About Equitania

People of good,

We have a question, and we need a quick answer, so I'll make you an expreess poll....

As you know, we are planning to dedicate the month of January to Equitania, as you know.

The theme will be the Grail Pilgrims.

We have thought of creating a chapel as a scenography element that would replace the monster.

On the other hand we had thought of making a unit of pilgrims devoting much more effort than we usually do to a unit, including the reliquary and several minor relic bearers.

But if we do this, we probably won't have time to make a third unit.

I'd like to know what you prefer. Should we spend the time to make a more elaborated development, or should we stay with two units in the style we usually do.

The work will be the same, but the amount of minitures could be less than usual.

I look forward to your opinions.

Anyway, the GW Grail pelgrims were perfect, so hopefully they will resemble more the Bretonnia pelgrims. https://i.pinimg.com/564x/23/59/69/235969350e47f6d8b5db803709bd1829.jpg

It's a bit early to show you anything. So I didn't show you this :) https://www.dropbox.com/s/ud8hm8vwjwibc4u/T3_1.jpg?dl=0 This is one of the possibilities we are considering for the grail pilgrims.

It seems a bit strange to wear the mail above the scapular or habbit. The early military orders had it, before the appearance of the surcoat. But it was under the scapular / monks habbit. Like in this example. Edit: Your example looks imo a bit to clean. Now it looks a bit like a monk that found some mail and didn't reall know how to equip it properly. Either go full lunatic enraged holy crazy warrior monk, with scars and battle damage or more like a stoic pelgrim, but one that looks more like a seasoned warrior. Like the military orders, but with lesser equipment? https://scontent-bru2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/314037186_513414510800073_4259621647687565310_n.jpg?_nc_cat=104&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=730e14&_nc_ohc=rt_1LmXPJBcAX8shpyE&_nc_ht=scontent-bru2-1.xx&oh=00_AfBI9hD1zSVW_omOtDlSF3RQobyQudOlZe1_Ib6gJELQ6Q&oe=637A931E

Nevermind, peregrine is Spanish for pilgrim. In english we only really use that word for the bird lol i was so confused

I would love to see a knight unit for that month^^

Let's hope for some hero characters, that are proper knights. But currently it looks like peasants for december and january.

Quality > quantity. Always.

Hopefully you will also do something else in this month than only grail pelgrims. The unit only represents a small part of the army. Imo, which is not the spirit of the army. I hope you will do something more than only 1 unit of pelgrims. Maybe a grail knight, who is a hermit who has sworn to protect a sacred chapel.

Command-option with 3 knights instead of pilgrims comes to mind as well. Or something like Battle Monks instead of peasants - you know Templars (the knight brothers not the sergeants or civic sergeants) were technically all monks and still knights.

This is brilliant. I really prefer quality over quantity so I hope for 1 unit of pilgrim but I wonder. Does this mean you make a chapel either way? And if the more developed unit (quality over quantity) is chosen, is it possible you would make a grail reliquae for them to carry, I would love a unit filler like the command table a few months back!

The reliquary and the chapel will be done anyway. But for example the reliquary alone can be the time equivalent of 5-7 sculptures. If we want to make 4-5 pilgrims for the unit, we get to 12. And that would give us more work than we put into a standard unit. But we also have several ideas for extra pilgrims, which can easily bring the count up to 18 sculpts. If we normally dedicate 8 to each unit, then the time of this one is easily doubled. We could cut down to the essentials, but it wouldn't be the same, hence the question.

Did grail pelgrims win the poll? Damn, I thought it was an ex aequo with keepers of the towers. So first month of Equitaine starts without knights or somekind of cavalry? In december we already have a month with human infantry. Maybe a bit to much to have it again in january.. Edit: imo, ofcourse. ;-). It just feel strange to start the ’knight’ army with that unit and than there will be atleast 3 months before the next release.

Yes, they won by a few votes. 3 or 4 if I remember correctly. It's the closest poll to date. Some knightly character we'll do for sure. It's not the option we would have chosen to start the range, but it's the one of the majority :) What we do see is an opportunity to make some miniatures that have never been made before. But to make it really cool we need 12-16 sculpts when we usually make 7-8 for a standard unit.

I am in no hurry. Make them magnificent!

And to be honest...at least for me it will take more time than a month to Finish painting them😁

John Madeja · November 16, 2022

Wow thats a really tough choice....I am going for a more developed unit. Do it right the first time and make it complete. It just means it'll take long to get the rest of the units but at least they will be done properly 😁

I second this. Quality over quantity.
