Evolution of Patreon
Hi Guys
We are thinking about changing the format of the Patreon from September. But we would like to know your opinion about it.
The Lizard range is practically finish and the amazon or atanaca type units don't seem to have any entity to continue in this way. Or they would need a faster development.
Although we don't like it, we think it would be wiser to move to a system of:
3 units and 2 characters per month of the same race
-2 units and 2 characters of the same race, plus a monster unit or a big monster, oriented to role players, or taken from the Mountruosus Acanum or other similar monsters.
This will allow us to develop ranges from 0 with a bit more speed, even if we can't give news to all of them.
What do you think about it, would you like some other kind of form?
I am waiting for your opinions and in a couple of days we will be able to send you the polls with your suggestions.

Hola Chicos

I think it is a great idea to stick with one race on a month-to-month basis.
So each month would be a single race, rather than the mix?
Buenas chicos. yo voy a dar mi opinion.
Whatever floats your boat, guys :)
May I suggest a hybrid of the current and proposed approaches: 2 units 1 character (or 1 unit 1 monster and 1 character) for one army, and for the others, 1 character each OR you could remaster some models in existing units in new poses. For example, on your website you sell "Patrols" consisting of 4 models. So you could release a "Patrol" of the elven dragon spearmen in attacking poses, as currently they are in relaxed poses. Another month you can have a patrol of elven sea guard reloading and aiming their bows. You could also have a patrol of Amazon warriors standing up instead of crouching. This way you can still release things for each faction each month, but still have time to focus on new armies
This is generally a good idea, to add "more" poses to existing units. For example I wouldn't mind having attacking poses of the Paymaster's guard or standing at the ready Lizardmen Temple Guard.
I like the current approach where every month there is something for each faction. I am mainly here for elves, with the other armies a nice bonus.
I think focusing on 2 armies and finishing them up faster is better, and switching from 3 units or 2 and a monster should be your call depending on what you want to release for the month.
to be honest I like it, since am not so much of a patient guy ^^;
That would probably drop my interest in the Patreon. I'm here now because I love your sculpts and I play Empire and High Elves. I like to add Vampires to my collection, but I consider Lizard and Chaos warriors just a nice add onn. If you go for single specific armies I'll probably drop my regular support since there is much more of a chance of getting a race I do not care about, and it would feel like a lot of wasted money for files I'd probably never use. But that's just me, the ultimate choice is yours to make!
The Amazons are what sealed the deal on my signing up, those shields are perfect. Also the Elves, and Humans. If you do run out of lizardmen things to do maybe releasing monsters each month, or a bunch more dinosaurs for players to use as stand ins (eg with stagadon howdah, or as "wild" dinosaurs).
I would be more in favour of concentrating on a single army at one time. But I am ok with the current format also.
I am slightly in favor of the 3/2 or 2/2+Monster of one race as the creative initiative strikes. I will remain with you as long as funds permit (no problems at this time) whether you continue on as is or take the considered change.
I think the plan is a great idea and you should move between the 3/2 and 2/2 + Monster for whatever best fits the theme of the month.
Either works for me to be honest I admit, the armies I play, units and characters would be better than monsters, but as I said, either works to be honest. Both are good business models going forward.
I think out of the choices given I would probably prefer 2 units, 2 hero types and a big monster sculpt. Would like to see Giants, Giant Spiders, War Mammoths. Also maybe some new races such as an alternative to orcs and goblins, skaven, dark elves, dwarfs and so on. I am liking the current releases my favourite was that huge release with all the calvary for the different factions, and one of my favourite lords was your alternative Slann model was amazing. One person already asked the question but I will ask it again for more exposure. Will we get a different faction every month? or will it be the same faction for a couple of months before switching?. The Aztec warriors were not my favourite and that was not your sculpting, I prefer Warhammer, lotr fantasy factions is all. Looking forward to what you decide, I think either way I will most probably be a patreon for life anyway lol.
I think the way the realise happen now is good, I was late to the party so missed a ton of stuff, but I don't have to buy whole armies, just units I missed which I like, you do some of the nicest warhammer fantasy style minis out there so I hope you keep up with that going forward 😀
I honestly like very much the variety you put in every release, whilst it may not be the best option for whoever wants to build an army rapidly it allows to get lots of interesting units, and make the releases much more various. This is a distinctive feature of your patreon and has been for quite some time now. I appreciate a lot this method, even though it can be considered a bit "slow" if one's main goal is to complete armies fastly. Maybe you could consider introducing a new release method once every X months, eventually whenever the units for a certain race/faction are becoming harder to keep up with due to the lack of units missing from the roster
Having lots of different factions at once has the bonus that you likely get a lot more people who are in for one faction - be they supporting you at the 1 faction tier or at the all. Reducing the number of factions you support at once "could" reduce the number of backers at any one time. However on the flipside seeing a faction grow much faster might well make more people into that faction join up. Because now instead of waiting 12 months for 12 model sets they only have to wait 6. Heck many patreons only do one or two armies at once - even big names like One Page Rules only do 2 factions at a time whilst Lost Kingdoms and many others only do 1 at a time. Personally I think there are merits in both approaches. The best thing is that you do what works best for you and the artists. In the end what sells is the skill and creativity of the artists.
I'd like to second this - the way you are doing it now offers a variety of unit types that will certainly have 1/2 units per month of interest. Having all one type may make the package riskier - it might be less interesting to people. If you need to make a change, maybe the 2 units, 2 heroes, and 1 monster option will give you the variety needed. It doesn't seem you will run out of human units any time soon with everything the Old World has to offer. Also worth thinking about is expanding on your terrain modeling efforts and having pieces featured more regularly in place of units if you need to fill in the schedule. Good luck and I can't wait to see what you dream up next.
I think you complicate yourself, just do what you want when you want.
I would much prefer a focus on one race at a time as proposed, atm it feels like getting a complete roster of anything is too long. The 2 unit, 2 char, 1xMonster format would be ideal.
2 units and 2 characters of the same race, plus a monster unit or a big monster, oriented to role players, or taken from the Mountruosus Acanum
If you switch to focusing on a single army per month, would you be continuing with this army in subsequent month until an entire army is completed, or jumping back and forth between a few races? Personally I can barely get one full unit painted in a month, so I like the current release style. But I guess getting armies finished quicker would allow you to start other factions sooner, which might attract new subscribers.
If you feel ita better for you guys to focus on one faction a month im cool with that. I alternate between the options you gave so every other month you do a monster/monster unit, kinda like one month is the core stuff and the other month the special/elite stuff
I am a painter and collector and play no tabletop anymore. While i am most likely not the targeted customer, i would still like to voice my opinion: i honestly don't care too much about the races, as long as there is some decent variety and sculpting quality is good. However, while you may consider that the amazons and atanacas don't lead anywhere, those where my most favorite sculpts - because they were different from what one gets elsewhere. there is plenty of the same old, same old around. (ofc quality differs) I once subscribed for the lion rider from the welcome pack. but i kept my subscription active because of sculpts like the amazons and atanacas. (i dont care about lizardmen and elves tbh ;) - and i am no fan of dwarves either - but i like interesting, dynamic and unique minis of any heritage)
amazon or atanaca type units are all I sub for
same, I have a whole army of lizzardmen and started to do another mirror army of it but with amazons. Good thing about lizzardmen and amazons are that they can share dinosaurs, salamanders and other type of scenery or stuff.
I personally would like the new proposed format
bro lizardmen still need the troglodon gor rok a kroq gar would be cool also maybe a different saurus with more armor and more hand weapon options and a nakai would be amazing.i agree with the new patreon changes
Id really love DnD Monsters
As a new patreon i would prefer the months to be of one race. I think with this system you would attract more new patreons because with your system now, as a to-be -patreon you feel like you already missed most units of an army and aren't that inclined to be a new patreon.
I would drop the amazons since i dont See them as a Wohle army. Since i am an Oldhammer Player i would Prefer to finish an army at Some Point so i Van actually Play with Them
Of these options I prefer the first. There are lots of monsters on my hard drive and very few ever got printed. But I agree with Joe that more variety in sculpts for lizardmen would be appreciated - all but two of the printed monsters were for this army. All the other armies are just collecting for now so doesn't matter if I get one for each every month or 5 units for each army every 5 months.
It's a shame you feel the lizardman range has to be finished. Different sculpts/poses for existing units, terrain, more hero/alpha units, creative takes on monsters, etc are all some ideas to keep it going. The amazons weren't, in my opinion, lizardman units. You are one of the few creators releasing consistent quality for lizardman and honestly if that line stops I imagine you'll have a lot of people going more month to month. As someone who backs almost exclusively for lizardman that news saddens me.
Agreed. I wasn't a big fan of the Amazons being part of the Lizardmen line. A lot of Total War: Warhammer fans want to see Amazons being added to the Lizardmen roster in the computer game but IMO that degrades the lizards in their uniqueness.
A mí me parece genial cualquier cosa.
As long as you're shaking things up, I'd like to see some work put into file management. You have the Last Sword website and you use is for KS distro, how about using it for Patreon as well? If quality of life improved because I didn't have to download each month, I'd stick around through light months.
Hi Brian We are working on it. The intention is to centralise everything. We spend a lot of time replacing lost or corrupted files. We are the first ones interested in that.
I'm mainly here for the human and elf units, so I particularly welcome the first way (3 units and 2 characters per month of the same race). Personally, this gives me the opportunity to support other artists from the sea of great minis, which is now almost inscrutable, when there is nothing for me here in a month. I would like to support all good sculptors, but unfortunately my resources are limited. As a result, I am very much in favour!
I like all of your Work. For me the current Way of Release is great. But if you need to change it I would prefer 2 Units and 1 Monster from Monstrous Arcanum. Anyway I will stay with you!
I would prefer the first option, as it would allow other armies to start beyond the ones already out, and I think it's time. I don't like the "big monster releases". Plenty of showoff models out there, but often they don't get printed or don't get painted and when they do they don't get fielded. Keep giving us beautiful rank and file, it's one of the things that make you unique
I am mostly here for your Elves and human cavalry. If i.e elves would only have one release each 3 months. I would probably not back this patreon each month like I do now. I really like what you are doing with your Elves, Imo, more city states, flavour regiments and etc would be fantastic. Also more wood / Dark elves would also be fantastic. Your empiresque line is als very nice. Your knightly orders are fantastic. I would love to see a Bretonnian range. Your lizardmen range is also great, it's a shame that it is in your opinion almost finished. I am a slaves to darkness player with Age of Sigmar and your range of chaos miniatures don't do it for me. I prefer here the newer GW mini's. For me as a customer I prefer it like it is now instead focusing on one range each month. With that system I would probably unsubscribe until there is a month I like, while now I just keep my subscribtion on, as each month has something I like. Edit: In short keep it as it is now and use kickstarter to introduce new armies (stl files) like you did with the Wood Elves and than you can expand those races with a character, unit or monster once in a while through patreon, but please don't stop releasing our monthly dose of elves :-D
Both sound good. Something else you could always do is one or two months out of the year do something where instead of releasing something new, subscribers would get a voucher to use towards a previous release. I know I have missed a few and would love that. This way you free up extra time to work on things.
I think that's a good idea.
I really like the format you currently have going on. I am slowly building up multiple armies I will be printing one day. Might seem like a stretch but I will probably get a small army of all original fantasy wh armies.
This is how a lot work, and I specifically like you guys for not working this way. I’d probably be inclined to pick up and drop off on different months
In my case I am fine with it, many patreons work this way.
I would definitely miss my monthly elves, and may not support every month as I am a High Elf backer.
