Arcane 1x01 Welcome to the Playground - Edited & Full
We're starting a new show!! This one is only 2 seasons and they aren't long and I really wanted to watch Arcane. I had a few recommendations to watch it, and I'm also wanting to get out of my comfort zone from now on with things I've never tried reacting to before and an animated series is one of them!
The art style is glorious, I love the dark storyline, and I can't wait to see where this goes. I hope you enjoy the journey!
✨✨ In case you missed reading this on last week's Doctor Who episode, I'm taking a small break from Doctor Who between the 12th and 13th Doctor. I am hoping that in between now and then it comes back to streaming, and also taking a break to begin with fresh eyes is probably going to be a really good idea. At this stage, I'm not sure when I'll return to Doctor Who. It might be after Arcane either season 1 or 2, it depends if people are enjoying Arcane then I'd like to continue as it's just 2 seasons. Or it could be after Dollhouse season 1 and I could have a break before continuing Dollhouse. There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of interest in Dollhouse here, but people seem to be enjoying it on YouTube. Either way, Doctor Who will be back soon!

I guess you missed that bit of dialogue but the scene in the beginning was not a slaughter, it was a battle initiated by the people of the undercity, lead by Vander, and the enforcers won. Vi and Powder's parents were simply among the many casualties. Not that that makes it any less tragic, but it does re-frame the situation a bit. As for the animation, this style is quite unique in that they combined 3D animated characters and the world with hand-drawn 2D effects and flourishes. That's what gives the show such an unusual look. The French animation studio, called Fortiche, is a bunch of incredibly talented and innovative artists. Almost every frame of this show looks like a painting.
You asked why the enforcers were wearing masks and the others weren’t. The air quality in the under city is really bad because of mismanagement of that area of the city. If you live there your lungs adjust. If you don’t, it’s hard to breathe down there.
Ahhh, right! I wonder if it's also a bit of scaremongering, too? I feel sorry for the people that live there and have no other choice 😔
I am so happy you are reacting to this show. Arcane was eye-opening for me. I have never seen this mix of beautiful animation, complex and captivating characters, intense and moving storytelling, and amazing original music. I could go on and will in future uploads, but there is a lot to dissect and experience for you ahead. I will say don't do too much research, because there are some turns along the way and you want to stay spoiler-free. Also you should know that the show released three episodes at a time and that is how the story is told, so every third episode is basically like the end of a chapter. On a personal note, I decided to watch this show with my kids last year (which is somewhat questionable parenting because it is not a kids show.) But they loved it and it was a fun few weeks of staying up, turning off the lights and watching it together. My daughter happens to be a figure skater and was particularly invested. This weekend, we are heading to Atlanta for a figure skating competition. The song she chose for her program was "Playground," which is the song that was playing when Vi walks through the undercity in this episode.

Like yourself I also know nothing about League of Legends, so it's good that it's not necessary otherwise I'd be completely lost. As for this opening episode I enjoyed it. There looks to be some good characters, what we've seen of the world so far seems interesting and I really like the animation style. Bring on episode 2! The animation is lovely isn't it!! It's my first animated show to react to and I now want to try some animated movies as well. I don't know a thing about League of Legends 🤣 but I love that you really don't have to. I've watched a few Arcane episodes now and I honestly don't feel that I've missed out on anything super important. Thank you for giving this a try, Neil! I would prefer to continue on with both but I've had so many comments wanting more Doctor Who that I am now wondering what to do 😅 I intended to react to Doctor Who again after both Arcane seasons, but I don't know if that's too long a break. With all the negative comments I've had about the 13th Doctor and onwards, I assumed that most people wouldn't want it. So I'm a little confused now about my scheduling 🥹
Looking forward to this, such an incredible show. Just get the tissues ready….
