Elven Helmet 1/1 scale.

Hello Guys.

Today's post is very different from the usual ones. We have a new project in our hands and I would like to consult with you.

We are probably going to create a 1/1 scale Elvish helmet for our stand, with which people can take photos at events. And we thought that, since we are going to make one and assume the investment of such an expensive piece, we could make a limited edition of a few units if some of you are interested.

The thing is that these are really expensive pieces. And making it producible would mean that the cost of the first unit would be almost triple. Therefore, I need to know that there is some interest in this type of project.

A piece for sale to the public would be in the range of 600-1200 Euros depending on the final decisions we make, and how we resolve the last details like the box or the display.

So, I would really appreciate your opinions on this matter

What if you made smaller versions (but still larger than mini size) of the elvish helmet which could form the basis of other merchandise (for instance, a bottle opener, a stubby holder)?

This is not the intention. We are pretty much at the limit of the capacity we have and we don't want to get too distracted. This is something we are planning to do, because we are going to hire him for ourselves. And since we are going to make the main outlay for self-consumption, we thought of asking to see if anyone might be interested. But it is not something that is born with the idea of being something profitable by itself.

I understand that that cost would be for a real one, not the STL, right? I would love to have thee STL (donkt know how much it should cost, tho), to made it some day with FDM.

I would LOVE one! But I'm afraid I wouldn't buy one for that price.... (unless I was rich 💸 💰)

Interesting project but I would not buy it for the price.

Are you having it printed in metal then? I know companies do it for prototype parts, dont see why it wouldn't be possible for a high detail helmet.

As far as we know, there is no technology available that allows for the quality we desire and significantly reduces the cost. If you know of any place, I would appreciate if you could point it out to me so I can budget for it. The techniques we want to use are similar to those used in the armor from The Hobbit. And as I mentioned, they include a significant part which is the cost of the crest and the interior stitching of the helmet, which have nothing to do with the material of the piece itself

Too rich for my blood - sorry.

Sorry, not something I would personally purchase.

That is really expensive for a print . its actually more than a replica made in real steel

L
Last Sword Miniatures · November 20, 2023

It's not a print. Only the first copy is printed. One of the options is to make it in resin with a metallic load. This also involves sewing for the entire interior and the work on the crest. We have also budgeted for it to be made in steel, but it would be even more expensive, and we have many doubts about achieving the level of finish we want for the filigree."

We can sell the STL file, that's not a problem. But this is a project that will be carried out by an artisan, and the idea is to send a product worthy of a movie, completely finished. And that represents dozens of hours of work for each helmet. To give you an idea, just the cost of the helmet's crest, in terms of materials, is about 200 euros.

Same feeling here

As much as i love the idea, i can’t afford one.

I like the idea but agree with Sam. It's seems too expensive

An STL File of the helmet would bei cool, but honestly I would'nt buy a 1:1 Helmet for that price

Sounds VERY interesting. Do you have mockups?

L

Not yet, because depending on whether we make one unit or not, the way of designing it will be completely different. I can tell you that we would base it on the helmet of an officer with two plumes. https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=2014575965224485&set=a.2014574428557972 https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=747472003687109&set=pb.100052729495336.-2207520000&type=3

Personally I’d say you’ve priced yourself out. That’s more expensive than a decent reproduction helmet in steel and combat ready
