Doctor Who 10x0 The Return of Doctor Mysterio Edited
Now this is a really cool Christmas episode! Grant was an interesting character and I loved the premise of it. It kinda makes me want a full episode that's animated! I hope you enjoy this one and I think it's the first time in a while that we've watched a Christmas special that's sort of near Christmas 馃構

I feel strongly related to the doctor through how he reacts to the torture of Mr.Huffle
I love nardoles speech so much, its a perfect description of the doctor
This one, for Brits of a certain age is perhaps more Christmas themed than it might seem to anyone not of a certain age or British. You see back in the day of my youth (and Moffats for that matter) the UK only had 3 tv channels, BBC1 and 2 and an umbrella channel of independents ITV, and there was no home video yet, so once a film had been round the cinema the only way you ever saw it again was if it was broadcast on television. And big blockbusters were held over by the 2 networks for big holiday occasions, such as Christmas. And with some films you only ever saw them at Christmas time never any other time of the year, usually the biggest and most popular. One such blockbuster of its day was the Christopher Reeves Superman film, which would turn up every year throughout my childhood at xmas time (Wizard of OZ was for some reason another such film that only got shown around xmas). So for those of us of a certain age such as myself or indeed Moffat, Superman, despite being in no shape or form a xmas film has an odd mental association with xmas time, and I suspect that is why it seemed to him particularly appropriate for a xmas special and why it pays tribute so much to those Christopher Reeves versions of Superman so lovingly.
It's always a fun premise when The Doctor isn't the superhero of the show, thinking of the Robin Hood episode as well, so you have that one and this one with essentially Superman and he plays the almost the side kick role in the episodes so it's interesting watching him navigate not being the main character. But yeah a fun episode and one Capaldi really gets to flex his comedy and humour in which is always a good time as well. And then we all got sad about River :( But also the Doctor! He basically brought Nardole back because he thought he's be too lonely otherwise, which is actually quite sad when you think that he does that :(
Naww well, I'm so glad the Doctor did bring Nardole back. He's awesome!
I love how much fun you had with this one. Your joy was infectious and has given me a really positive start to the day. 馃榾
And now you just gave ME the biggest smile! I wonder if we can keep this positivity going. Goodness knows, the whole world needs brighter days 馃グ
such a fun episode!! the comedy really worked for me in this one, the Ghost's dry delivery of his lines always gets me, and I'm a sucker for a new york story. "be happy, I'll take care of the rest" such a doctor quote. such a burden to carry. goodness. gotta admit i felt like a victorian man seeing an ankle at the sight of one singular button undone at the end there. i'm also curious of your final thoughts on series 9? I think you are going to LOVE series 10! so much greatness and wonderful moments ahead.
I really loved it, too! It was your typical superhero story but it was so fun! I almost got through a christmas episode with no tears though... almost 馃槄 I am in love with Peter's Doctor. I've loved them all, but there's just something about HIM that is so special. I love that he's older. It makes so much sense. I've read that viewers didn't like that he was "old" and they turned out, but goodness, they've missed out. I loved series 9 and I think I enjoyed it more than the last. Lovely emotional moments, great stories and the Doctor is slightly less grumpy 馃構
Fun fact: Did you know Doctor Who is known as Doctor Mysterio in Mexico!! I know Peter Capaldi absolutely loves the name as he stated it in a fabulous official Documentary called Doctor Who: Earth Conquest - The World Tour when they visited Mexico promoting S8. It's still on Daily Motion and it's a fantastic watch for fans showcasing how loved worldwide DW is (This was also when Jenna Coleman changed her mind leaving during Last Christmas) Link to the docu - https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2eyoi5
WOW that is so cool! I did not know that about Doctor Mysterio 馃槄
Might be a problem my end I use bbc I player to watch the full reaction in the uk and my version was 30 seconds slower probably I player but a brilliant reaction
I'm sorry!! This one I think I either purchased on YouTube or Amazon. Since they've taken it off streaming, it's been hard to find. Thankfully, I think I've got my DVD player sorted now!
This is definitely a strange one, being the show's only real dabble with a Superhero story, and some clear homages to Superman in particular. It was interesting to see the Doctor try to play matchmaker and the awkward situations between Lucy and Grant. Also when you reacted to the last episode i hadn't realised or remembered that harmony shoal was the name of the organisation meeting with River to buy the jewel, as you pointed out. Given how much you liked Nardole in your last reaction no doubt you were delighted to see him again and rescued from the Hydroflax body, especially acting as a bit of a companion to the Doctor. So onwards to a new season and the start of a new adventure for the Doctor, and I'm eager to see you get started with it properly.
Nardole is a gem! I'm a sucker for a comedic character and he just works for me. His little quirks, and facial expressions are a delight. I really do love him and hope he doesn't die 馃憖 I enjoyed this episode! A typical superhero story, but it was fun and had some really lovely moments. Thank you, Alice 馃挏
