[We Were Just Kids] Progress Report - 2/6/2022
Damn. . .long time, no update. Nothing's wrong, the day job has been a grind is all. That doesn't mean I haven't been working on WWJK at all, though. Probably going to be another short progress report, to be honest. It's mostly been rendering.
- Since the last progress report (24th of December, I believe?), there's been 227 or so renders done (not including the animations.), putting the total at 446 or so. Only one scene has animations (the only sexual scene in this release so far.). Animations are time consuming, and I've been busy with work/life things. 0.3 might not super sex-heavy, but I might be able to fit one more in before I finish up rendering. We'll see. I'm not going to force sex/sexual content into WWJK just for the sake of adding it.
- The story for 0.3 is more or less the lead-up to the talent show. There's a lot of story and character development happening, which sort of explains the lack of sex. There's a bit of exploration on the moral psychology of bad vs good, and where that line is drawn. Can a bad person do bad things for a good cause, or perhaps better said, good intentions? Probably not especially obvious in this release, but it'll make more sense later. There're also the dots of a certain character's past starting to connect, further emphasizing the overarching idea of the world being small present throughout the VN.
- I still have a fair bit of postwork and code to do, the latter of the two being fairly quick as I only have to insert the images and variables. The writing for this 0.3 has been done, though I still need to check for typos/grammar issues.
- Much like the last progress report (thanks again, m0us3r.), I've gotten some help/pointers/etc from a number of users. This time Hordragg, a compressor/user over at F95 helped me finally find the answer as to what was causing Reagan to act as if the park scene happened regardless. I feel kind of dumb, seeing as it was probably something I should've checked a lot earlier.
What it essentially boiled down to was that I compiled 0.2 for Patreons, noticed that I forgot the if/else variable for said scene, but never recompiled with the fixed (more like completely forgot, but we'll look passed that.) variable. And since I fixed it within the code and played via the Renpy launcher, it worked fine. Thus, not being able to recreate the issue. I'll be checked over all the variables again just to be safe that I haven't missed any. I'll be reformatting most of the variables as well, so the bad news of finding it is that you're going to have to start over again. Hopefully this (or the redux of 0.1) will be the end of that.
- As usual, some more preview images above (that haven't gone through postwork). Still have some more rendering to do, along with postwork, but 0.3 shouldn't be too far off. :)
Thanks for all the support thus far!
