Hello 😊 I uploaded the Pilot episode of This is Us last week as an experiment to see how it went. I was so happy with all the positive comments, most people seemed really excited to watch it together!
I'm still waiting and seeing how it goes on YouTube, as that's what I need to take into account. It needs to be worth the 4 or so hours I spend editing down an episode for youtube. At this stage, it's not looking good.
Youtube have recently changed the way the views are counted. So far, the first episode has 2k views which is great, but when I click into the metrics it tells me only 462 people stayed to watch past the first frame. I really dislike the whole process of deciding if something is "popular" or not, but the reality is it takes me so long to edit these episodes. If I didn't have to do that, then it wouldn't be an issue.
Which made me think... What if I didn't edit them? What if we just watch it here, and I upload the full episodes? We can still watch it together (as I do want to keep watching) and I don't have to keep going with editing a series for youtube that is underperforming.
I usually upload the full episodes with no audio as that's what most people wanted a while back. I thought I could upload the full episodes with audio, still with a logo across the footage for copyright purposes, and that way it would be much easier for you to watch.
I also dislike having videos that people on youtube can't watch, so that's another issue. So I don't know what to do about that, but I genuinely like the show and I'd keep watching in my own time anyway. So if I remove the editing process (which is the biggest hurdle) we may as well watch it together!)
Please share with me your thoughts and suggestions. Does this work for you? Would you be happy with the full episodes, with audio? Or should we just skip it all together?

I always watch the full episode reactions anyway so I'd be up for you doing that if you so wished. Having the episode audio coming from your side would mean I'd need to get my copy perfectly synced up so that the audio and video of the episode match up properly (so when characters talk their voice perfectly matches up with their mouths) but that shouldn't be a problem. I'd love to know how YouTube actually measures views. How does the video have 2k views when less than a quarter of that number somehow didn't watch past the first frame? It doesn't make any sense! My god do we need a real, viable alternative to YouTube!
Until recently, I only watched the YouTube edits as my internet speed was not fast enough to stream two things at the same time and also let the rest of family do what they wanted to do. I live in a little village, no chance of getting anything faster for the forseeable future. But, a government scheme to help those like us, that live off of the beaten track has provided us with another broadband service, totally free of charge for a year. So, with two sources of internet to share amongst us, I am here for the full episodes now.
Honestly, the series is fantastic enough to warrant your watching it however you can. 🙂 That said, it sounds like YouTube wouldn't be worth the effort, so I'd say having your reactions here would probably be the better idea. 🏳️🌈🖖💚💜
