Looking Towards The Future

Hello everyone,

We're excited about the idea of expanding our offerings with new product lines that run alongside our current range. However, we're still brainstorming the best direction to take this expansion.

We'd love to hear from you about what types of projects you'd find intriguing and would like to see us explore.

Here are a few concepts we're considering:

  • Classic Fantasy Role-Playing miniatures

  • Science Fiction Role-Playing miniatures

  • Gothic Punk Horror Role-Playing miniatures

  • Science Fiction Battles

  • Tolkien-Inspired Battles

  • Martin-Inspired Battles

  • Historical - Antiquity (Greece, Rome)

  • Historical - Medieval - Vikings

  • Historical -Napoleonic Era

  • Historical -World War II

Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we're eager to develop projects that you're genuinely excited about. Let us know your thoughts!

P.S.: I'm restarting the survey to enable multiple choice options.
P.S. 2: Any additional comments or suggestions beyond the survey are welcome.

Legend of the 5 Rings series?

I second Oli's suggestion! Kislev and Cathay concepts please as per Total War W*rhammer!

O
Oli · February 29, 2024

Can i suggest developing proxy ranges for Kislev and Cathay! GW announced they are not looking to bring these to the tabletop and the community is asking for them (they literally have lore pages in the new rulebook, getting expansions in TW Warhammer3, and there are loads of home-brews and older kislev rules, these two races would do sooooooo well)

i cant vote is the poll closed?

R
Roger Liarte · February 26, 2024

I would love to see you expand your fantasy miniatures, maybe renew your Lizardmen? 😜

V
Vincenzo Gatta · February 26, 2024

I voted for 4 things, too many tasty choices on the menu 😁

Historical and Tolkien inspired

David Novák · February 26, 2024

Maybe you will be hate me. But i think this poll its little bit wrong. Because everybody imagine different view. Whats Classic Fantasy Role-Playing miniatures? For me its D&D. Not Mordheim or Warcry or GW RPG. Whats Science Fiction Role-Playing miniatures? I can imagine only GW RPG from W40k and Start Trek RPG. Its Science Fiction Battles W40k or something else. Sorry for that, but i think, when this poll must be little bit more specific, because everybody imagine something else. Personaly i vote for Tolkien, because its sad, when great game like MESBG dont have support of GW and have old models.

I think you've understood it very well, and so have most people. This isn't binding or implying anything. The only thing I aim for with this is to get a small idea of topics you're interested in, and from which we have a stronger communication base to start. But I find it very interesting to know your perspectives. You are a very diverse audience and you have points of view that we hadn't even considered.

Oli · February 26, 2024

Warycry or Mordheim model proxies would be great (for the classic role playing miniatures)

R
Reid Zalewski · February 26, 2024

I think a series of retro sci-fi figures would be an interesting creative break from our usual style, and your eyes for detail would make such a range particularly stand-out.

P
Painting Knights · February 25, 2024

some "Martin" inspired figures would be great ! some difirentnt sculpts compared to the cmon ones would be great ?

L
Last Sword Miniatures · February 25, 2024

It was definitely the part that excited me the most, and I must admit, I've experienced a bit of disappointment...

S
Saviny · February 25, 2024

I think you excel at theatrical display of regiments. That it what separates you from other creators. It would be best to focus on those „theatrical” displays of miniatures in a group. The theme doesn’t matter I suppose? As long as you play to that strength.

L
Last Sword Miniatures · February 25, 2024

That's a trademark of ours, partly inherited from my love for historical miniatures. Whatever we do, it will be present in one way or another.

J
Jacob Danielson · February 25, 2024

A switch to MESBG offerings would bring that community over which is definitely not insignificant. We're especially into 3d printing because of the non existant GW support. And I dont think you'd have to change your style that much

L
Last Sword Miniatures · February 25, 2024

I've thought about it many times, but if we were to do it, we'd be much closer to the path of books rather than movies. Also, I think the scale chosen is very poorly suited and doesn't allow for spectacular sculpture. Those are the two points that hold me back the most.

E
Even · February 25, 2024

If you ever consider making a fantasy football team I'm sure it would be well received too. Your posing skills would really shine there

L
Last Sword Miniatures · February 25, 2024

To be completely frank, it's not a game that excites me personally, which makes it harder to create a good product. Also, in terms of the market, it seems like there are already quite a lot of people producing pretty good products.

A thought to consider - what about 60-80s style fantasy characters/heroes? Opens you up to a broader swathe of creative options than say a single established system (Martin/Lord of the Rings) and gives you scope to do stuff that's still fantasy but with an old-school style to it as opposed to more modern/newer designs (which even Tolkien has kind of leaned into with the modern films defining how a lot of people now see the characters and world). You could go full armies or characters/heroes and it gives you something that's fresh and different for the 3d creative space

L
Last Sword Miniatures · February 25, 2024

You're making it tough for us! XD It's a small market, and you have to be well-connected to make it work. One of my best friends, Bard Games, is into it. It's definitely complicated, to say the least, and standing out in the technical aspect is hard. A bit of ruggedness is often part of the style.

P
Pierre Sommet · February 25, 2024

D&d and warhammer minis begin to be a little boring due to many creation of talented company and sculptors who made them on mmf or patreon. Can you makr orher propositions ? I really enjoy are entries in other fantasy universe, like the michael moorcock series of Hawkmoon. Just see the potential of ganbretan beast masked or mutant armies, or antical magical minis from the lunar empire in the glorantha universe. The Gw Aos and warcry range give some interesting entries of original concept too.

A
Alexander · February 25, 2024

Commercial viability is obviously not a consideration when you look at the vote tally. The absolutely saturated (and then some) fantasy rpg market gets most votes? Still people that want 40k, despite the 100 designers that already do this? I hope Last Sword seriously considers commercial viability in their choice, I would hate to see this new adventure drag the quality/quantity of the current patreon down...

L
Last Sword Miniatures · February 25, 2024

You won't notice a difference in quality because a new team will be assembled to tackle the project, so no resources will be lost from the current one. If anything, having more sculptors could be a positive aspect. What really sets us apart from many companies is that, despite having several sculptors, they are all permanent, which gives our range a great continuity and allows them to know very well what we do and what we want.

Vikings, Tolkien and Napoleonics.

M
Mooseworks Plastic Soldiers · February 25, 2024

FDM miniature printing has vastly improved. Perhaps consider a support free model range and expand your terrain.

M
Malhorme · February 25, 2024

And wwii, even if it is already quite busy, we cant get enought of it. Finally, role palying mini set in ancient greece! I want this: lead a amazon small party against a persian outpost!

M
Malhorme · February 25, 2024

Role playing minis: i love individual minis with character and options.

S
Scott Woods · February 25, 2024

I would personally love to see what you could do with the many 40K Imperial Guard regiments...

N
N Wood · February 25, 2024

Hopefully the classic fantasy ones will work well with Frostgrave!

T
Tonny · February 25, 2024

I would prefer a faster design schedule for your current patreon. So the waiting times for i.e Fallen Lineage, Nevarra (duke on hippogryph), more wood / high elves would be shorter instead of adding another patreon. Anyway I voted for all the historical stuff, Middle Earth and Classic Fantasty.

C
Cristian Cooney · February 25, 2024

I recently discovered HarnWorld (via Republic of Tharda KS) and their descriptions of the multiple different kingdoms’ military, religions, magic schools, tribes, Groguns (goblins/orc), and medieval inspired bestiary would provide endless sculpting inspiration. And since HarnWorld is rules agnostic multiple rule sets can be used. I plan to run both RPG and tabletop battle campaigns in it.

B
Bhaal72516 · February 25, 2024

I would be highly interested in 10mm Napoleonic ...similiar in quality what Cromarty Forge is doing with ist romain range

D
Duncan Gledhill · February 25, 2024

I fully respect your desire to branch out, but what you are doing at the moment is fantastic with flavoured twists on GW armies - please don't stop with this theme, you guys are doing amazing work qnd I love it

L
Last Sword Miniatures · February 25, 2024

It would be a new team, nothing that affects what we're already doing.

D
David · February 25, 2024

If you do historical stuff, it would be fantastic if it's compatible with the fantasy range - the kitbashes would be amazing! Also, if doing antiquity or Vikings, adding mythological elements to it woukd be really cool. Otherwise, I feel there's already enough purely historical stuff out there. Meanwhile, if you do more fantasy but simply draw more heavily from antiquity or viking or other pre-modern historical eras, you have much more creative freedom

W
Will Reynolds · February 25, 2024

Please keep doing what you do as well ❤️‍🩹

L

Ww1 - 1920's inspired fantasy setting could be interesting

B
Brian Orban · February 25, 2024

I think there would be customer interest in High Fantasy-Inspired Battles.

L
Last Sword Miniatures · February 25, 2024

Could you be more specific, Brian?

T
Toggers · February 25, 2024

gothic horror - but also include Napoleonic mix for silver bayonet warbands

T
Toggers · February 25, 2024

guess you have to think about how that option would effect you workload/return, individual character minis and small units as opposed to regiments

R
Richard Winters · February 25, 2024

Please not more Tolkien, middle earth stuff it seem like every one and his uncle does it, it would be nice to see more historical stuff from saxons to late medieval

D
David · February 25, 2024

I agree, there's already so much Tolkien stuff. Excepts oliphants, you can never have to many of those! 🐘

E

L
Last Sword Miniatures · February 25, 2024

No, estamos plateandonos un nuevo equipo de escultura y ver que camino decidimos para el. Pero no afecta en nada al equipo actual.

D
Douglas Craig · February 25, 2024

How about something like the people, nations, monsters of Elric of Melnibone?

L
Last Sword Miniatures · February 25, 2024

I like Elric, but I'm not particularly passionate about it. Our dark elves were heavily inspired by Melniboné. However, I don't see myself capable of tackling a project of that nature right now. I would need to do a lot of reading beforehand to be able to do it justice.

Curious to see Tolkien mentioned alongside Classic fantasy because Tolkien inspired so so soooo much of what we today consider classic fantasy. Personally I love what you do for fantasy already and I'd love to see you expand into doing more and more of what you already do. Perhaps using resources to bolster your monthly releases with more models or get more armies out or do more kickstarters to release larger blocks of armies in one go. That said if you wanted to branch out in a slightly tangent creative direction then doing heroes and RPG style models for the various factions you've already developed (and ones you will make in the future) would be a really neat way to do something different with named characters, heroes and such within your world setting whilst having them tie into your regular armies. Even if they are just used as alternate sculpts for leaders/troops in armies it gives people who are existing fans something to collect and also take your models from wargame to RPG; plus you can flesh out the story of your own world setting and more!

L
Last Sword Miniatures · February 25, 2024

Tolkien, in my view, has very strong historical foundations, which Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) lacks. D&D is closer to what I would call hyper-fantasy. In general, all the fantasy that originates in America is much more exaggerated than European fantasy, and that's where the difference lies. What we're considering is forming an independent team and looking for sculptors who are passionate about those periods. Venturing into developing more of the same is what I often tell Tom. Ideas flow and need time to settle. If we keep spinning our wheels on what we're already doing, it will become redundant, and that's something I want to avoid. The pace we're maintaining is the right one to allow us to continue being creative.

D
Deturnation · February 25, 2024

I'd be interested in WW1 actually, there is not much to choose from in physical, only 3-4 companies and there is only 1 for 28mm specific in 3d print, that has like 20 designs. 30 Years War sounds also good to me. But from the list I'd go with Napoleonic then.

L
Last Sword Miniatures · February 25, 2024

You know how tough the historical market is. There's little I can tell you that you don't already know :)

T
Turlough Lennon · February 25, 2024

If you did some.middle earth I would die from happiness

L
Last Sword Miniatures · February 25, 2024

My biggest concern is how people will react to changes from the movie versions.

S
Shaun Watson · February 25, 2024

Fantasy Napoleonics like Flintloque & Temeraire etc

R
Riccardo Thiella · February 25, 2024

A mix between fantasy and historic whould be a great game changer. Flintloque, for example, for those Who love fantasy and napoleonic (Temerarie saga has sold well). Peloponnesiac War Bronze Age genasi . Ww1 orcs trench troopers. Ww2 Elven paratroopers 30 years War swedish Giants and goblins .

D
David · February 25, 2024

Yes!!!! I believe more fantasy but departing from the typical medieval setting and drawing more influence from different time periods would be awesome! I'm not sure how I feel about approaching the modern era though - too much variation would make it too much of a mish mash. Maybe Napoleonic era should be the cut off and more modern stuff it's own thing
