Doctor Who 11x0 Twice Upon a Time Edited

This truly feels like a bonus. Like something we weren't meant to have, but the Doctor said NO to the last episode and then this was born. And I am so grateful. I won't spoil here in case some people haven't seen it. But it was beautiful and wonderful and I feel lucky to have seen this episode. There have been so many incredible performances by Peter during his time as the Doctor, so many speeches that have been perfectly delivered and meant so much to us all. He's given us so many important messages, but the one that always stays with me is...

Be Kind.

✨ A little Doctor Who update: as a lot of you know, Doctor Who has been removed from streaming services. I've been buying the episodes in seasons from YouTube directly, but some of the special episodes have been really hard to find. I'm going to take a small break from Doctor Who, most likely until a streaming service picks it back up again so I have it all in the once place, easily. I'm honestly not sure how long this break will be, or even if I'll get itchy feet and go back into it pretty soon 😅 Another alternative could be to buy the DVDs, if it's cheaper than buying from YouTube and if they match what you guys have as well. That's always a huge issue as there's so many versions!! I am going to fill the void with Arcane, which was also recommended by a few people here, and we'll see what happens after that.

I've had a lot of comments about Doctor Who saying that after Peter isn't as "good" but that is a very subjective term. I have often enjoyed episodes that other people don't like as much, like Love & Monsters, so believe me when I say I take the "Doctor Who turns bad, don't watch it" with a grain of salt. My biggest worry is that I will take the time to do the reactions and editing and people just don't watch it. If there's little interest in something, it's in my best interest to move on to something else. I'm hoping this isn't the case with Doctor Who as it's something I've enjoyed watching for so long now. So... Honestly, I'd love your opinions! I'm still taking a small break regardless but I do want to know your thoughts on what I should do, especially thinking about it from my position 💜 Thank you!!

I'm 78 from USA, I keep coming back to see if you started up watching Dr Who again! I've really enjoyed watching it through your eyes and reactions. I watched it when it originally came out in 2005, with my husband and our daughter. He passed 3 yrs ago. We roped my daughter's fiance into watching it, lol (who enjoys it alot), before my husband passed. Every time there was a change in the doctor and it didn't matter which one people some people complaining. I also follow another Pateron member to watch Dr Who they just finished, Jodie Whittaker seasons as the doctor and couldn't understand why people complained so much (the Doctor has no specific gender, there's been hints to EVERYTHING throughout the doctor's history. A Whovian is loyal to the Doctors ❤️

This is one of my favorite episodes ever. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I know moving forward after any regeneration is daunting sometimes even difficult as we grieve the doctor/companions we really enjoyed and loved. But Jodie is a great Doctor. I do hope you continue after your break and we see more of your Doctor Who reactions. I've loved all of them.

Hey! Thank you for this amazing journey! I’ve been watching Doctor Who since I was a little kid, and watching the episodes again along with you truly felt like experiencing them for the first time all over again. <3 I don’t know why the First Doctor was written as sexist in this episode. He didn’t speak like that before. He even traveled with his granddaughter, who was a Time Lady. It felt less like an accurate portrayal and more like a modern exaggeration for comedic effect. The Captain in this episode is portrayed by Mark Gatiss you might remember him as Lazarus from Season 3 who has also written, I believe, around nine of the episodes you’ve watched. For me, this episode works as a satisfying finale for Doctor Who. I did watch everything that came after it, and I remember how excited I was for Jodie Whittaker as the new Doctor. However, I can’t really say I enjoyed much of that era, and I personally don’t consider it canon. If you’re curious, I’d suggest watching Season 11 and the 60th anniversary specials. I’m not sure whether I’ll follow your reactions to that era on Patreon maybe just the specials. I’m also slightly worried that you might not feel comfortable saying if you didn’t enjoy it, because some people might react negatively if you criticize a more “progressive” era of Doctor Who. I think people who enjoyed your reactions to Doctor Who would also enjoy Sherlock (2010), created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, who was the writer of this episode and the showrunner of Doctor Who since Season 5.

Juliette | Gaming & Reaction · March 2, 2026

Oh how interesting about Sherlock! I've heard great things, but I didn't know who was behind it. I'll have to look into it more, thank you for the recommendations! I think for me that I always find something to like about a show, so I doubt I'd be overly critical of the 13th Doctor. I just think it would be good to have a small break and come back with fresh eyes and not be influenced by what I just saw with Peter 💜

OdoKosh · February 26, 2026

As a fan going back to the 30th anniversary in 1993 in the Wilderness year I would say that there is some fantastic stuff in Jodie's era and beyond. All era's of the show from Hartnell onwards have their hits and misses. I really do think you would be missing out if you did not give it a try at some point down the line.

Oliver · February 26, 2026

There's so much to love about this episode, so I comment on only one aspect, knowing there are so many even more important. Clara's theme (which I originally thought to be rather simple and not one of the best of Murray's work) moves me so much here, in a very good way. Now imagine having re-watched this episode and shortly after that see a reactor watching "Asylum of the Daleks" with Oswin's first appearance accompanied by this theme and knowing what lies ahead for them. Ah. Yes, that's beautiful.

J
Jonathan Giles · February 26, 2026

Such a beautiful episode. The whole Capaldi run is so good. Should've won alot more awards lol. 9.9 out of 10 for me. Only thing missing was Jenny, Vastra and Strax saying goodbye at the end lol. (Yes im bias because they are my favourite side characters 😂). Loved the reaction and can't wait for the next season after the break.

I enjoyed Capaldi quite a lot as the Doctor and I thought this was a good episode to see him off. Though for me personally peak Who will always be Eleven, Amy, Rory and River. Like yourself I've also heard that the show goes downhill from here on out but if/when you decide to continue I'll be watching along and making up my own mind on the matter, as one should. I've not seen Arcane (nor know anything about it really) but I've always heard good things so I'm excited to start watching alongside your lovely self. Thanks for all the awesome reactions Juliette and I hope you have a nice day/evening.

Juliette | Gaming & Reaction · March 2, 2026

I think a lot of people are wanting me to still continue with Doctor Who but after a little break. I adored Peter Capaldi, and it would be good to have some time away and hop back in with fresh eyes and slightly faded memories haha Thank you, Neil 💜 I always worry about letting people down but I'll be back to it momentarily! It would be nice to have a change anyway and something different for a little while 🥹

J
Jason · February 26, 2026

If you were wondering why there were a lot of old music cues like "Vale" from S4 and cues from 2005, this was not only goodbye to Peter Capaldi, Perl, Matt & the big boss Steven Moffat but this was also goodbye to the incredible composer Murray Gold. His work since 2005 had been absolutely incredible throughout (and had created some iconic themes) but he chose this to be his final episode, so he sprinkled in some of his past soundtracks. Be prepared for a brand new composer in Segun Akinola for S11 & a fresh new sound. New, new, new, new, new is coming!! "Is anyone else excited, because I'm very excited" 😉

J
Jason · February 26, 2026

I adored Peter & was extremely sad to see him go but I'm seriously disappointed to hear you will be taking a break from DW and worried about views going forward and others saying DW gets very poor from now. Doctor Who has always been about change despite the irony that most fans hate change. There is a lot to love within the 13th Doctor's era, not everyone liked it & that's true but the show has only continued due to change. The change you will see is huge, the show is made with a brand new boss who has big bold ideas (think S5 change but bigger) & a different take (No Xmas specials but festive specials broadcast on New Years Day but not always centered on New Year and 10 ep seasons of 50min eps) for how his Doctor Who would be all starting with our first female Doctor. I'll be here for it and I hope many others are too. Enjoy your break, thanks for all you've done & hope to see you again soon watching Who.

Juliette | Gaming & Reaction · February 26, 2026

Thank you, Jason! That is exactly why I said I take those negative comments with a grain of salt and I will be making up my own mind and seeing for myself ☺️ After all, we all like different things! A small break will be great to go into this new chapter with fresh eyes!

13 is my Doctor, and I've been so anticipating you getting to meet her! It's so tiring to always be faced with people who call themselves fans and yet dump on anyone who likes what they don't. You seem to be very open-hearted--which is why your reactions are so enjoyable to be part of!--so I expect that you would find all kinds of things to like in what comes next. There is so much amazing stuff in 13's run! Don't let the naysayers turn you away. I don't know what sort of availability you face in Australia. I'm a little obsessed, so I own all Doctors 9 through 13 on both blu-ray and digitally via the Apple TV store. You may also be able to buy seasons/series on Amazon Prime. The digital versions from Apple or from Amazon run $10 US dollars for each season/series, which feels pretty reasonable to me. There are also digital "box sets" -- All of 13's run plus extras for $20 US. In the US and Canada, you can also stream Doctor Who via Hoopla which works with the public libraries. So if you have a library card, you can watch 21st century Doctor Who for free! When I started watching DW, I did so by getting DVD's from the local library, so maybe that's an option for you, too? The problem with the blu-rays and DVD's is that the cover art can be terribly spoiler-y! Anyway -- I hope you keep on watching Doctor Who!

J
Juliette | Gaming & Reaction · February 26, 2026

Ahhh Joe, I love how many different versions you have 😅 I'll be honest with you, I'd not even thought of my local library to get the DVDs! That is a great idea! Amazon Prime doesn't work for me as they aren't available to buy in my region. I tried to buy some of Peter's specials that way, but they like to make life difficult 😅

OverWims · February 26, 2026

The 1st Doctor and the 12th Doctor were both the first in their regeneration cycles. 11 was gifted a new cycle and so 12 was the new "1st" Doctor. It's a nice little similarity between the 2

This is my 2nd favorite Christmas special because it is simultaneously the most and least Christmassy special. Least, in that it barely has any sort of holly jolly elements to it, and most, in that it contains the single most powerful Christmas moment: the Christmas Armistice, which is a real thing that actually happened, pausing the fighting for a day or two during one of the bloodiest wars the world had ever known. Truly a powerful moment. Also, "always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind" are words to live by <3

so glad you loved this finale as much as i did! i’m curious-what are your overall thoughts on the 12th doctor’s arc? such a huge difference from deep breath to twice upon on a time peter kicked off his tour last night and i’m going to see him next thursday, so excited and im bringing my copy of local hero for him to sign. i’ve seen some videos and he is one heck of an energetic frontman 👀👀👀

I really don't like naming favourite Doctors as I love them all, but I enjoyed Peter's arc so much that I really do think he's my favourite. Which is CRAZY as David and Matt were so good!! What I love about him, is that he is such a wise and wonderful soul. AHHH I hope you have the best time next week!! Please let us know how it goes!

Martin · February 25, 2026

So point about the episode then a point about the next era...bear with me... Said it before and will say it again, Peter was made for this role, perfect for it. From what I understand the last episode was supposed to be the final ones but they were unsure on starting a new era on a Christmas episode so they added this one, and I'm so happy they did, I LOVE this episode, it's funny, it's gut wrenchingly sad and everything in between, the last 15 minutes or so when they return to the battlefield until the regen at some point I will cry, every time, even though this is like my 20th watch, I still cried a bit just now with you, seeing Capaldi go will always get me... I don't want to let him go.... :( If you haven't already get the music from his era on your devices, it gets regular play on my spotify... Regarding the next era please stick with it, this was the start of the #NotMyDoctor era where people hated on it just because a woman was cast, and I've seen people hate on it even though they've watched like two episodes... As someone who watched classic Who when I was a child, to all the new Who all the way through, there is PLENTY to like in the upcoming era's, they'll be hits and misses to you I'm sure, like you say it's all subjective but there really is so much good stuff still to come, I really hope you stick with it, to me personally, I genuinely think that the positives and good episodes will outweigh the negatives :) But for now, 12, I let you go... (cries himself to sleep...again!)

Juliette | Gaming & Reaction · February 26, 2026

For this to be the Doctors send off episode and not the last one was the best decision. This felt like a huge celebration of the Doctor. The last episode was so good, but there was a lot happening. This episode was just so wonderful and what the Doctor deserved 💜 Yeah, like I said I take the negative comments with a grain of salt as there's always something to like! It will be good to have a break though, and start with fresh eyes for the 13th Doctor!

I love this episode. Capaldi was meant to regenerate in the previous story but Chibnall didn't want to start off with a Christmas special so Moffett added on this story which I think is a nice little coda for this Doctor. Really hope you continue on. 13 is one of my favourite Doctors. There is only one story of hers I'll never re-watch and that's only because it scare the hell out of me. And there is so many great bits to see reactors react to.

Jason · February 25, 2026

Well farewell! Your break coincides with my plan to leave, which is lucky for me at least. I was only here for the Who and thankyou for sharing your journey discovering the show I have loved since I was 3 years old. Its been a blast seeing your reactions to it and hearing your thoughts. But sadly for me this is where NuWho ends, in my headcannon this episode ended with the Doctor returning to the TARDIS and ending on the cliffhanger of what his choice was. And its not because the Doctor became a woman, Ive been arguing for that since it was publicly aired as an option in the 1980's. Its because in my opinion it all falls off a cliff from here on in, the performances, the characterisations, the character development (or lack of) the stories and ideas, the writing in general, but not only that the directing the editing, all fall off the cliff with it, leaving a shell of its former self. Only the quality of the cameras and sfx improve. And thats not nearly enough to warrant rewatching whats to come, once was enough for me. I know there are those who somehow enjoy whats to come, I'll never see eye to eye with that, but rather than stay to complain every single episode about everything thats wrong I'll do as my mother taught me to do in such situations, "if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all." So I will depart, for now, but should you find yourself in the future taking your first steps on the long but fun road of classic Who I, like the Doctor, will return to your Patreon to offer some support.

Capaldi will always be my Doctor and this was such a lovely episode for him to bow out on, I still miss his Doctor but it was nice to see Rusty again along with Clara too. Looking forward to seeing your reactions for 13 as look forward to these every week!

J
Jason · February 26, 2026

Seeing Rusty again is funny because originally Rusty died in Into The Dalek by blowing himself up but that was cut from the episode. At the climax of the episode Rusty is asked by Clara what's next to which he replies "I must go with them" When Peter says to Rusty "Of cause you must. You have unfinished work haven't you" 12 has worked out Rusty's plan (to infiltrate the Dalekship and kill himself and every Dalek on board) to which Rusty says "Victory is yours but this does not please you“ which leads to the infamous" You're a good Dalek" & that sassy side eye. Then Rusty teleports to the Dalekship and self-distructs screaming "DEATH TO THE DALEKS!!" It's believed this was cut because Rusty looked a little too close to being a suicide bomber but knowing this introduces some vital context to that scene with Peter in the climax to Into The Dalek IMHO

(This is a response to the "✨ A little Doctor Who update" from the post, not the reaction itself) Taking a break in between Doctor's can be a really helpful thing. I had to take a long break after Smith to be ready for Capaldi, I was still mourning the loss of the 11 and just needed some time. I'm glad you are keeping an open mind about what is to come. Not every era of the show lands for every fan. I have to be honest and say that I'm not likely to watch reactions, cause we're getting to stuff that didn't land for me. I don't hate it the way some very vocal people do, but I don't love it enough to revisit endlessly (like I do with what you've already watched).

The next best thing to experiencing Doctor Who yourself…is watching someone else experience it for the first time. It’s the closest thing we can get to experiencing that magic all over again. Thank you so much for taking us all on this journey with you Juliette. You’ve been my absolute favorite reactor. This is a good time to take a break and process everything Doctor Who was up to this point, because I will agree with some others that there is a certain special “feeling” of the era of New Who up to the 12th Doctor. However I do think you should jump back in, because there are some things that come (eventually) that I’m positive you would absolutely want to see!

Beautiful episode ❤️ I’ve loved seeing you grow to love and understand Doctor Who over time. I love that you’ve gone in with your own mind and heart and without any baggage about the show. If I can make a suggestion, there’s a drama called “An Adventure In Time And Space” which is one single episode, and is the true story about how Doctor Who was first created, the story of the first writer and producer and how they believed in the show and the Doctor. It’s a special lil one off story but I think you’d like it. If someone can help you find the 2013 version that would be great! Also, if you carried on with the next Doctor right now I would be more than happy with that and I’d be along for the ride ✨

Alice Summers · February 25, 2026

That really was an incredible end to Twelve's run. Capaldi hasn't returned to the role yet like Tennant did for the 50th (though hopefully he will as his career winds down) claiming it was because he left on such a high note that he wouldn't want to spoil and I agree that his last 3 episodes were an amazing way for him to sign off. You already mentioned near the end of his first season that you loved his character development and how he was softening up and I think that big hug he had with Bill and Nardole at the end as one of his final acts was such a lovely way to show how much he'd changed over all that time. The main criticism of the episode was that while Doctor Who had it's issues when it came to attitudes towards race and gender in its early years, The First Doctor was nowhere near that overtly sexist so it felt unfaithful to the character for the sake of trying to show how much we've moved on since then. The recreations of his companions was poor as well. Still, since so much about the Doctor and his character wasn't really established until after his time (the Second Doctor being the one to really establish a lot of familiar aspects) it was fun to see One's reaction to what was in store for him. David Bradley was also brilliant and it was lovely to see them use old footage with Hartnell before shifting into him, and doing the reverse later on for the regeneration. A lot of fans guessed that the Captain would be related to the Brigadier in some way, being his grandfather (WW1 was decades too early to be the Brig). He was a wonderful character in his own way, understandably being confused at what was going on as well as the tragedy of his situation, especially when he realises what it means when the Doctor refers to World War One. It was also a nice way to add to the family legacy with the Brigadier in Classic Who and Kate in the revival, and when Jemma Redgrave dies or retires maybe we'll get another generation working with the Doctor. These past few reactions have been everything I hoped they'd be, as these episodes have a special place in my heart as favourites to revisit at least in part over again. Even in this one there was so much for you to laugh about, find sweet and heartwarming, get excited over and find really sad. While come critics didn't like that there wasn't a real threat to face, I'm glad that they gave us a story like this that instead preferred to focus on stuff that was much more positive and uplifting. I'm glad you'll be taking a bit of a break though my Wednesday evenings won't quite be the same for a bit (though there'll still be Ted Lasso). I'll gladly continue to watch when you resume and no doubt a lot of others on here will to as those being vocal about how terrible the show got afterwards are just a small minority (albeit a vocal one). A lot of them just couldn't accept a female Doctor as that was controversial at the time. There's a lot about Thirteen that I know you'll love, if you can understand her accent (which as a Brit I should warn you is insanely strong) ;)
