馃└ Dulkemburg: Undead Wolves + August Preview: Heavy Cossacks (The Bannerman)

Hi everyone!

Today, we bring you a fresh look at the Dulkemburg campaign focusing on its swift undead beasts, alongside an exclusive preview of what we are cooking up for August's Bannerman tier.

1. Dulkemburg: The Undead Wolves

The Undead Wolves are one of the most dynamic support units in the campaign. Lore-wise, these are beasts corrupted by blood magic and the magical shards scattered across the city's ruins.

Design-wise, to create these Undead Wolves we started from the base of the wolves we designed for the Avernia cavalry. As we mentioned before, many of the miniatures in this campaign originally started as personal conversions for our own gaming table, and it is fascinating to see how much miniatures change and evolve when they are properly reworked and treated with the care they deserve.

Campaign Reminder: The campaign is still live on The Armory in its Early Bird phase. Don't forget that as Patrons, you have the Double Benefit: the campaign's 50% discount stacked with your active monthly Patreon discount code.

2. The Bannerman (August): Heavy Cossacks in Progress

For August's Bannerman tier, we are working on heavy Cossack infantry.

To gain visual richness and variety compared to our Winged Hussars, we are doing something very interesting with this range: mixing Ottoman, Russian, and Polish historical elements in equal parts.

Here is a first WIP render of a heavy Cossack infantryman we are currently preparing. We are still polishing details and options, but the artistic direction is set!

馃挰 Let us know your thoughts!

  • What do you think of the Undead Wolves' design and seeing how they evolved from their Avernia roots?

  • What are your thoughts on mixing Ottoman, Russian, and Polish influences to give the Cossacks a unique flavor compared to the Winged Hussars?

We look forward to reading your comments below!

Also would love to see a cloak on them. https://whfb.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/d/d0/Kreml_Guard_M01.png

That is definitely an option for when we work on the Tsar鈥檚 Guard. A cloak could fit them very well, especially if we push them toward a more elite and ceremonial look. Would you like to see them with halberds, closer to a paymaster-style guard, or would you prefer another kind of weapon for them?

Love the wolves. Probably more interested in horse archers than heavy cossacks but i'd maybe just go with the simple option rather than get too experimental and end up with a random mish mash of a design. One of the things I always loved about the original kislev models were they were typical perry, grounded, basically historical designs. I'd like to see that carried over. Horse archers, cossacks with bows, hand weapons or spears with the classical Ukrainian look and heavy kreml guards more Kievan Rus. But that's just me.

That鈥檚 a fair point, and we did think about that direction too. For us, though, the Kievan Rus influence felt a little too early historically and aesthetically for this particular range. The armour didn鈥檛 sit as naturally next to the Winged Lancers, which are the main visual anchor we wanted to build around. Funny enough, from a sculpting point of view that would actually have been one of the easier routes for us. We already have a lot of Norman parts in production, and with some of our Viking material it would be quite straightforward to move toward a Rus look. We even have Rus Vikings planned for December. In the end, we just felt it wasn鈥檛 the best fit for this wave. We鈥檇 rather keep the range coherent for now, and save those other influences for places where they can really shine.
