Wolf Riders
Hi Guys
We are starting to work on the wolves.
We have doubts about the size. I don't know if this one or something taller.
I also have doubts about whether or not to put armor. I would like to, but I can't find a way to put it on him that is not merely decorative or destroys too much of the animal's anatomy.

I can’t wait
Maybe Armour on the head only? Little bit like stromvermins have.
Demigryph size would be awesome!
- Smaller but stouter than a horse. - No armor… fur serves that purpose. - Riders in light armor - Some wolves without riders would be a welcomed bonus.
I think he should be bigger as the horse. If they are supposed to be the Middenheimer version of demigryphs then they should have a size slightly smaller than them.
I reckon some could have head crests, which would armour a critical spot while also being visually prominent
I think the wolves seem "tough" enough without armor. However, if the point of armor would be to make it cohere to the rest of the army, then perhaps another way to mark them, like an optional scarf around the neck, tail, paw? Or perhaps a collar or ear tag to display a knight's colours? Just an idea.
Bigger than a horse and no armour please!
I think a wolf of this size has a thick pelt and doesn't need any armour. With the size I agree with Reid. The Knight should have light armour to fit the dynamic of the Wolf.
Will there be the wolfs alone too? could use them quite well for my vampire army
My idea is yes. But first we have to see the scale and that the detailing is appropriate. If they go without armor it is easier.
I think slightly shorter than, but wider and stouter than a horse would be neat. Chainmail or Scale armor covering the body and spaulders on the shoulders would be my thought.
Maybe belted around the waist rather than hanging and loose like barding would normally be might be a decent way to keep the silhouette?

It should be bigger than a horse, just a bit smaller than your demigryph knights. It aren't goblins riding wolves.... If the fantasy wolf is smaller than a horse, why would a knight chose it above a prober trained warhorse. So imo it should be fierce, big and strong, that rival your demigryph knights you did before.
Right! and then we can paint it as Clifford xD
Taller? I would scale the wolf down by about 10%. A big wolf is fine, but bigger than a horse? And I would also leave the armour off, they are all about speed and agility right? Armour detracts from that.
Smaller than this, the mounted knight could look ridiculous, don't you think?
Hellos! If you want to include armor that isn’t too overt, I’ve seen other artists’ examples add small pieces to the wolf’s shins, forehead (similar to a horse) and small plates just in front of the rider’s saddle, which would fit roughly over the wolf’s shoulder. Those seem to not occlude much of the animal’s anatomy, but also give the look of “armored” to the mount. Keep up terrific work. These look amazing already.
But in that case it is almost decorative. In reality the problem is that the real canes are designed to protect a horse in which the head is above the chest, but in the wolf the head is very low. The point to protect should be the hump. but of course this covers all the anatomy. And even if it is realistic I don't think it is aesthetic.
