Were Just Kids.
So, what I do mean by 'at least', then? Well, I've been quietly (and slowly) chipping away at a side project in my free time. Just something to take away the monotony of working on one project all the time, and so far, it's coming together quite well. It's quite a bit different from We Were Just Kids in the sense that it's not nearly as dark. More touching on redemption and overcoming hurdles, but as with any story, there's challenges and inner demons to fight.
There's still a way to go on it, however. Still have a lot of rendering to do, still have writing to do, and still have graphic work to do. Currently it's just on the side, as I said above, to break monotony - and I have no intention of slowing down releases for WWJK's (depending on the popularity of it, I may alternate releases, but that's about it.) 0.3a and 0.3b. Those are going to be released as planned, and then I'll go from there. As it starts getting closer and closer to being ready, I'll start posting more information for Patreons. While maintaining a development log somewhere else, so I don't clog up your feeds with minor updates (may start a basic af blog, or just a thread on F95. Maybe both. Maybe neither. We'll see.). Edit for bold: I'll be doing consistent update posts here, as that seems to be the consensus.

I'm intrigued about these changes. I thought the current version of these scenes were quite good. I hope you're not too hard on yourself. The quality so far (renders and story) has been fantastic.
Well, speaking objectively, the entire first release basically needed to be rerendered. I wasn't especially happy (especially later on) with a lot of the lighting, and the compression only made a lot of smaller issues more noticeable. And now that Photoshop allows WebP, it makes my life a bit easier as I can just save it out as a WebP instead of converting. The scenes that are being edited started feeling more and more contrived the more I went through it, especially the park scene with the sex toy (not sure how Patreon feels about certain vocabulary, so I'm keep it vague on purpose). The fact that they barely know each other, and the scene comes following a near fight ends up not making a whole lot of sense. I feel like this would be a good spot to slightly reveal some of the female protag's past while allowing Reagan to test the waters of how far the female protagonist is willing to go. Then following it up with a scene (or more) in 0.4. The other scene with Reagan and male protagonist in question will more or less be the same, just a bit longer and Reagan offering to 'assist' male protag. Same goes for the bathrooms scene with Lukas. Mostly the same, just rerendered with some phrasing and mood changes (specifically his willingness or unwillingness to do it based on player choice. Mostly flavor text for that, though.), along with the option to skip the scene entirely while also choosing the resulting action. I try not to be too hard on myself, as I'm aware I'm probably hypercritical of thing most users likely won't notice unless it's pointed out to them. But a lot of this just stuck at out as things that needed to be reworked in some capacity.

Infact I'm kinda totally on the flip side I prefer to get the updates here. If I'm paying to be here this is where I prefer to look for info. I can't stand f95zone or discord for that matter. They both just turn into random nonsense with people who contribute nothing. At least here it the conversation stays on topic and progresses forward. I don't care if they're minor or not I would rather see it here. To me it just shes progress and effort that work is actually being done. To me you need more public posts to show some stuff off. It's hard for people to want to contribute if they look at a page and can't see anything because it's all hidden behind pay walls. Lastly speed is more important to alot of people vs the newest prettiest settings. I don't care what other crap you hear this always at the top of their list. If was you I would s
I'm also working on a side project but not as MrKnobb... It's tough as my main game comes first and demands ALL my time. So... good luck on the second venture and We were Just Kids... ps. I'd advise you to stay away F95 as a dev. It's become toxic.
F95zone is trash as far as input goes butch of cheap asses mouthing off all the time.
