Doctor Who 12x04 Edited

We have been spoiled with all of our historical episodes lately! It's been so fun to go back in time and experience a bit of the past, even if some bits were made up (just a little!)

A fun episode, and I was really impressed by the CGI/special effects/costumes in this one. Very nice!

  • A little update! We will have another episode of This is Us out this weekend, and then until Ted is finished, there will be 2 x Doctor Who episodes a week. The This is Us episodes will likely not have a proper schedule, just whenever it is ready. After Ted is finished, we will probably go back to 1 x Doctor Who a week and then.... I think I'd like to try movies for a while. So likely just movies and Doctor Who (and music) until I change things up again 馃槄 I'll make a post soon asking for movie recommendations but I've watched two so far that will be coming up after Ted and they are The Blind Side and Field of Dreams.

Skithra resembling Raknos is not accidental too! As species who steal instead of inventing, they look like the borrowed someone else's faces too

Goggled 13 is always so fun to see! 13 and Tesla sharing the wonder of how it feels to create and invent! With such a connection between the Doctor and Tesla, it does pull them forward of the other characters. But, honestly, there are great bits from all the companions, I think. It's Yaz who helps Tesla keep his cool when they're teleported to the Skithra ship. The conversations between Ryan and Miss Skerritt are terrific character moments for each of them. And goofy Graham is fun here, too. His best bit is definitely when he hollers at Edison and Tesla and calls them AC/DC! but Graham has lots of other nice moments, too. And I love that Ryan, Yaz, and Graham are all in period costume again! I'm so glad you commented on the look of the episode. Starting with series 11, the special effects are done by a different company. I'm not sure I could name just what the difference is, but they sure look good! The gold light in the TARDIS shifting to blue with some pinks is beautiful. I like the way the Skithra are revealed in dark/blackness first by just these red points of light. The music is great in this one, too. I love hearing the TARDIS theme when they bring Skerritt into the TARDIS. The descending notes that sound harsh and a little dissonant makes for a nicely disturbing theme for the monster of the week. And it's a really nice majestic swell of music as Tesla declares "and the future is mine." But I also appreciate how the music lots of the time just supports the scene and doesn't call attention to itself.

Yeah, the episodes look absolutely gorgeous. I've been so impressed with it all. If you think back to the 9th Doctor (yes, a while ago compared to these) and even the Abzorbaloff, the special effects and creatures in these later episodes are just so well done! Graham is the BEST!

By all accounts Edison wasn't very nice and did take a lot of ideas and inventions, and Tesla remaining poor his whole life and never getting the recognition he deserved is quite sad, but often happens in history that people don't get their flowers until it's way too late. The irony now being that today you have Elon using the Tesla name to make a fortune and a lot like Edison, Elon also brought his companies and tech rather than inventing them himself. But yeah a really good episode this one, and the scorpion race are very cool! You said what I thought when I first saw it lol It's like they went well the racnoss was a good idea but done to a low budget and overacting lol So they had a second attempt and gave us a very cool enemy. Was fun seeing the Doctor in the lab! More episodes of the doctor being able to cook doing sciencey things please!

I wonder what Nikola would feel about the Tesla... 馃憖 This series has so far impressed more than the previous one. I still don't understand why people complained initially. Sure, some episodes don't quite hit the mark but I haven't been angry or disappointed. I love the characters. It looks great. It is exciting. I'm happy!! And yes, how cool is it to see the Doctor inventing and being all clever? She was born for moments like that!

I knew you'd enjoy this one with the historical figures, as I do as well. It was also fun seeing the companions in their period costume (which I always enjoy seeing) and Graham's line's towards Edison in particular. For ages I thought the Skithra felt a bit too tacked on for the sake of needing that sci-fi element as one of the weaker examples of integrating a sci-fi plot with a historical setting but watching again with you it's not actually that bad as there is a point to them. I'm not surprised you thought of the Racnoss as I don't think it's an unusual to see the resemblance. It's also interesting to have you compare these newer episodes to the earlier ones you've seen, and you're right that there probably has been a considerable improvement in the visuals. Even those early days of the revival were quite a leap from Classic Who, trust me. Oh and because of misreading episode lists (because of Spyfall being a two-parter but sometimes being combined together as one) I got a bit of a surprise because I was expecting it to be the next episode today. I guess I'll have to wait another week for that one ;)

I'm so glad they've been getting into costume! I wonder if they took on board suggestions and comments from viewers as I'm sure there was a lot of people that missed the fun costumes. Maybe the Doctor just forgot to show the fam the wardrobe 馃ぃ You had me panicking a bit in case I missed an episode! But yes, this one is next thank goodness. I often have a small panic in case I do something wrong 馃槄

The Blind Side is a really good movie. Unfortunately the controversy surrounding the family the movie is based on kinda ruins it for me. Still, I'll be watching that reaction for sure.

I had no idea about the controversy! What a movie to pick in that case... I hope it's not the only thing people comment about on yt 馃槶
